That cobra maneuver will do them no good when they are at cruising speed and get popped from 70NM with an amraam 120 (or whatever they are up to now). The f15 + better pilots + better avionics = f15 > Su whatever + anything. And yes the cobra is an impressive manuever in an air show. To bad they wouldn't get to use it much in actual combat.

Hey Mike, drop by with your 15 and give me a ride man. Only aircraft in the USAF inventory I would have given my left nut to ride/fly. And after you get your new bird come give me ride in that one too. I'm sure I can fit into it somewhere.
And if there are no groundpounders around?
Hopefully you pretty well cleared the area before taking a helo in for a flag cap anyway.

I'm curious to know if this box you refer to is the one at the bottom of the hud that represents the direction the nose gun is pointed? Does that move with the TV camera aiming cursor as well? I've not paid close enough attention when lining the bird up for a TV missile shot. I do know that if the prospective victim is outside the HUD boundaries (that being the area boxed by Heading, VSI/Altitude, Gunner View Direction Indicator and Rotor Torque Indicator/Airspeed) the gunner (in TV cam mode) will not be able to see the target the pilot sees. Are you saying that a box appears around the target similar to the ground target mode in the fixed wing?blackwidow wrote:

I'm a pretty fair helo pilot and I always try to give my gunner a decent shot on target. Gunners that have their priorities (1. AA, mobile or fixed and/or enemy attack helos, 2. all other targets by damage/threat relation) screwed on right are nice to have as well. If a well trained helo pilot/gunner team is up in either attack helo and the enemy fixed wing (my preferred gunner and I have shot more than 1 down, but we figured they really sucked) stays occupied with other targets the balance is surely shifted to that team.
Any pilot that doesn't pick up his gunner after a flag cap needs to have his fingers and toes removed and not be allowed back in a helo.
So lock the squad after you make it.
Overclocking is really for folks who can afford to have their machines melt down in some way, shape or form. If you have a spare/other machine to use for pratical matters then by all means O/C your processor and vid card like chuy says. If you don't use your machine for anything critical or practical then all you risk is your capacity to goof off. I prefer dependability and stability over riding a lightning bolt. But that's just me, speaking from a few past rides on lightning bolts. One other thing you might consider is getting well away from the clogged up driver set that dell puts on everything. And the only way to be certain there are no lingering parts of dell's weak driver set is to reformat and install a set from Nvidia.com or you could try Omegadrivers. I used these on a dell I9100 notebook and noticed a 10C degree drop in my GPU temp when playing Doom 3. Hell prior to installing these driver the machine would lock up at the first cut scene. Good luck.
Post your list of tasks from task manager. There is also a listing start, run, services.msc that can be helpful in killing unwanted programs from starting. check out answersthatwork.com for another of those sites that lists what some of these items are and if and how to disable them.
I don't think those are "Branch" designators. Rather, they are simply version numbers meaning the A was built/designed first and/or was the first "production" run. A few years from now if not already, the C, D and E versions will appear. The A model was probably easier to produce, if it didn't have the SVTOL capabilities, so they ran it first.Effreem wrote:
I thought the designator was A for Air Force, B for Navy (STOL) and C for Marine (VTOL)
There is target symbology in the hud. A square box in the hud represents an enemy vehicle. A Square with an X in it represents a friendly vehicle.
With BF2 requiring so much of your system resources a "clean" running machine is usually a necessity. Unless you have the cash to foot the bill for 4 gigs of ram and some ungodly processor setup. Don't allow anything (and I mean anything) outside of operating system necessities to run on boot up. Having less than 20 processes at boot (for a personal gaming rig) is a good rule of thumb to go by. And in this case less is better. If you can get it to 15 procs at boot, even better. Make all those antivirus/spam/spyware scanners stop their realtime modes. Just do manual scans at regular intervals. Kill everything not required like Quicktime. qttask.exe is insidious about working it's way into your running processes list.
There are several tasklist (running processes) listing sites out there, I use this one frequently, http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist … sklist.htm. Take a peak.

Why is the F35 in the game and not the F22? Didn't the F22 get the nod for production over that single engine VTOL? Or did the USN pick it up? If they are trying to keep to the USMC/Navy equipment the F15 shouldn't be in the game.
Two very different programs.. the Lockheed YF-22 beat out the Northrop YF-23 (one of the most beautiful fighters ever designed IMHO) in the US Air Force's ATF (Advanced Tactical Fighter)program.
The Lockheed F35 was born out of the DOD's JSF (Joint Strike fighter) program. The X35 beat out the UGLY as sin X32 from boeing. The JSF is supposed to be the largest military procurement in history and includes the Royal Navy, the US Marines and about a dozen other NATO partners. The Aircraft is designed to come in 3 standard configurations
(1) The Smallish NON STOVL (Short Take Of Verticle Landing) Air Force Version.
(2) The Larger NON STOVL folding winged Naval version with super rugged landing gear.
(3) The STOVL Version developed for the Royal Navy and US Marines to replace the Harrier.
About the F-15.. I just dont know why its there.. I am sure there is a good reason.. but it sure isnt a Department of the Navy Aircraft as far as I know.... and it is modeled after the F-15E model which is primarily a ground attack version..
but interestingly enough.. the US helicopters are not REALLY correct in the game.. The Navy has a few versions of the H-60.. they are the SEAHAWK family (the one represented in BF2 appears to be the MH-60S NightHawk.
http://www.sikorsky.com/details/0,3036, … 64,00.html
As far as I understand it (which is pretty good) they are not used as combat insertion A/C for the USMC troops (they have their own CH-46's, 53's and H-1 Hueys for that stuff). The Navy's H-60 versions are called Seahawks and are used for different missions including ASW operations, INFIL/EXFIL of Special Operations Forces, Search and Rescue, Cargo Hauling for some of the versions. I would seriously like to see the 53 and 46 make appearances, let the seahawks alone.
Also the Version of the Cobra that the USMC uses in the game exists only in a Pre-Production/Testing version.. but I will say that it is ready to go into full production whan the CORPS decides to buy them
http://www.bellhelicopter.textron.com/e … lAH-1Z.cfm
and the new HUEY is going into full swing production starting now for the USMC....

