Google apps, tbh.
Probably cheaper, better, and more free space.

I haven't checked the physical locations of the individual lecture halls on a map, but we only get 10 minutes between classes. effemmell.Hurricane2k9 wrote:
Yeah, but it's a course I have to take to get in to the business school and I definitely need to get an A in it, so there's my motivation for going.
My Tuesdays and Thursdays won't be as nice sadly. Starts at 11AM, goes until 3PMish with only 15 minute breaks between the three classes. And they're all on different parts of campus so I'll be getting some cardio in. And on Tuesday I have a 2.5 hour-long lecture from 4 to 6:30, although the teacher apparently rarely goes the whole length, lets us take stretch breaks, and lets us get dinner on those days where does go the whole block.
Fridays are 10AM (boo) but I finish by 2:15.

Don't know about Uni-level physics, but my High School physics teacher used PP slides for notes and it worked out really well.Winston_Churchill wrote:
errm... thats what i said. there are plenty of classes that cant have lecture slides due to the nature of the course - ie math, physics, etc. plus plenty of professors prefer the chalkboardDrunkFace wrote:
Depending on the professor, you could just get the lecture notes straight from their computer.Errm... out of the 24 odd subjects I did, only 2 or 3 didn't use PP, and that was 5-6 years ago, and most were happy to email you the slides before the lecture, or they were DLed from the uni website.Winston_Churchill wrote:
yeah, nobody uses laptops for lectures. the only ones i see using it are when lecture slides are available.
Yep, x64 for sure. I will very well keep the pagefile idea in mind. Thanks!Shahter wrote:

Interesting. I guess we'll see within the first week or so in September.FlemishHCmaniac wrote:
It might depend on what course you're taking. In my four years of uni, I've noticed that people bringing their laptop to an auditorium are a very small minority. And they usually all just end up playing solitaire or checking facebook.TheDonkey wrote:

$200 seems steep, but DAMN they're fast, and slightly less powerhungry.
Yeah, it's a really nice machine. Stock it runs 9 hours on a battery, and I'm really good with finding power when needed. Lab reports and typed out notes for sure.unnamednewbie13 wrote:
This, really. As quiet as quiet keyboards can get, it's still like having someone drumming their fingers on the desk next to you. I've tried it, and quickly went back to pen/paper because it was less distracting and I could write certain figures more quickly on paper than I could with a computer.Uzique wrote:

The laptop will probably end up being used to do work on the OP's lab time and compile notes after class. A business-class machine should be good enough for that purpose. I wouldn't bother grabbing extra batteries or anything like that; I'd just keep it plugged in as needed.

Ultra-quiet keyboard on this thing (supposedly, it's a business-class (laptop and everyone always raves about how great the keyboard is)unnamednewbie13 wrote:
If your computer engineering is anything like my computer electronics was, expect to use it to just write notes for a long time. And that's only if you're allowed to noisily clack on your keys during a lecture.

@TheDonkey
The reason they jailbreak iphones/ipods is to be able to install third party apps onto the device. Android allows you to do this naturally, you just have to allow third party packages to be installed.
You can do that by going Menu>Settings>Applications and checking the Unknown Sources.
You then put any .apk onto your SD card and install from there.

Really, I don't see Windows Phone 7 taking off as a Smartphone OS with apps and the like. There will be Facebook, and EBay, maybe a few others, but it won't be a major app-store or marketplace like iOS or Android.FFLink wrote:

My dad's got a HTC with it, and everything is just so damn smooth and sleek. I'd love it to have, but I don't foresee a lot of user-made apps.
