EA released a new video, 14m long which most of the trailer came from, except its a walkthrough with the Exec producer, if you carefully you can find out lots of things muahahahha. Anyone spot the soviet replacement for the operations center/tier 2 tech building ?

Those boats are a good idea for units actually, be interesting to see which ones can/cant get access to boats (if the MCV can...they should all be able to ). Expanding the game to the water for a larger naval focus, including bases, is good, but he said that no other RTS does that...2 words: Total Annihilation.

Didnt like the unit selection with a big red outline to the vehicle, looked fugly as hell and there was no identification to the health/armour of that unit. Disappointed to see aircraft carriers instead of cruisers ( <3 cruisers ), but oh well. And wtf @ the new ore method?

Also, anyone else notice that either a) They havent done all the voices yet or b) They've copied them from RA2

I reckon they're just using all the RAII ones as placeholders for now. Get the game finished before worrying about sound effects and that sort of thing.

And yeah. Total Annihilation: The Core Contingency did it first. Including amphibious units, bases on water, base defenses on water, buildings underwater, and so on. However, it's nice to see a modern game do it again .

I'm also not sure what I feel about the Generals-esque building. Well its not actually. This time the money drains as it builds instead of paying up front, so its more like a compromise. Again, like Total Annihilation...

Talking of building, there's a return of grid based building . I don't know about anyone else, but free-form building is more frustrating than anything else when you try to build closely packed buildings.

Glad i'm in on the beta, its looking quite good .

Dw Snake, Apoc has said that the voices are just placeholder, as the voice commands and all that are one of the very last things that get taken care of in the development process.

Free-form building was a failed experiment, agreed.

No not all units are amphibious. Atm its MVC, surveyor, bullfrog, assault destroyer, conscripts, V4 rocket launchers, ore collectors, combat engi, maybe tsunami tank.

Tanya's back. The motor boat is cute. Man cannons, parachutes, devastation! Combine that with the engys that could possibly capture structures. The vacuum bomb looked kinda cheap tho, hope they still keep nuclear bombs.

No nuke, Soviets Ultimate Weapon is the Red Giant Launch Bay which gives you the Red Giant Implosion ability. Not quite sure why they keep calling it a vacuum bomb, must be a nickname.

I can't wait.

..But I agree with the red outline.

I hope that gets changed.

Edit: That Sickle infantry ambush was awesome.
..and so was that Tesla-Troopers launch.

Gota be. Red Alert (or any RTS game) without MP is like BF2 without online MP: utterly pointless.

Lol yes. EA is pushing the 'RA3 as an eSport' notion again, though hopefully this time, unlike TW it will actually have the gameplay to support top level play.

Looks

I didn't see anything I didn't like, except the ore mining idea is dumb IMO. Tib/ore fields are to classic, to FTW to get rid of.

I also noticed CnC3 repair drones flying around the Allied base. But I didn't see 'em near the commie factory, maybe they get a different method of repairs.

Exactly what I thought. I can only see it as useful for saving room on the map that would otherwise be full of ore. Just to save room and make the map more detailed for cliffs, etc. Its like Generals - and it sucks.
Meh.

I hope not. I hate it when games try to hard to cater to the top teir of players. It often means that the majority of the players, the ones who dodn't give a shit and just want to have fun get left behind.

Its possible, but cnc games are yet to be so deep that that happens. Sure it could still happen playing online..... but then if you're playing online you can't expect to get the easy way out.

I know Guild Wars PvE players were constantly getting the shaft while they focused on PvP all the time.  It was annoying having to constantly change skills because they kept getting nerfed due to PvPers overusing them.

Hopefully RA3 will be fun and balanced.  They can have online features for competitive play but they shouldn't change units and other things around just for the top levels.

I think SCII will be good like that, its very likely that the campaigns will involve units which won't be available in multiplayer, and that's not just including hero units.

The MCV is a large vehicle with room for expansions like that. I don't think you're going to see too many tanks and riflemen swarming destroyers on the high seas.

Yeah, I think the MCV looked like designed to have an almost boat-like hull, unlike the Guardian Tanks and Sickles

Of course, knowing Red Alert, the Sickles might skid across the water like bugs.

They could be used to take out dolphins...
