Take a cargo scanner spend an hour on a gate scanning basics t1 indie ships, and you'll be surprised the shit you will see hauled. You just got to be quick with an alt ready to scoop the loot, I put mine about 300k off gate and align him to the gate and have wrecks on overview and warp to the wreck.

I feel your pain. Go to na Amarr data center or even a Caldari. The 3 or 4 missions they offer is a easy way to get a standings boost.
