Given that 2142 hasn't been as much as hit as EA were probably hoping, I'm half wondering if they'll end up doing another $10 pack just to generate more money off that. It might end up more profitable than the 2142 expansion

AT are easily stoppable with a coordinated wolf pack. In SF, they get an advantage in having the grappling hook. Even then, it's easy enough for some sniper on a perch, or another Assult or AT kit to head up there and remove the problems.Sup3r_Dr4gon wrote:
AT. In vehical maps they are unstoppable, as they can actually kill armour. Add the grappling hook from SF and then you can get to rooftops the tanks can't aim at. Even in IO, the AT kit still pwns. Those medic bags and 36Es don't do much good when a single shot from a guided rocket can instakill you. And the DAO-12 is amazing against infantry, you just empty the drum at your target and they get shredded into ribbons. The only downside is the reload - both the AT rocket and DAO take massive amounts of time to realod their small magazines, so if all you're targets aren't down by the time those 13 shots are fired, you're pretty screwed.
Still, a self-healing armor pack will take a good 3 AT's to manage to get consecutive shots off very quickly if they hope to take most armor out when sitting in a pack of 3 or 4, all repairing each other (and who knows if there are other vehicles behind, filled with Engineers, it's certainly been done).
When I'm in armor and in a pack, I'm far more concerned with Spec Ops than I am with AT. AT can be dealt with relatively easily in such a pack. Solo, I'm concerned but typically not paranoid. I'll simply move on from the scene if I can't immediately identify the AT and either let someone else take care of him or come back when I'm healed and dispatch with him.
Medics are the obvious choice. They get a full Assault Rifle, same as Assault, minus the noob tube, along with the ability to heal themselves. They don't get the added armor of the Assault kit, but this can be mitigated with a proper scattering of heal bags on occasion. With the G36E, Medics get a very accurate gun that can put people away quickly. It certainly helped me rack up points as a Medic before I got very comfy with the stock weapons (especially the AK's. Love those). One thing I've watched is the deadly Medic whore squads. I was in one with the top guy and decided to spawn Medic. We just tore the map apart. With 3 or 4 of us sticking together, all Medics, we just didn't die. Every so often, we'd have to grab a Support kit to resupply. That or get lucky with a crate nearby. We were quite literally a killing machine, sticking together and reviving/healing each other. We were a difficult force to stop and a flag capping monster.
As far as true domination in the right hands, I'd have to say Assault. The added armor, smokes/flashbangs, and noob tube are a deadly combination. I've taken out entire squads as Assault and had quite a blast doing so - actually, last night now that I think about it. Even more fun is Assault in SF, with the grappling hook. Many a Sniper were quite surprised that I showed up in their little nest, supposedly tucked away from anything other than their buddies at the top of the TV Station. Heh, it's amazing what a grappling hook and a quick jump from another building while pressing the E button will do for you They're deadly killing machines in the right hands. They tend to be overlooked by the more prominent Medic whores that can not only kill solidly, but are also racking up revive and heal points regularly.

I play that server every so often, usually when my other regular servers have a dropout in players. It's fun. I'm up and down there, sometimes up top, other times only so-so.
The chopper whores usually don't bother me much there and I usually get plenty of action ground pounding as Assault or Spec Ops.

I might believe you, except that stats processing was supposedly done as of noon two days ago. Over 48 hours since the completion, yet the number that have gotten their outage stats still seems rather low. That's not even including let alone the interim stats from the "fix" date of 6/17 or so until 7/9. Plus, we continue to have issues with current stats updating..Genera|-Idea. wrote:
Chill the fuck out they will update, it may take a while. Stats server is flooded with weeks worth of point whoring.
Outside of weekends, not true at all. I've played on many servers and watched my points tally up in BFHQ shortly after the round was done (as in, less than a minute). On the weekend, we all know that there's a lot more playing, thus, the stats server will take longer to process stats.RoosterCantrell wrote:

I have probably ranked up about six dozen times by now, its just that you are so close to the rank, you get the rank, but the server has not yet sent your scores to the MAster stats server, so every round until the score gets tallied, it will rank. wow, calm down.
They're updating, at least some of the time. Some of us question how reliable the stored data is these days, given that processing for the outage completed and many, like myself, have not seen any point increases from that outage let alone stats missing from the period from the time the server was fixed, to the processing completion of 7/9/2007.

