Trying to decide which gfx card to get. 7900gs or x1950pro there is about a $10 differnce in price between the two. These are my specs:

intel c2d E6300

gigabyte GA-P965-DS3 (v2.0)

2gb ddr2 800 cas5

These two cards im looking at are by asus and gigabyte also trying to find out the better manufactuer.

Is a 8800 based card totally outside your budget as that would be the better card to get?

Of the two above I think the 1950pro is the better card but I may be wrong. I think tomshardware.com has a lot of info about components.

Yea 8800 is out of my budget im just pushing for this. The only thing i know for sure is the 7800gs has 20 pixelpipelines and the x1950pro has 36, if anyone has any info on them let me know.

nvidia drivers are more stable! ...as for perfomance there is very little to seperate the 2 cards.....so the choice is yours as they say!

I just read somewhere that the x1950pro comes faster out of the box but the 7900gs overclocks a little higher im not into overclocking much so do you recomend the ati card?

Buy the HiS x1950Pro tis the shit.

TBH I'd be looking at an 8800 or nothing even if its just an 8800gts. Similar price to the x1950.

What do you mean a 8800gts is like double the price of a 1950pro here?

X1950pro!!! beats the 7900GS in nearly all benchmarks.....
i have a X1950Pro, i love it....
good card, i have the one with IceQ 3 cooling.   http://www.i-tech.com.au/products/8420_ … Turbo.aspx
so go for the X1950Pro.

EDIT:oh and you said the X1950pro has 36 pixel pipelines... not true it has a 36 Pixel SHADER processor..... and 12 pixel pipelines

but out of the 2 cards.. the x1950pro for sure!.

goodluck

Quick look at www.scan.co.uk for prices - they are normally the cheapest UK retailer for gfx cards.

X1950 Pro = £125.71
X1950 XT  = £201.97
8800 GTS  = £274.95

EDIT: 7900GS = £134.88

I'm prejudiced against ATI - had some bad experiences with them and games in the past.  And there's this rumour going round that they made cards specifically to excel at benchmarks, not at gaming.  But that was some time ago.

I'd say go with Nvidia.  It's the way the games are meant to be played.  Or something.

if it was me

id have the XFX 7900GS 40 Edition

XFX fans have been stoked to perform @ 40% of there actualy speed

using rivatuner or something you can stock that fan up to 100% of its actualy rpm

that leaves great over clocking capablilities

some have even had it out perform the X1950 in some cases

problems with ATi may be in the past, considering that AMD bought ATi lkast year. Nvidia is about to have a run for their money. right now, though, Nvidia FTW.

Im on my other account now since my acc B00MH3ADSH0T got a 3 day ban for flaming lol... Well anyway i been reading reviews on both cards and some games the ati card does better and in some the 7900gs does better and seriously i cant decide which to get. The main thing that is holding me back is im not into overclocking and the x1950pro is a very good card at stock speeds but the 7900gs will kick its ass once overclocked. Can anyone help find me a bf2 bench mark on both cards that isnt bias? Also the gigabyte version of both these cards come stock with zalman coolers. so i guess that would help if i oc'd a little.
it will be nvidia as the game was built on the nvidia architecture

hense nvida the way its meant to be played on the intro movies.

most games are built on the nvidia architecture as they offer alot more things for gaming i.e the purevideo technology and the HD

nvidia will be better for bf2, much much better than what Ati could do.

Seriously, there's nothing coming out that's any good for the next several months. If you can play the games that are out right now without a hitch, then I'd say wait.

I want to pick up a 8800 gts(going for $370 usa right now) but I realise there's really no reason to do so until the good games come out at the end of quarter 2 and 3. By that time, newer cards will be out, and the prices of the current cards will drop.

If you could hold out for another month or two you could get a 8600 series card for <$200US. 8800 prices will probably drop then as well.
