Armed citizens take down suspect robber; getaway driver on the loose

PHOENIX -- With the help of two armed citizens, police arrested one man in connection with armed robberies at three different pharmacies, but they believe another suspect -- the getaway driver -- is still out there.
Not only is James Johnson, 43, facing charges of armed robbery, police say more charges could be coming.
According to Sgt. Trent Crump of the Phoenix Police Department, Johnson hit three pharmacies -- one in Glendale and two in Phoenix -- in a single day.
It started at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, March 25. Crump said Johnson walked into J&J Arrowhead Pharmacy just northeast of 67th Avenue and Union Hills Drive, pulled a handgun on an employee and demanded OxyContin. Pills in hand, Johnson fled the store and was spotted getting into the passenger seat of a black Ford Expedition.
Less than two hours later, Johnson, still armed, allegedly walked into Estrella Pharmacy near the Loop 101 Agua Fria Freeway and Thomas Road, about a 20-minute drive from the first scene, and pointed his weapon at a pregnant employee. Crump said Johnson gave that employee a note demanding OxyContin pills. She shared that note with other employees, which is when things took a turn.
Another store employee grabbed his own gun and order Johnson to the floor. Surveillance video shows that Johnson started to comply, but quickly jumped up and ran out of the pharmacy empty-handed.
Just after noon, less than three hours after the first robbery and about 40 minutes after the second, Johnson allegedly walked into a third pharmacy -- Melrose Pharmacy, which is just west of Seventh Avenue and and north of Indian School Road, about a 23-minute drive from Estrella Pharmacy.
Crump said he pointed a gun at an employee and demanded the store's stock of Percocet pills. While employees were gathering those pills, a customer was able to slip out of the store and get help.
Two armed citizens confronted Johnson -- who was still armed, himself -- as he tried to leave the store with a bag of pills, Crump said they detained him until officers arrived on the scene and arrested him without incident.
Crump said witnesses to two of the robberies reported seeing Johnson get into the passenger side of a black Ford Expedition with dark tinted windows and stock wheels. The license plate, which might be from out of state, starts with AA and has five numbers including 1, 4, 9, and 0. The letters are red over a white background.
Nobody saw the driver.

I haven't taken any shots beyond 200 yards with it.
Nice scope for the price. Their warranty is good too.
I have one of their mounts that had an issue with the thread insert.
They were easy to contact and took care of the exchange quickly.
I bought the Vortex based on others I know that have used them.
Everyone seems to be happy with them.

Based on this information there were 617 justifiable homicides by firearm in 2010.
62.39% by police and 37.60% by citizen
Citizens used their guns in justifiable homicides 60% as much as police.
I hear people claim cops need guns because their chance of needing them is much more frequent.
Some say the chance of a citizen needing a gun is so rare, but its not much different than police.
At least as far as justifiable homicides statistics go.
This information shows how much citizens use their guns when the problem comes to them.
The cops on the other hand seek out or respond to the problem.
When there is a mass-shooting some talk about all the lives that could have been saved if we had more firearm laws/restrictions. You don't hear about the 232 people who justifiably shot and killed someone who threatened the life or safety of others. These are just people who actually killed someone in defense. In my opinion the use of firearms for defense, without resulting in someone being shot or killed, if accurately recordable, would be pretty high.
Initial impression:
Mirror Pond is probably the best of the 3.
Anchor Steam Second
Racer 5 last. Not recommended.
Will have to finish off the Mirror Pond and Anchor Steam to determine which is actually better.
The Racer 5 will be drank when I don't have any other beer.

I suggest Schlägl Bräu, which is made from a small brewery owned by an abbey.
You don't even find that in many supermarkets around here.
From the other beers they have, Gösser is the most popular followed by Stiegl and Eggenberger.
I have never heard of Samichlaus.

If you cant afford an actual gun safe (internal locks, bolted to the wall/floor/both) you shouldnt have a firearm.
Based on that the cheapest is $430US. Thats the cost of a pistol or rifle. That just doubled the cost of firearm ownership and the safe isn't even installed. Some people can't move these themselves or have the tools or knowledge to install them. I don't know what you guys have out there, but a lot of houses here have concrete slabs, which many have never drilled or installed anchors in. Some are post tension slabs, which you need to have knowledge about before drilling. Even simply anchoring to the wall (correctly), which isn't as secure as concrete, is beyond many people. So they have to pay for install too. With purchase, delivery, and install their cost has tripled or quadrupled. They still haven't got any ammo or items so they can practice, take a class, or get training. Lets say they get that cheapest safe, but don't get it anchored, which is pretty damn common. The weight is about 100 lbs. Now thats enough for a woman, weak man, disabled, or elderly to not be able to move on their own. But a criminal could probably carry or drag it out. That's assuming its not easy to defeat on site, which many lockers are. So the firearms are still not that difficult to steal.Adams_BJ wrote:

thats just a quick google search. Obviously price a quality will vary.
It did work for keeping guns away from kids in the house though, but so would a lock that was included with the gun. Both lockers/safes and gun locks require someone who has enough responsibility to use them. Without use they're still worthless. The kids that are getting their hands on guns here are guns that most likely already came with locks, yet the parents or gun owner didn't use it. Requiring a safe would be the same thing.
I believe everyone, who hasn't proven themselves a threat to others, has a right to firearms for self defense or other legal activities. It is the best tool for self defense. I don't believe in making people jump through hoops, pay fees, pay additional costs, or go through a waiting period. The harder, more expensive, or more confusing you make it, the less people will do it, and I don't think thats right. I do believe its a good idea to secure firearms in a locker or safe and properly anchor it, but it shouldn't be required. Just because someone can't afford or justify the additional costs doesn't mean they shouldn't be able to own a firearm. For many just making the decision, mentally and financially, to purchase a handgun is a big deal. Having to get or do a lot of other stuff can be too much. These requirements scare or turn people away, which can leave them defenseless. Some of these people need them the most.

