it's only the tiny tip of the iceberg in terms of the disruption to their operation – getting rid of half your project leads and software engineers is pretty serious – but the before/after comparison of their official comms is just hilarious. the update text for the pre-elon twitter is clearly copy-edited and obeys good comms strategy; the latest one looks like elon literally drafted it himself in his (iOS) notes app. lmfao. a $44 billion dollar company, folks.

Sadly we live in a world where you can just continue to fail over and over again and if it's public enough you can just blame others and take 0 blame yourself and all will be well.

he’s spent so much of his time since taking it over banning and blocking people. it’s actually kind of sad.

this is what happens when a bf2s mod or reddit bro gets infinite money.

all those years he employed (a very good) PR team to manicure his image as some god-brain engineer tony stark miracle worker, operating on a different plane to the rest of us.

turns out he’s an utterly humourless narcissist who has bullshitted his way through most things, relying on government subsidies and other people’s leverage.

twitter’s humour and hot takes were the whole fun. he’s talked a lot of big game about ‘the ultimate free speech platform’, and how he’s going to ‘synergize’ twitter as the public forum writ large, integrated with his other humanity-changing ventures. but all that’s means so far is letting far-right racists and musk soyboys alienate twitter’s advertisers (lmao) and now interfering in midterm elections.

in the entire social media era, even with the problematic influence of zuckerberg, twitter jack, etc, never once did a major tech CEO intervene or comment on politics so directly. musk has owned twitter for less than a week and he’s directly contradicting his high-falutin’ speech to plug the republicans. i wonder who is promising him the next load of fat govt subsidies for tesla or spacex?

just such an unpleasant man. he’s got about 26 kids who are being neglected for this social media meltdown too. guy should be counting his billions and enjoying his life with a beautiful wife and kids. instead he’s inflicting this on the world.

What's more, I suspect that if there were a Republican president right now that he'd still be plugging the GOP because "the 'left' is too extreme right now."

Further, is that really what political neutrality is? Making sure you upset everyone?

watching this platform die in real-time is one of the best things, content wise, to happen to it in months. all these reports from inside the burning building.

can i just remind everyone of the sequence of events. musk only ever turned his interest to acquiring twitter in the first place because he was so frequently piled-on and humiliated there.

he spent a period doing lots of drugs with his hipster girlfriend grimes and posting increasingly whacko 3am thoughts on twitter. this is before his erratic early-morning tweet activity starting shading towards retweeting far-right figures and endorsing distinctly whiffy people (the LSD -> conspiracy nut pipeline is more like a waterslide at busch gardens).

at the same time, he was engaging in pump-and-dump hijinks by utilising his very public twitter voice, in ways that attracted the attentions of the FTC on multiple occasions, and which stirred up his loyal following into frothy delights of collective nerdgasm. tweeting out meme-tier thoughts about meme-coins and then watching the adulation pour in. i can imagine the immense dopamine highs of this ... and the consequent crashes. by all insider gossip musk is pretty deep down the rabbithole of drug use, and, well, a twitter account with millions of followers must be one helluva drug.

well, after that chapter came to an end, grimes left him in a very public way for … chelsea manning (formerly known as bradley manning). the mother of two of musk’s kids left him for a trans left-wing twitter activist.

now he’s acquired a sinking ship for $44bn dollars out of a basically reactionary attempt to ‘get back’ at twitter.

at least all the ‘polymath CEO’ bullshit could he kept under wraps of NDAs and bullying lawsuits. all those suicidal tesla whistleblowers, etc. but how do you keep a lid on your public meltdown on a fucking social media site? LMAO. elon musk is enacting a live performance art take on the emperor’s new clothes.

In defense of bf2s mods, I certainly wouldn't buy twitter if I had that kind of money. 44 billion dollars? Start your own social media for a lot less.

I'm practically a saint now compared to the site's old-timey moderation. I just want to get along, and didn't even awm Jay for telling me I wanted to see the world burn for one more Christmas with my parents. Moderating bf2s in 2022 would be like cultivating a bottled fart. The last report was over a year ago anyway.

elon musk's personality type and behaviour reminds me more of a Flaming_Maniac sort of individual.

but, yes, there is something very essentially forum dweller/reddit submod about elon musk. a lot of his views and takes are clearly reactions to 'lurking' in certain circles and on certain platforms. it's how he develops his hunches and reacts to things. there is something very 'online' about musk that there isn't, about, say previous twitter CEO jack, who evidently took his billions and wanted to be as off-line as possible (to a cliché'd degree: moving to india to live in meditation resorts or whatever).

“In the last 24 hours, the world's richest man engaged with a white nationalist quote, made masturbation jokes, beefed with a former Twitter CEO (and his investor), and opined about the midterm elections. All on the social media platform he now owns!”

and we thought citizen kane was a period piece.

i literally love that he took it over saying it was going to become a beacon of free speech (read:  he wanted to unban his trumper and russian bot friends who were helping his businesses financially through back-door political dealings), and in fact he has spent a huge chunk of his own personal time in the first week banning people for making jokes.

very typical paradigmatic example of right-wing/tech-libertarian concept of 'free speech' here. he's tRigGeReD.

This ties in very neatly with the stereotype of people who complain about liberal snowflakes, being giga-snowflakes themselves.

Oh God with the Russian bot bullshit. Seriously? If Trump was working with Russia, why didn't Russia invade Ukraine sooner?

the world doesn’t revolve around your beloved trump. there are multiple bot nets active on twitter pursuing multiple disinformation aims.

if you use twitter for more than a day then you very quickly realise that a lot of the replies and engagement with popular political figures are pretty much bots.

it’s a systemic issue that twitter themselves have been trying to find a fix for, for years.

sorry war man but it’s not all about your (now irrelevant) god daddy. trump is history already. nobody cares.

I am well aware of Russia unofficially fighting the war, I was referring to official.

"God Emperor" in reference to Warhammer 40k(which is likely in reference to the Roman Emperor)

I wouldn't necessarily say Trump is history, but don't care too much about him. Don't care for DeSantis either as something about him bothers me and can't put my finger on why.

Is the Russian bot presence really just a loopy conspiracy? Hasn't it been oft discussed in tech and social media sections of papers and magazines, left, right, and neutral? With information from the company? Even Business Insider had a bit a few years back talking about how Trump interacted with so many of them on the platform.

actual russian intelligence folks themselves have admitted on the record to running social media disinformation campaigns. it's part of their SOP. twitter bots, facebook adverts, fake accounts, etc. people acting like russian (or chinese) presence on the 'western' side of the web is a 'conspiracy' really need to get their heads checked. both govts literally have specialised units and resources devoted to this stuff.

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/uk-e … propaganda

The evidence shows the troll factory is using Telegram to actively recruit and co-ordinate new supporters who then target the social media profiles of Kremlin critics - spamming them with pro-Putin and pro-war comments. Targets include the senior UK ministers’ social media accounts, alongside other world leaders.

The operation has suspected links to Yevgeniy Prigozhin, the founder of the most infamous and wide-ranging bot-farm the Internet Research Agency, both of whom the UK has sanctioned.
this is from the UK's own intelligence agencies, who are not exactly part of the whole american media circus fray. are you going to accuse GCHQ and the british foreign office of being 'CNN watching libs', war man?

the above report namecheks prigozhin, who owns the biggest bot farm operation in russia. the guy himself isn't even denying what they're up to in interviews or statements. none of this is exactly belongs to a shadow realm of conspiracy and rumours. if the russians say they're doing it; if all the material evidence strongly implies they're doing it; then they're probably fucking doing it. you really need to get out of MAGA wonderland where up means down and black means white.
