M'kay, so I'm going to Mexico for vacation, blah blah, need PSP games to keep me busy.

I'm a shooty-type person, but I can live with anything not racing or fantasy related.

Yeah, so, choices.

Both GTAs are good, aswell as SOCOM navy seals 1 and 2.

Daxter, and Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters

Both are platformers, the first more than the second, but the stories and gameplay are excellent You can find reviews here

Metal Gear Solid: Portable ops is the best game you can get on the PSP IMO. It has a great singleplayer and lots of multiplayer options. With the recruiting system it almost becomes a pokemon game. If you have access to a PS3 or own one, go on the PSN and download some of the PS1 games from there (such as Crash Bandicoot). It's amazing how some of the games are still fun and work very well on the PSP. Also, Virtua Tennis 3 is good fun as well.

Edit: Forgot to mention you can get the Ps1 games for around £3 so I would guess they would still be quite cheap over there.

BTW, does anyone know of any games like SOCOM or R6, y'know, with teammates and the like?

I'd prolly go with SOCOM, but we'll see what else there is.

Tales of Eternia is pure win. It will give you at least 30 hours of story-awesomeness.

install Dark_alex's custom firmware and then you can run some homebrew games as well as emulators for a variety of consoles and still be able to play the official games