What I question is whether or not the stats are going to show up on their play dates or if they're going to show up on the date of processing. Seems to me, it may well be one big lump, put in on the date of processing, but I can't be sure. I got a couple of updates recently, but I was also playing here and there, which muddles the situation.
So, right now, I'm not sure if any of the stats updates I've gotten were from the outage. I know I've gotten some current updates, having kept track of number of matches on a couple of maps when testing. I should really have paid closer attention. I do know I'm missing a pretty fair number of points, having had a couple weekend nights of long hours, and the points I've got don't seem to add up to what was earned in the outage (especially given that I know many of thosep points were from current updates).

Further, given that stats updates aren't even consistent or reliable for current playing, I'd say EA's still got some issues to deal with.[merc]montu wrote:

Even now, I'll only get stats updates on Small maps with a large number of players, that and Medium maps. Any kind of Large map has only updated a few times. The last update was on a round I'd gotten into at the end. I played the next round on that same server, no update. Something's off.
Good: Armor whoring it. I tend to be an oddball and go off as USMC and try to cap some flags other than Hotel and Square as my first priority. With a good armor group, capping the MEC base first is a great way to really put the hurt on them. Teamwork CAN be fantastic on this map. With I/O, it can be a fun map. The fun usually involves staying on the western (city) side of the map. The fighting between the Guard Station and Warehouse isn't bad, but nowhere near as fun as any of the west-side battles (Square/Suburbs battles are always loads of fun).
Bad: Teamwork can be horrendous on this map. Trying to get USMC to do anything other than cap the Hotel can sometimes be a point of frustration. I've had many times of capping the Suburbs only to have no one spawn there, leaving me to solo defend it, which usually doesn't result in keeping it for very long if the MEC are competent. I don't mind the clays, nades, and medic whores so much. I've probably done it myself, though I tend not to really use Karkand for claywhoring, that's what Warlord's for

Depends on how I'm playing. As a stealth Sniper, the M24. As a battle Sniper, definitely the SVD. I didn't used to like that gun but I've come around to it. On maps like Warlord where I'm typically moving around a lot, it works well. Given that I'm not the expert headshot sniper, being able to fire multiple shots really helps (I typically aim for the body, it's a tough habit to break). Though I used to run with the L96 and just pull out the pistol as a run-and-gun Sniper. Good times popping people off with the pistol
If a team is down to just their uncap, they' should be baseraped. Does it suck when you're on that team? Definitely. However, that's just the way it goes, sometimes. On many maps, there are multiple areas to spawn at, so it's not like the baseraping is going to be so bad that you have zero chance. Karkand, Sharqi, Daqing (at least for the PLA), Oman (for MEC), and probably several others have multiple choices for spawning.
I must admit, a personal favorite of mine is Warlord as SAS when the Insurgents only have the 2nd Floor Palace flag left, and FF is OFF. Claywhore/C4 fun time
Which reminds me, I really should look at running SpecOps more on FF=OFF Warlord I/O servers. My SpecOps KDR is lousy right now.

Given that I've only seen one round out of many update tonight (despite having at least back-to-back rounds on the server that did update), I'm hesitant to say that stats are updating. At this point, maybe 40% of the rounds I've played today and yesterday have posted. I think I'll just keep waiting for now.

