I just can't get the bloody thing working, basically, my case fan runs at 2750rpm all day long and i just want to take it down a few notches. Should have been a simple enough task with Speedfan, but no. Anything out there easier to use? Something idiot proof?

Maybe i should just buy a fan controller.

most fans can't actually be controlled by speedfan. Try the BIOS or a tool from your mobo manufacturer.

i can't get anything to control my fans .. i have a couple of case fans connected to the mobo headers and 2 fans in my true push/pull both connected to mobo via 3 pin .. but neither the mobo nor speedfan editing will make any noticeable difference :S

Open up speedfan.
Hit configure.
Advanced tab.
Find your mobo chip (the one with the longest list of stuff).
Change all PWM modes to "Software Controlled" and save.
Go back and change fan speeds.

This only works for fans attached to the motherboard.

Looks better and has full control of last two fans.

Plus I've got it.

Worth a try.

Thanks for the replys but i think i'm going to buy a new case, Coolermaster Elite 335 i think, around £35 delivered. I also got cooling issues on my GPU, i can't really direct any cool air towards the card in the current case. So i'll get the new case, and go from there, probably buy a fan speed controller.

Again, thanks

So find a 5v feed and connect the fans ground to that 5v feed and connect the 12v as normal? Which connector should i be using? The standard 4 pin connectors that would supply hard drives and optical drives?

Yep that standard molex connector. Connect red wire of the fan to the yellow of molex, and black wire of the fan to the red of the molex

He means black fan cable to red molex cable.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

i had a similar problem using speedfan on a P4 motherboard, so i bought the zalman fanmate for £4 from ebay & it works great.
