My brother has decided to buy a home theater for Christmas but he is not sure what components are good quality for the money.
he is looking to spend about 1000 dollars for it.
he was recommended by some friends of his that Harman/Kardon make great reciever and Polkaudio are a good speaker too.

we went to test the polkaudio speaker and my borther wasn't impressed by them this is what we tested.

As long as it's not wireless, you are off to a good start.

No matter what he decides to buy he should go listen to it first ... be sure to combine a system that works great together, not all components do that ...

Harman Kardon makes good receivers but they are a tad overpriced tbh ... Pioneer & Denon are better choices ... Polkaudio I'm not that familiar with ...

Like I said, spend some time listening to different systems if it sounds right to you ...

If I were buying a receiver I'd prolly get a Denon or Onkyo

In my ideal setup, i'd go for a pair of Focal Twin6 Be's, with the solo6 model behind... the only problem is price, and i'd need a decoder... tbh, systems that would sound great would be home theatre in a box type thing... provided you go with the right company... onyoko, hk audio, and polk are all good brands iirc

I have the TX-SR700 to a 5.0 channel surround sound Infinity speakers, and it's wonderful. Even without a subwoofer, there's a nice amount of bass.

Ah - only a $1000 budget. Perhaps not then.

You still need an integrated amp to go with this no? And he needs a receiver if he's gonna make a home theatre setup.

Well, you'd need an amp - and you'd be mad not to get a pre-amp too, if spending >£25000 on a power amp.

A friend at work just bought one of those - sounds incredible.

25k!? Holy fuck. Did you really think that'd be within his budget, or did you just want to post that?
