I believe it stemmed from the fact that during Maoist China, it was hard to find any decent food so people started eating whatever the hell would fill them up.
Now the disgusting stuff they ate then is seen as a delicacy, I have some pics of a Chinese market somewhere, will hunt them down.
PS You think Tiger is bad, from what I've heard the ultimate delicacy is aborted fetuses.

The western MSM don't care about Chinese civilians being killed if the gov't didn't do it. Even less so if the gov't is actually doing the right thing in this case and calling for calm, with riot police on the streets instead of army units.Ilocano wrote:

No talk about Chinese Muslims rioting and killing innocent civilians? What sucks is that only this morning, did our State Department issue an alert about travel in the city of Urumqi. It took 5 days before our own government to take any real notice.
I'm not. The Chinese govt's asshole is hard, unforgiving and has teeth.Turquoise wrote:

The Chinese government is currently trying to push its 'green' credentials and this company, which is privately owned, went behind govt regulators to make this deal without their knowledge. This would mean that they essentially batfucked the govt. in this regard. my 2c

I would say personal connections would have more influence here. E.g some high ranking justice dept official to twist a few levers to lower the sentence to life imprisonment or something. But as death sentences are taken quite seriously, I doubt they would get away scot free.Turquoise wrote:

It might also interest you that a recent regulation requires all death sentences in China to be sent to the High Court for review before being carried out. Perhaps we will see a reduction, or maybe not - who knows?

It may be so, and perhaps future generations of Chinese may see their past and government differently. Should we leave it at that?Turquoise wrote:

I agree with your statement that the Chinese government doesn't have "ethics" with regards to their policies, but all policies as you have pointed out, a governed by cold hard self-interest. As to the degree various governments do this - that is up for debate.
You may also dismiss my "mental gymnastics" with a wave of your hand, but the fact remains that the Communist Govt from 1979 onwards has achieved tremendous strides forward, recovering from the disastrous Maoist economics of yonder years into the position it is in now. These cannot be dismissed so easily. As I said before, we would not be having to rather lively debate if China were not a power player in the current world arena.
Whether the price paid to get to this step has been right, or worth it, is again up for debate.
I am sure that people of China will have different views, as will people from HK and the West. You can rightfully disagree with me, and I respect that.
They've been extremely clever and have essentially beaten America at its own game.
My only argument is that the human cost has been extremely high.
You are quite the funny one, son. I always thought pro-separatists prided themselves in seemingly rational, educated thought, but it seems recently that have degraded into a boganish mob. Perhaps you will be more adept in chasing your 15y.o female peers instead of attempting to put down a country you have grievances with in such a juvenile manner every chance you get.Cybargs wrote:

A study commissioned by the Dalai finds a Chinese spy network! Amazing!
1. Everyone spies - 'I spy with my little eye!'
2. If this PRC intelligence spy network was discovered by a group of Uni ppl suggests that it was:
a.not very good in the first place (aka amateur - I don't see CIA or any other major intelligence agency cyber-intel network being cracked by some random Canucks)
b. meant to be found
c. just some dirt digging by ppl with vested interests.
