Well I'm upgrading my video card from an 8800GT but can't decide what to get.

My comp is:
Q6600
4GB 800 Ram
ASUS P5K-E
ST75ZF 750W

So first will both be fine (I assume they will be) and second, which one to get (they're practically the same price)?

Calling from my own experience with current gen cards, I'd say the 4890 is the better card. How much would you be paying for it?

I went with a GTX 275, supposedly quieter (which it is). I'm not one to concern myself with hunting down and after market video card cooler.

I poked around on the charts as well to look at benchmarks ... http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/gami … 1317.html. Both are close, the 275 seems to edge the other out.

GTX 275 or Sapphire HD 4890 Toxic / Vapor-X. These are the alternatives with quieter coolers. It comes to personal preference which one, they perform almost identically (I think the Toxic model should be bit faster than GTX 275 stock due to massive factory OC).

If you like higher resolutions with less anti-aliasing, go with GTX 275. If you prefer AA but are willing to take a hit on the resolution side for it go for the 4890.

Just saying.

@OP: The 275 would do a lot better in folding.

I accidentaly voted for the 275 ... So deduct one vote from the 275 and add to the 4890. But the Toxic cards from Sapphire are quite good.

I will buy as soon as possible R4890 Cyclone OC from MSI! So i voted for it
It has Dx10.1 while GTX 275 is still on Dx10.
880 Mhz Core and 3900 Mhz Memory clock! sweet!
and its GDDR5! and GTX 275 is still GDDR3

God no.... jsut get the Sapphire toxic instead. it has 960mhz core and is not MSI. -.-

e: oh and AMD ditches DX10.1 for DX11 in 2 months so GG.

And the GTX 275 has 448bit memory, HD4890 has 256bit. So in fact the GDDR3 config in the nvidia is on par with the GDDR5 on the radeon.

275... seems to preform better in all the benchmarks I've checked out and from what I've looked into it seems the only single gpu card worth getting atm.

Then you're not looking at many benchmarks.  The 4890 can go head-to-head with the 275, no problem.

I agree, I thinks it better since its ATi, they are not as greedy as as a corporation as nVidia.

For me it's not a matter of corporate greed.  I just prefer ATI's drivers.  I've had better luck and fewer issues with them.  When the 48xx series released I couldn't have been happier to rid myself of my 8800GTS.
