Yup. I found out today that apparently summer high-performance tires don't work too well in the snow. Who knew...
Just over 180k (110k miles). Feels brand new, upgrades are already starting.

Picked up a 2002 540i. Nice machine, and me likey V8.
A new winter beater.
Flew to Venice for work. Had three days off, so rented a van with the crew and drove to Croatia. Best drive of my life. In a van. Not sure if that's a fwp or a good thing.
Yeah, I had a spare roof, so I may as well make some dough on it...
Sold a hardtop I bought for $85. The buyer paid me $1400. Including my shipping costs, I made $1050. I am pleased.
These? They're actually really not bad. A whole engine replacement cost me $1000, a full brake job on all four corners (with calipers) was $550. Don't know many cars that are cheaper to fix--even my MkIV Jetta was at least twice as expensive for the same parts.pirana6 wrote:

2 E30s, his and hers. Pictured with the gf, hers is the droptop. My buddy got another, which lives here too. It's black and has ugly wheels, so no pics.
That's the CRA for you--or better yet, the Canadian government as a whole.Pochsy wrote:

They were a bit scuffed up, so I passed. No more space in my car anyways...maybe I'll go back and grab some more stuff.baggs wrote:

All that is now posted for sale, should be making around $2300 in the next couple of weeks. 1000% profit ftw.
Did you get the door cards/panels as well? You can usually get really good money for them, especially as you said it was in such good condition.

Nice!
I set foot in Jamaica yesterday. Literally set one foot, for about two seconds. Then I thought 'fuck this' and went home.
Rob Ford is still in office.
Been better:
The last one is about two kms from my apartment, and the road I was supposed to take tonight. It's prepped for the Indy race this weekend.
Needless to say, there may be a small problem...

You can always try. If it fails, you have to wait five years. No harm done.pirana6 wrote:

turns out i had a whopping $91 (60 quid, 70 euroquid, 95 canadaquid, 99aussiquid) in collections since 2010. I know which company it is but I never knew i owed them and the neither them nor the collections agency has contacted me...
so thats fuckin awesome.
When I closed my cable account at one of my apartments in Pullman, evidently I still owed them money but they billed the old apartment where I no longer lived. Collections letters also went there (I assume). Anyway, it's now today and all this is over $91.
I've read it may be better to wait it off the 7-year limit (which means no loans or anything for the next half-decade). Or if I pay it it, I need to go through this huge process of getting everything in writing that it was paid then send that to the credit agencies to hopefully get it removed form the report. And even then it might not get removed, it'll just show it has been paid, and not only that, it will become a "recent" item and will start the 7-year wait over again as a PAID bill that was ONCE in collections.
I think it was you that told me I attempt to pay the actual company it was owed to, then go to the collections agency, tell them to review it, they'll obviously find it missing, then go to the credit agencies and they'll have nothing to report as it was removed from the collections agencies list of stuff I owe. This would remove it from my credit report entirely instead of having it on there as paid.
Is that the best solution? Do I need to get it in absolute writing that if I pay the original company (the cable company), they will drop the collections? Wouldn't they anyway?
So just an update. I called the cable company (it's time warner cable) and the guy I talked to sees my old account, but he sees that it's all paid in full. What I think happened is this: I paid off the last bill but kept the modem accidentally and never gave it back so they re-added the $91 for that modem. Since this was a month or two after I left that apt I never heard about any of this so the bills and ultimately collections went there. The guy at TWC thinks they didn't want to get into anything over $91 so they stopped worrying about it and wrote it off as a loss. The collections agency still has it in their system as owed.
My logic tells me that if I contact the collections agency and "lie" and say there's no bill there and never was, they'll (hopefully) look it up and see that I'm right then have to remove it and ultimately call it an accident (even though it wasn't). Then Ill have to tell the credit agencies that it was an "accident" they put it on there and it will get removed.
Does that sound likely? Or am I being to optimistic?
A set of Rial RS5 wheels and two Contis for my E30.

But seriously, find me a BMW convertible that looks good, runs and drives no problem for less than $3000 (our cost so far). I will buy it on the spot.
She can and does, just not now as she's in Europe. It's a hobby for me; I'd much rather spend two weeks and two grand fixing up the car than get her a brand-new one.Adams_BJ wrote:

Seriously though, it's beyond rationalisation. I buy old beaters and fix them up. I enjoy it tremendously, my girlfriend enjoys it, and we end up with awesome rides as a result.
Honestly, I'd much rather buy a crapcan for $5000 and sink 10 grand into it to fix it and make it as I like it than spend 15 grand on a new car with zero issues. Besides, I've yet to find anything that's as fun to drive as the E30s.
$1300 of car parts. Yay. Rear suspension and front steering overhaul, brake lines replacement, rust cutout and repair and rear brake job on my gf's car.
Central driveshaft bearing, front brakes and valve job on mine.

I don't know...I drive in pretty heavy traffic in what has been called the most gridlocked city in North America, but I wouldn't give up my manny tranny for the world. It's worth it even just for the three seconds I spend merging on the ramps.CapnNismo wrote:
The double-clutch transmission that the VW Group developed is faster than any manual transmission, hands down. When the 997 was introduced, only the Tiptronic and the manual transmission were available at launch and I recall an interview with a Porsche engineer in Motor Trend (maybe Car and Driver?) that said the Tiptronic was already faster than the manual transmission with little power loss and the double-clutch system was going to be even better.13urnzz wrote:
why would you ever consider buying a car with an automatic transmission? are you an american?
I would also always buy a car with an automatic transmission unless I was specifically buying a sports car. If I'm just using the car as a mode of transportation, I don't want to row through the gears in traffic, especially considering I live in a city. It's pointless and puts unnecessary wear on the mechanics and the driver.
Then again, I have an E30, which is known as the ultimate smiling machine; that may have something to do with it

1. It doesn't have a manual gearbox. A stick is the hallmark of the GT3.
2. It's buit on the fattest, largest platform the 911 has yet seen. Anathema to the GT3 again.