While I never server hoped for it, I usually found it a fun map. I tend to like all the Chinese maps, not so much Wake, though. Like many have pointed out, the problem with most of the Chinese maps is that the flags are pretty spread out, making it more a vehicle map and less infantry friendly.
The maps I usually see are Karkand, Sharqi, Jalalabad, Warlord, and Ghost Town. Wake and Mashtuur usually get in on a decent "City Rotation" server. Good for Snipers, Medic whoring, and Clay whoring.

I remember the first time I was called a hacker. I was running as a Medic at the time, trying to rack up Medic hours. I forget if I was using an AK or the G36E, but I was doing pretty well. Some guy started complaining that I was hacking. I laughed.
Let's be honest, that guide, while obvious, isn't all that bad. The real problem with the guide is its assumption that you'll make it into a chopper as a gunner in the first place. That's just not going to be as easy as people think.
First, you'll have to be the lucky one out of several people trying to dash for the chopper at game start. That or you're hoping that your chopper gets blown up so that you can be one of the lucky ones out of several waiting all over again. If not that, you're probably on a relatively empty server and are hoping on sheer chance that you can find someone willing to pilot that doesn't completely suck. You're also hoping that you don't get a dick of a pilot that doesn't want to deal with anyone not a top gunner; someone that's likely to border you or just do nothing but yell, "hop out".
So, what do you think your chances are of getting that gunner spot? On an empty enough server, I can probably get the chopper and solo-gun but how much good is that going to do for the gunner noob that's just trying to get the hang of gunning?

IO has made life easier. You can claywhore on Karland, Jalalalalabad, and Warlord quite easily. Ticket loss isn't usually as bad.
I got mine on Warlord. Spawned as a SAS Sniper and went straight for the 3rd floor Palace flag. Captured it (probably getting a clay kill or two off the clays I planted at the doors) and went about the claywhore fest. It was a simple matter of dropping off the 3rd floor balcony to the 2nd floor, then heading to the 2nd floor balcony to drop more clays. Of course, I'd either try to get myself killed at that point, grab another Sniper kit, or grab a Support kit and resupply myself. Remember kids, No clays on you means no explosives kills.
There's plenty of places to clay in the Palace. I preferred in/around the 2nd floor flag room. Also got a few defending the Insurgent Hideout and a freak accident of dropping one at the Security Depot, having an Assault guy drop smoke, and an Insurgent running into my clay. Good times

Usually these days, I'm wanting to just continually play a specific map so that's what I'll look for. Typically either Sharqi, Karkand or Warlord.
Otherwise, I'll just hop on a server running a random rotation.

It depends. AA used to really suck in 1.12 and earlier versions. It's not bad now. Usually, though, you really have to get choppers that are busy with other things if you want to get kills. Especially on a map like Sharqi where they know all the turrets and are going to take them out quick.
AA vehicles are actually pretty sweet. The range is pretty decent and you can rattle off four shots before reload. I racked up quite a number of kills in them in 1.3, especially on Midnight Sun, when you could give yourself ammo as Support. I still need 30 or so more kills to break 1000.
With AA turrets, you've got to be really careful. You know that as soon as the choppers know they're locked on, they're going to pause a bit then drop flares all while getting ready to head towards you and blow you up. You can either hope that you get a lock and your shots off in time or get out of there and play the cat-and-mouse game some more. Worst case, maybe you distract them for some .50 cal or AT shots to hit. I wouldn't mind seeing some better AA re-lock abilities, though.

I tend to like longer rounds. More fun, especially when you're dealing with a server that only plays a map two or three times then loads a new one. I'd rather be playing than loading a map yet again.
If there's no other flags left, base/uncap rape away. If the team had been playing better and/or more coordinated, perhaps they wouldn't have gotten themselves into a bad situation like that in the first place. If it's my team, I just hope that we can do better next time.
According to my stats, I'm definitely a tank whore and clay whore with a bit of AA whoring and Medic whoring thrown in for variety. Did some Support whoring but now that I've got Expert Support, I'm not playing Support much for now.
Right now, I'm just Medic and tank whoring it.