I reckon my real question was- if this is a modern combat game and the F-22 is to eventually replace the F-15 (which is my favorite AF fighter) why is it not in the game along with the F-35?
I took a look at that 32. You're right, it is ugly as hell. Delta wings never were my favorite type of wing design anyway. The YF23 is "prettier" than the 22 but it appears bigger as well. The Mad Major Boyd (Colonel by that time I think) fought for years to get tactical fighters built smaller and more manueverable and this is probably why they chose the F22 to avoid his pitching everyone else involved a ration of his cigar ashes.
Has the F-35 actually been placed into service? I didn't get that far in my reading. If it hasn't then my question still begs an answer. Since they decided to include an Air Force jet, why is the F-15 and not the F-22 in BF2? Damn game designers and their arbitrary decisions anyway.
Wake would not have been my first choice of maps from 1942/DC to add in. Gazala would have been up there on the list. That bomber map (I never can remember it's name) from 1942 would have been better than Wake. What's the point of all that ocean without naval warfare.
I think that Voice over Volume is for the VOIP software. Have you ever noticed that when someone keys up on VOIP your game sounds diminish? I think that is what that slider is for. Play with it and see?
Which equates to $37.5 million of only half actually bought the game and the other half are secondary accounts or some other form of access.
Good Grief! How does a body get in on that?

I think it's better now. Folks actually have to work for the caps by getting out and "securing" the area. I do think that a 2 person vehicle limit should be instituted irrespective of position in vehicle. It's not really logical for 1 of a 2 man vehicle to have to get out to help with the capping. But no matter what it is some folks will just not like it that way.
The MI-28's gun might have more splash, but not the cobra or the chinese POS helo.
I agree with this particular political stand.cmdwedge wrote:
EA have previously stated that in the game Medal of Honor: Allied Assault that you could not earn the MoH as it detracts from the amazing sacrifice of the real MoH recipients. So I doubt that it will be in this game either. It would be poor form, certainly.
Would anyone care to say what these settings actually do? I'm not quite brave enough to change them without some idea what they are supposed to do.
Alright let me clear this up. IRL butter bars are less than an E8 in the grand scheme of things. A major commanding a battalion would more happily sacrifice a squad/platton O1 before he would risk a command NCO. BF2 now has 3 E9 Ranks which all require differing levels of points/badges according to UBAR. In all honesty, I would expect a 2nd looey to take less than the Sergeant Major of the Corps since that is (only a Marine could verify this and I'm not one) the highest enlisted rank there is in the Corp and a 2nd Lieutenant is the very first Commissioned rank. They should actually introduce the 2nd Lieutenant rank around the E6(Gunnery)-E7(Master) area. Some combination of badges and/or medals/ribbons. The Captain (O3) point requirement should be a tad more than the Master Gunny and the
2nd Lt. should chime in as optional rank around 30-35K. What if I don't want to be a commissioned officer. Shit, E9s command more respect and authority than most O4s (Capt.) So since I have this class prejudice I should stop playing, or stop playing on ranked servers? Oh wait, sure, that's what they have in mind. Since if I'm prefectly happy to plug along earning medals/badges/rank in this game what would possibly entice me to hand them another $50? An expansion pack with actual "Modern" helicopters (Apache, Commanche even if the Corp doesn't fly those models or the F15 for that matter) in it? Hell no, I wouldn't buy that. I want to keep flying this retrofitted cobra with it's weak ass excuse for a chain/gattling gun.
Oh and by the way and don't quote me on this but I don't know that the Marines even has a 4 star General. Nevermind, the good General Hagee would probably be less than pleased that he isn't a 4 Star General after over 30 years service.
SMOC will eventually be replaced with Commandant of the Marine Corp. He's the Highest a Marine can get. But they may not use that for political reasons.
At any rate, this ex-zoomie thinks they still have some tweaking to do with the rank system among other things.

IRL most Medals of Honor (CMOH) were awarded posthumously. Meaning the heros who won them were not alive to take receipt.

That shoulda been fairly obvious if I'd looked at the data a bit. Got hung up thinking the R stood for Rank and couldn't think what the B might've been for.
Sorry.
Ok I did the agent orange searchy thing 4 different ways but was unable to find the answer. So, I'm a noob. Tried b.r, rank, ranking, and global ranking. 3 strikes your out and I took an extra cut. Someone else's turn at the plate. I understand what the G.R. is on the sub tables of the stats sheet but what does the B.R. signify?

I'd been doing "HALO" jumps for fun and profit for over a month (think it was a month) after starting to play. Saw so many others with this ribbon, checked UBAR for requirements, next server I jumped in I hopped in an airplane drove it straight at the sun and hit the eject handles. Popped my chute almost immediately and after about 10 seconds, I didn't time it but prior to hitting the ground, I got the announcement of award. I think one other unwritten requirement is you have to be chuting into an area that is controlled by the enemy or about to be. So just jump out over an enemy uncappable and get your ribbon.
Aside from stupid finger syndrome causing textual discrepancies, UBAR owns!

I did this with the pistol badges. I had over 100 pistol kills, no badge at all. As soon as I got the 7 pistol kills in a round for the basic badge I got them both. Basic badge popped up immediately followed by the veteran badge.
Don't know if that helps anyone but I figured it beared on the subject.
