Catholic to Buddhist and I will always believe in God, just not the God stereotype.

Simply put, the stance the church has taken with the few priests who abuse children was enough for me to say they care more for their own grace then they do God's.  I understand forgiveness but when the church allows priests to remain as priests but only move to another congregation where they can do it again baffles me.

Besides, the Bible, the Talmud, the Torah, and every other holy book was written by men.  And no matter how pious you are there will always be slant and bias to what you feel is right.  Too many people take these books as the end word on divinity and living instead of using them as they are meant to be used... as guides.

Buddhism for me shows a practical and sustainable path for happy living with peace and harmony.  I'm pretty sure God would want that over me killing another person just because they don't think Jesus was the son of God and my book says he is.

never was forced to follow any faith.  I was put through catholic school for a couple of years.  my family is catholic.  i was fortunate enough to be raised in an environment where faith decisions are left up to me and not my family.   ive been areligious since I was 8.  before that, I was a catholic without even know what religion was.  like most people in the world.  I did my cimmunion, confession and catholic babtism.  never went through conformation, so officially speaking im not even catholic.

Atheist to Buddhist to Atheist.

Originally I was Atheist all throughout school life while my school and family was trying to force-feed me Christianity - something I never bought because I hated the idea of organised religion. That and I didn't agree with all the points of Christianity and I was not going to believe blindly in something that didn't make sense to me.

I read up on Buddhism and a lot of it made sense to me, it tied perfectly with my own beliefs and neither conflicted so I read up some more on it and became a practising Buddhist.

Later I realised that I was kidding myself following someone elses value set, however closely it tied with my own so although I still agree with the Buddhist lifestyle I am officially an Atheist.

What in the name of all that is unholy would make you do something like that?

Well, being raised without choice to attend meaningless Lutheran services (including confirmation as a 13 year old), it wasn't too hard to recognize truths when it was my choice to decide on religion.

Without explaining my conversion story (something personal and sacred) in this forum, I'd rather turn the question around to you asking how in the name of all that is holy could you do what you did?  lol, but I'm NOT asking, so no need to say it here.  But I would love to continue this conversation privately..unless there's a "mormon convert" thread popping up sometime...in other words, I'd prefer not to hijack the thread nor share personal sacred revelations in this environment.  I've done plenty of that in the past and it was not received well or respected in the least.

I used to be religious when I was younger. I would always go to church with my parents and stuff. Now I'm not that religious as I was but I still believe in my religion I just don't go to church.