It depends on what you're doing. I prefer the L85 to the stock USMC M16 so it was a no-brainer for me to unlock. Other than some special situations, though, I tend to prefer the G36C to the L85. The L85 can be innacurate at longer ranges than the G36C though at medium range, it makes a pretty good sniper rifle when set to single shot. I've racked up kills with it a few times in spots on Devil's Perch just sniping with it.
The G36C is the better all-around weapon. Still, I like the L85, if for no other reason, because you've got to unlock it to get to the G36E

That's evil. I've seen that a fair amount on Sharqi. Usually, it ends up being the USMC with something like the Hotel or Alley. There's plenty of killing to be had in those two spots.bullit wrote:

Tell him that the US military fought hard so that you could have the freedom to run around in the video game as the MEC and kill video game Marines. In truth, you're just honoring the U.S. military's fight for freedom by playing this video game!
It depends on the squad. There are times when I'm racking up points because I'm in a squad (Medic, Support or just lots of stuff to kill and someone to keep me alive). I'll usually join a squad and hop in with them at times and do my own thing at other if I'd rather be doing something else.
If it's one or the other, I usually do better solo than with a squad but a good squad is a very valuable thing.

I gave it a 6.
The game was okay if you didn't want to use AA or most of the Support guns besides the PKM up through 1.12. 1.2 was pretty solid other than clay whores being able to put 5 clays. AA was a bit overpowered but the smart air whores figured things out. 1.21 and 1.22 were probably about my favorite patches. 1.3 was alright and I could still play. 1.4 really hasn't done much other than take people out of other servers and onto playing Jalalabad for a while.

I probably nailed 6 within a short time before I was finally taken down. I wasn't overly impressed, to be honest.
Karkand clone? Not particularly. It reminded me much more of a combination of Ghost Town and Mashtuur or Warlord. Buildings with ladders are around large parts of the city making for tons of spots to get killed by grenades and Snipers. That and the occasional Medic camping somewhere low enough with an L85 or G36E.
Armor wasn't a huge problem. Much like Ghost Town, armor isn't as effective as Karkand since there's plenty of places to hide and plenty of spots for AT and SpecOps to pop out and blow up tanks. The two caps closest to the US uncap are favored spots of tanks, though.
Infantry only was okay but I'd probably have just preferred having the vehicles for this map. You have a better chance against the snipers and naders.

Infantry only isn't too bad. The problem is that the map is very reminiscent of Ghost Town and Mashtuur so you've got Snipers perching all over the damn place along with Support with 'nages flying everywhere. It was always a bit of a nade fest in a few spots on Karkand but with ladders to a bunch of buildings and bulidings all over the place in the city, you've got a bunch of people perched and sniping or 'nading all day. It gets a bit old quickly.

There's nothing quite like the Warlord Palace, especially if FF is off for clays. The Hotel's fun but the multi-level mayhem in the Palace is far superior. Even better is that you're more likely to keep a good Palace battle going (each side keeping one Palace flag) than you are a Hotel battle.

Ahhhh, now you're going for the "there's no lines, n00b" comments. Typical. That's a defense thrown out by those that can't handle that someone else got their toy. I never suggested a queue system, though I've seen some servers enforce such. That's you putting your own bias into my words.
I've played with some great pilots who were perfectly willing to take me up as the gunner to have some fun. New players don't learn if vets never bother to help them learn and you're a perfect example of that spoiled brat attitude.
I wouldn't expect Dragon Valley to be an underrated map. The Heli whores tend to do pretty well on this map with the helis that can spawn at the caps.The_Shipbuilder wrote:
I didn't include Dragon Valley, I thought it was super popular. It is on the two servers I play. My bad!
My vote was FuShe Pass. I love the multi-level on it and some of the roundabout routes taken to some of the flags. Plus, it's still the most beautiful map of the lot.
Oh they can try and TK me. I'll just grab that jeep and shoot them out of the air at that point. No sweat off my back.^KoB^Buckles wrote:

