link doesn't work

EDIT: link works now - it seems like a waste of money at the mo, i'd prob buy one when everysingle thing is written as 3D and not 2D. then it'll look good.

Seems interesting. Although it also seems like the technology isn't mature yet. I'd get one of those... In five years.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Yeah I agree, seems kinda steep now for some unknowns.

if you guys go into an army recruiter in any big city (some small cities too)
ask them if you can try out their ATLANTIS VR SIMULATOR

careful
if you are really good at it
they will hound you to join up

after you get done using it
tell them you have some disease like aids or hepatitis or
that you are battleing heroin addiction

You can also find VR
at major theme parks

similar tech in the new Samsung HL-T5687S I recently acquired ... but that was at a ridiculous discount.  I'd say hold off until the industry has more firmly settled on standards for such things and there's at least a demo of the capabilities to take advantage of.

So, if I play CoD4, will the gun be outside the monitor?

i think so

then you can grab it off the screen and go shoot up your neighborhood

yelling squad commands wildly at strangers while they are checking their mail or walking their dogs

i may just go do that anyway

If you haven't, take a good look into this.

Up until I saw this, I'd be leaning towards agreeing with you Freezer, 3D monitors up to this point have used a slightly different technique, but this one is doing it in a slightly better way.

It works on both ATi and nVidia GPUs and has ok specs - 22", 5ms, 1680 x 1050 native.

If I had the money, I'd get one.

OH, and you're not attached to the monitor/graphics-card by a cable - so more than one person will be able to view the 3d-image (though it will have a very definite 'sweet-spot').

I would have to actually see this thing in person but even then I doubt I would ever buy it until the technology became mainstream and actually worth a damn. As it stands now, it only looks like an overpriced piece of shit, and I can't imagine that the detail would be that great on games... maybe movies though.

It won't do shag all for movies. Unless it's special stereoscopic movies.

The source needs to output stereo images - one for the left eye and one for the right.

Any (I believe) DX8 or later GPU that can display full 3D on two screens will do.

And you'd be surprised at just how much more detailed games look in proper 3D.

@Freke - what % of games will work properly with it, in your estimation?

ok first  thing this monitor is for real.  the basic effect is that it looks as if you have a monitor but instead of a screen there is a paper city inside full of action figures running around and you just wanna reach inside and play with em but you can't of course.   Makes half life 1 look 100 times better than half life 2 in the good ole boring flat-o-vision. Both games are supported btw. Here is a list of supported games:

http://www.iz3d.com/t-supsupportedgames.aspx

Note that this is just the games that were tested and are known to work. If you have a directX game chances are it will work, and openGL support is coming soon.

regarding 3d movies- yes they are supported also but they have to be actual 3d movies. converting a standard 2d movie to 3d using software, while possible yields very bad results.

ORRR..You can spend 1/6th the price and get these,
http://www.edimensional.com/product_inf … ucts_id=28 ($99.95)
Or the wired version
http://www.edimensional.com/product_inf … ucts_id=29 ($69.95)

But yeah, basically what these do is they force your monitor to flash between 2 slightly different frames at high speed, then the glasses cover your eyes at the same speed. This produces the illusion of 3D, apparently it works too.
