heh, ranked shared 6th on blacktail now
was lucky I even got that one... just as I got close to the downed thing my internet dropped... it came back after a while and I got re-connected to server. Went over and registered it but when I left game it said I had lost a animal I shot.

Wasn't even hunting blacktail at the moment, was trying out the competition thingies, namely the best average of 4 feral hogs killed with the bow. Saw a blacktail buck wandering around and after a while I decided to finally check it out with binoculars, thought it looked quite big so took a shot at it

STATUS UPDATE    OCTOBER 20TH wrote:

Hi and welcome to this Status Update!

Lots of stuff to cover this time so let's get going...

Paysafecard

As announced earlier this week we've now added support in our store for Paysafecard. Paysafecard is basically pre-paid card, or rather a PIN-code, that you purchase in one of the thousands sales outlet available in 26 countries. Then you enter this PIN-code in theHunter store to purchase your membership or em$. Simple and easy, and great if you don't want to use a credit card.

If you feel we are missing an important payment method that you want to use, please let us know and we'll see what we can do.

Raptr

We now got Raptr support! Raptr is a game centric social network that let you see what your friends are playing and track their achivements. Feel free to visit theHunter page on Raptr.

You can even get a personal image signature:
https://raptr.com/badge/d0fdfb75c262ca555bad4b47a67d6350/fs.png

I'm stpe on Raptr, feel free to send me a friend request.

Pheasant Competitions

As promised the previous week, a range of pheasant competitions are now up and running. Designed by Lion with, of course, clever names as usual (what about Sidebyside Winder, Beac Havoc or Frequent Flyer?). As a bonus make sure to join 295 Slug Championship (Blacktail) or the Hog Competition Apocalypse Sow.

The first one is scheduled to start this Friday (until then the Pheasant tab under Competitions is blank).

New forum design

A little pet personal project of Lion has been developing a new forum design. It'll go live tomorrow Thursday and further information will follow then, so stay tuned...

Mooselicious
Our animator Dick just started working on animation of our upcoming moose and Lion managed to talk himself into a couple of work-in-progress screenshots. Visit Lion's blog over at IGN to get some more...

https://fast1.onesite.com/myoutdoorchannel.com/user/thehuntergame/64266af2e07d4edd14c4620d594d59db.jpg?v=198000

Do also make sure to visit our Facebook page to see the video of the poor moose getting throwed around when testing our ragdoll setup.

The reason Dick goes by the name Big D in the blog is to avoid their censorship filter. Seems he's on some kind of blacklist...

All licenses available for Guests

Starting next Monday all animal licenses will be available in Doc's store for purchase by guests. Purchasing a pheasant license will mean you for the first time get to set your foot on Logger's Point without a membership. The warden's recommendation is to also pick up a shotgun and some birdshot ammo at Doc's.

Server Optimization

Together with the license change on Monday we will roll out a number of changes on the server to improve performance. After the client update last week we saw a significant increase in players online, which we are very happy for, but the servers did take a hit.

To put it gently, we have some legacy stuff to deal with and we are well underway to replace the game server to get rid of it. Not only will it improve performance tremendeously, allow us to scale and have redudant infrastructure, it will also allow us to finally add some much needed features to the game. The game server deserves a status update of it's own...

Happy hunting till next week, then we'll release a set of 10 pheasant missions.
and here are the rest of the moose pics

We call them Wapiti.

Wapiti is another name for what Americans call Elk

Elk is the proper name for "moose" in the English language (that's what you guys speak in the US ).... When settlers from Europe went to America, they saw a big deer and thought it was the "elk" they had heard about that lived back in Europe... They were wrong... Name stuck.

The latin name is Alces alces... So us calling them Elk, Elg, Elch or any other variation wins

Moose comes from a native american language... Using a borrowed word to name something that already have a name in your own language is pretty stupid.

Hog Missions

As promised last week, we today released a set of 10 new hog missions!