The Journal News is Armed and Dangerous
Posted January 1st, 2013
ROCKLAND COUNTY TIMES EXCLUSIVE
Armed guards from RGA Investigations have taken up post at the Journal News’ Rockland County headquarters
BY DYLAN SKRILOFF
Guns are good for the goose but NOT for the gander.
A Clarkstown police report issued on December 28, 2012, confirmed that The Journal News has hired armed security guards from New City-based RGA Investigations and that they are manning the newspaper’s Rockland County headquarters at 1 Crosfield Ave., West Nyack, through at least tomorrow, Wednesday, January 2, 2013.
According to police reports on public record, Journal News Rockland Editor Caryn A. McBride was alarmed by the volume of “negative correspondence,” namely an avalanche of phone calls and emails to the Journal News office, following the newspaper’s publishing of a map of all pistol permit holders in Rockland and Westchester.
Due to apparent safety concerns, the newspaper then decided to hire RGA Investigations to provide armed personnel to man the location.
Private investigator Richard Ayoob is the administrator of RGA. He told the Clarkstown Police on Friday, December 28 that there had been no problems on site at the Journal News headquarters despite the massive influx of phone calls and emails.
McBride had filed at least two reports with the Clarkstown Police Department due to perceived threats. However, the police did not find the communications in question actually threatening. Incident-Report 2012-00033099 describes McBride telling police she was worried because an email writer wondered “what McBride would get in her mail now.”
Police said the email “did not constitute an offense” and did not contain an actual threat.
The Journal News caused an international stir when they released an interactive map of pistol permit holders names and addresses in Rockland and Westchester counties last Sunday, December 23. The editors have said they believe knowing where guns are is in the public’s interest. The newspaper has also taken a strident editorial position in favor of strict gun control.
Rather than take the map down following the public uproar, the executive board at the Journal News has decided to “stick to their guns” and double-down on their original decision, as they have said a map listing all pistol permit holders in Putnam County will soon to be posted.
[update---Putnam County officials have since announced their intention to not comply with the Journal News' request for the names and addresses of pistol permit holders]
The controversial use of the Freedom of Information Act to create the interactive map may come back to bite the Journal News and others who would prefer that pistol permits remain public record.
New York State Senator Greg Ball has already introduced state legislation to make such records off-limits to the public and Rockland County legislators led by Frank Sparaco (R) will soon introduce a bipartisan-sponsored resolution with a similar intent.
It is not clear whether the negative reaction has threatened the Journal News’ true popularity as a news source. As an anecdotal piece of evidence, the Rockland County Times confirms receiving an influx of new subscribers who stated they cancelled their subscription to the Journal News due to the gun story.
The Rockland County Times has not investigated whether the Journal News’ Westchester County headquarters in White Plains has beefed up security.
Please post an example of what is an acceptable 'gun safe', to you, for someone who has one handgun and one long gun.Adams_BJ wrote:

Also what is the point , to you, of the acceptable 'gun safe'?

If a ban ever comes down they will be used for registration and tracking. Im sure the feds already use them as a form of registration when a FFL goes out of business and all their 4473s are sent in. Who knows if the auditors copy or record some if not all when they want or if the NICS records are destroyed/deleted per law.Reciprocity wrote:
Oh no, 4473s!!! that's how the invading commies will disarm us.
I know, I've paid them plenty of times.Reciprocity wrote:
It's already a common fee paid for FFL transfers.
I don't see any point in doing them for private transactions.
Its just one more cost required to exercise your right to keep and bear arms.
The NFA process is bullshit.
Why on top of that process does it also cost $200 each?
Why does it take months and months for approval?
Why can't new machine guns be added?
Doesn't seem like its about safety to me. Seems like its about making things difficult and expensive so less people will do it. Its nothing more than control and it works pretty well. Shall not be infringed
A gun locker isn't difficult for a thief to break in to, take with him, or come back for.Reciprocity wrote:
locks keep honest people honest and dumb people frustrated. Of course, with time, resources and insanity, anything can be defeated, so what's your point? Smash-and-grab crackheads are interested in the fast, easy score. A curious 3 year old won't be sparking up an acetylene torch just to accidently shoot his 2 year old brother in the head.
A safe or bolted down locker is much more secure, but costs more money.
Money one should not be required to pay to exercise their right.
A locker is not a cure for bad parenting.
Should all gun owners also be required to have a locker in their vehicle?
Doesn't every new gun come with a gun lock? I know you can get these locks for free. These gun locks should stop children from shooting them, but they don't. Hows that one working out? Not so well. Hmm, lets make some more laws to fix stupidity.
I believe its a great idea for gun owners to secure their firearms when not in use. I don't think it should be required by law.
I see these gun buy backs for "safety", but I've never seen a gun locker/safe give away for "safety". Sounds like a good idea to me. Why don't all these people who think guns should be locked up in lockers or safes donate their money to purchase some so they can be given away to those who want them?
Spoiler (highlight to read):
its not about the money
