Just bought a new copy of 2142, says my CD Key is already registered

And to top it off I can't use my regular gaming name (Jaekus) as it says it is already taken, yet when I search for a player with that name noone comes up.

I've contacted EA but all they replied with was a generic email asking for feedback on their help service. FFFFUUUUU-

Any ideas guys?

Steam version? DVD version?

The reason why the player might not show up is because they may not have any points.

if it's a hard copy, it's possible someone just ripped off the cd key.

I bought it from EB Games, DVD copy. It's brand new.

I had good luck with EA email support about a year ago when I couldn't remember any of my login info for 2142. Took a day and they had me back on track.

Played for 3 days and haven't touched it again. lol.

I paid $10 for it lol.

I rang the store, they said they've got another copy they'll replace it with.

Just an update, exchanged the game last week and installed/patched it last night, works fine now.
