What now..I guess I hope they could try to keep beating the militants back, maybe use some of the thought that 'worked' in Iraq, mainly getting the tribes on your side, by showing that you could increase security in areas you stay active in, and also don't be afraid to offer some financial incentives to a few people along the way. Hearts and minds and wallets?/

at risk of being obvious here but..My impression is that this is going to be different than Iraq, there are parts of Afghan that will never, ever be "pacified" let alone any idea about being democratized or modernized.

getting at I was looking around at other photos of Afghanistan, and saw these from Kabul:
http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/pb/11116a/254f1/ I know Kabul was nearly destroyed in the early 90's civil war, and then it can't have helped that we probably bombed it more later, but it seems from those recent photos that it's showing some signs of life.
