The only thing that particularly annoyed about the debate is how Bush outright lied regarding Iraq. He said AQ was defeated when his brother was in Iraq and Obama pulled out prematurely.

ISIS and AQ in Syria was started by AQ in Iraq leaders and soldiers still in Iraq before the withdrawal. They never left.

And when we pulled out of Iraq, something the overwhelming majority of Americans supported, republicans bent over backwards to deny Obama the victory by pointing out that Bush signed the pullout agreement. Now they blame him for pulling out just because the Sunni tribes started another civil war.

I actually liked john kasich last night. First time I have ever heard of him. He seemed well put together and reasonable but I can't trust his political party.

Your loss. It's a great game.

Is it bad for me to start to like Trump? Not as president but as just someone to watch. His ego is so large you really should be in awe of its magnitude.

If a republican gets elected we can all just start preparing for ww3. What a joke that debate was. Feel the Bern.

Bernie is quite the interesting candidate. He's clearly reddits pick already, and it is nice to see someone have any amount of a fight against the medias foregone conclusion that Hillary will get the nomination. Still too goddamn many Republicans to even dsicuss anything, though. They gotta pare that shit down.

Bernie will never win because he doesn't have the backing of the established concentrated capital.  Until there is significant campaign finance reform, an outlier like Bernie will not become president.  That's just a sad fact of life.

Reddit is full of dumbos that probably don't vote/can't vote/won't vote.  I'll probably vote for Bernie this upcoming election though.  First time for everything.

Bernie is the democrat version of Ron Paul. That said, I would rather him than Cliton. Either way, I already promised myself to donate $100 to whatever democrat gets the party nomination. I don't have the time or energy to do much political activism beyond that.

He's much better than a democrat version of Ron Paul.  He's not racist, for one.

Same on both counts. Even more remarkable in my mind is that I'm mulling donating to his campaign.

I think its a slight fallacy that you need billions to win an election perpetuated by the media. Hes sure doing a great job at rallying voters..... Also can we lift the one post every 30 mins things. Really does a good job at not promoting discussion.

You don't need billions, but you do need backing of people with lots of money in order to organize fundraisers and vote drives.  He's done a good job of rallying PEOPLE.  It remains to be seen if this translates to actual votes.

I assisted an anti-hate campaign recently. Getting people to put effort into a political cause is really hard. Everyone is totally onboard until the day comes when people need to get together in person to put work in.

I guess it works like that with elections too. You can sign up as many volunteers as you want but only 10% will show up. But if you pay someone $50 to show up and go out to work for the campaign, they will. I am not just talking about holding signs. I mean grunt work like driving people to the polls or calling registered party members to remind them to go vote.

One of my good friends is firmly entrenched in democratic politics. I probably have mentioned him on here before.  He had to take a year off because he'd get so fully vested in campaigns.  I remember earlier this year he lost a campaign by a few votes (less than 100 IIRC) and he was at the bar getting shitfaced to forget about it.

He's pretty well connected and constantly gets shout-outs in the Politics section of the Sacramento Bee or whatever two-bit paper they have in that backwater dump of a town.  He likes to brag about those kinds of things.  He also is the biggest pot head I know.  His whole family is full of really successful and driven super stoners.

Ya the past has shown that to be true in the past, but maybe he could be the first to change that script. He did just get the backing of the nurses association and a large global enviromental agency

Republican presidential hopeful and Ohio Governor John Kasich says the United States should build five more aircraft carriers.

Speaking at a forum on national security in South Carolina on Monday, Governor Kasich argued that the United States should try to have around 15 aircraft carriers.

“We have about 10 carriers now, my goal would be to get closer to 15. And you’ve got to have the ability to project power when you get there,” Kasich said, the Columbus Dispatch and Politico reported.

Speaking to reporters after the forum, Kasich clarified his remarks by saying that the project to build five additional aircraft carriers would have to be done “over time. It’s not going to be done in a day. It has to all be done calmly and over time.”

The crux of the issue for Kasich, as is so often the case when it comes to the defense spending and the Navy in particular, is cost. The latest U.S. aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R. Ford, cost between $6 billion and $10 billion to build, according to the Columbus Dispatch (other estimates put the cost of the lead ship at upwards of $12 billion). Adding an additional five aircraft carriers to the ones America already intends to build would be an enormous burden on federal spending.

This is problematic for a candidate like Kasich, who is running in no small part on his ability to balance the federal budget. Repeatedly on the campaign trail Kasich has touted his experience as the chairman of the House Budget Committee, noting that he held this position the last time the U.S. government managed to successfully balance the budget. In an op-ed on CNN on Monday, Kasich sent so far as to declare “I support a constitutional amendment requiring a balanced federal budget.”

This guy sounded really reasonable in debate. (Not that I would vote republican anyway). But it is really silly to suggest we build 5 more carriers.

I mean it makes sense from a military perspective to be able to have 2 more carriers deployed in East Asia at any single moment. But that is crazy expensive. And unless Johnny K plans to raise taxes, there is no money to pay for this.