The first hog mission becomes available after the "Take a 6 pt mule"-mission is completed (this is the second mule deer mission, given to you by Doc). If you've already completed that mission you will now have a new message from Doc waiting for you.

To accept a mission, click the big message icon in the upper left corner or select Messages in the Social menu once logged in on the website. Now check your Inbox for messages from Doc. Click on the message to display it and then on the suggested reply to accept the mission.

Next week... Scent Eliminator!
https://i989.photobucket.com/albums/af17/thehuntergame/Status%20Updates/scent-eliminator.jpg
Reduce your human scent to prevent it from reaching a supersensitive nose. Get an advantage over getting detected by that trophy buck and make the lures and attractants you use more effective.
and

- Scent Eliminator spray
Doc's just added Scent Eliminator spray to his store! 50 uses for 120 em$ will reduce your human scent for an hour (game time, you'll get a notification when it expires) and thus lower the risk of spooking an animal catching your scent in the wind.

- Coyotes
Several tweaks have been made to the coyotes, they now have slightly worse vision and sense of smell. Overall, they should be somewhat easier to get closer to.

- Reduced nervous time
Once spooked animals are no longer in their "nervous" state as long as before. While being nervous an animal does not respond to calls and overall are much more cautious.

- No optimal sequence for callers
The mysterious optimal calling sequence when using callers has been removed. Simply use it in a way to mimic the sound of the animal. It is still possible to loose effect or even spook animals if abused (i.e. sounding the caller every other second or keeping it sounding for a minute).
AND

Settler Creeks

Yes, Settler Creeks is the official name of the new area to be released 13th December. Here is an overview map:
https://i989.photobucket.com/albums/af17/thehuntergame/Status%20Updates/settler_creeks_map.jpg
We felt that the working name Old Farmlands was actually somewhat missleading, a better working name would probably have been Abandoned Farmlands. More farmland-like is the area we envision to put adjacent to Settler Creeks.

Here is a small gallery of screenshots of the new area to give you a glimpse of what to expect...
https://i989.photobucket.com/albums/af17/thehuntergame/Status%20Updates/settler_creeks_screenshots.jpg

It feels a little bit like a combination of Logger's Point and Whitehart Island but with some new elements added like small fields with old fences, abandoned farmhouses, rusty old equipment, small creeks (which you can walk through), some new flora (birch, most notable), new hunting towers and more... not to mention some pretty interesting landmarks and quite a different topography. Overall really making this a truly new unique hunting experience.

The animal population is now final. Settler Creek will be populated by Elk, Whitetail, Feral Hog and Turkey.

Here are some quick flybys put together as a preview video. Some HD quality stuff next week.

Coyotes

We've added completely new howl sounds of the coyotes that also will register on the HunterMate. Another change have been made to how they react to calls. If a coyote find a call interesting it will now prefer to more quickly trott to the source. We've done this change to make them behave a little bit more realisticly but also to provide a slightly different way of hunting. Having them trott to the point of interest does mean they may more easily be attracted, on the other hand the closer they get to the player the more likely they are to spook. Applying some strategy and a steady shot is what it does take.

Ground blind

A new item will be added - the ground blind! The ground blind significantly reduces the chance to get detected visually by an animal. It will have a lower spook radius than the tree stand when erected, but on the other hand it does not provide the same elevated advantage as the tree stand.

The ground blind from the inside:
https://i989.photobucket.com/albums/af17/thehuntergame/groundblind_02.jpg

The ground blind from the outside:
https://i989.photobucket.com/albums/af17/thehuntergame/groundblind_01.jpg

Actually at this time it will not be possible to see the ground blind from the outside since it will work in the same way as the current tree stand implementation. However, adding support for a more permanent world is definitely something that is coming. We want to make it possible to put out a tree stand or ground blind at a spot and then leave it thre. The item will remain at the very same spot the next time you start the game.