Sorry, there's no such thing as "your" vehichle. First come, first served. Get in line. If you didn't want me in the heli, you shouldn't have died. Things happen? Yeah, like me getting in the heli instead of you. Grow up. Deal with it. If I'm going to crasy within a minute or two, you can easily wait that minute or two. If someone is stupid enough to try to take the vehicle of someone who is likely to TK them, then tough titties, they deserve to be TK'd for their stupidity. If someone is owning the map in a chopper/jet, then i'll say, "great stuff, now i'll go get in my jeep, maybe freshly dropped by my co-operative commander, and go cap that flag the nice pilot just cleared for me with his bombs while the dudes in the chopper clear my path and take out anyone/thing that trys to interfere"
Teamwork FTW!!
Again, if you little whiners could either wait a minute or two that it takes for them to crash and the chopper to respawn, there'd be far fewer problems. Again, you kids seem to have this incessant need for instant gratification and have no patience. I've watched guys roll off in armor I was using, knowing that I'd simply stay put since they'd be dead in a minute and the armor would be respawning shortly. Many times, it did. If not and they were racking up kills, so be it. I'll just go do something else.

I have to say that for Expert Repair, none has screamed opportunity for this like Warlord as SAS. The Insurgents are almost always launching from the TV Station off to blow up commander assets. I switched to Engineer and got Vet Repair and it took all of about 100 tickets to rack up 14 or so repair points. Taunting their side doesn't hurt, eitherOrangeHound wrote:
That badge is all about "opportunity" and I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out the right approach. You have got to have the right circumstances to get it. Obviously, a 64 player map with 25-30 people is best to get the badge because you need a longer round.BrOk_MoRdU wrote:
Dude! How did you get your Xpert repair badge so fast?
Highest opportunity: I had gotten in the high teens on Wake a couple of times just repairing tanks & commander assets as Chinese (I personally think that map provides the most opportunity). The USMC frequently takes the airbase and destroys the assets ... basically, keep going after repairs on that base ... I would charge into the base on a flank along either shore from one of the nearby flags with wrench out ready to repair. You just need a couple of boom-happy special ops on the USMC side. When the assets are not damaged, CONSTANTLY monitor the AA batteries on Wake for repairs ... those and jeeps give you points the fastest. (BTW, others have said that they've gotten lots of repair points as USMC on Wake repairing the AA ... but this requires the Chinese raping the carrier deck).
Above average opportunity #1: I've also found in the past that being USMC on Oman provides lots of great opportunities (that's where I got my Veteran) ... assuming the MEC is blowing up the artillery. With this map, I repair and then go swim in the water between the arty and the Essex .... as soon as special ops return, I'm back out of the water to repair.
Above average opportunity #2: However, I ended up getting my Expert Engineer on Iron Gator repairing the Essex AA (got 23 in the round, and could have gotten more if I had paid more attention). Iron Gator doesn't provide as much opportunity to get expert UNLESS the attacking squad is (a) too weak to get a flag on the Essex and (b) there is a very good gunner on the Hind constantly taking out the AA. The Essex AA is the only "vehicle" that doesn't have to be occupied in order to get a repair point.
If you try this approach, keep low next to the missile launcher (lower level), and as close to the ship as possible in order to avoid kills. Here's the position I used:

In almost all award situations, you do have to wait for the right scenario. I've just found that Warlord tends to encourage a scenario that can get you Expert Repair. Usually the Insurgents are hell bent on keeping the TV Station and it seems common to find a SpecOps with a vendetta against commander assets. One last pointer is to try and play on a server where clay/mine FF=OFF. Why? It'll help ensure the Insurgents keep the TV Station that much longer. After all, you want them to have a nearby spawn point to encourage them blowing your assets up so you can repair them.
