Does anyone even use the nipple mouse? I only use it to fuck around when I'm bored.

Apple still sells the 160GB iPod Classic for 249 USD. Just bought one earlier this year.
It will be fine. Wireless has gotten pretty damn good these days. Wired is always preferable but in your situation it's just not worth it.
I bet you have to sell your house to buy it though.
Well you took all the rights steps - flashed BIOS, reinstalled drivers, reformat - so good on you. If it still doesn't work after you try reseating the card and plugging everything back in, I think it's almost definitely a failing video card.
I hesitate to suggest that it might be the monitor, but it's worth looking into - just try with a different monitor or even an LCD TV if you don't have another monitor.
Also, maybe try hooking the monitor up to the other DVI port on your 9800 (I assume it has two).

No, AA still helps to smooth things out. Maybe not as much though.
I used to have a Tritton AXPC headset that was USB, and it didn't cause any problems. Of course, if you have a sound card, you will get better sound quality from a headset that uses the sound card.
I just spent about $1700 on a Lenovo T500 and couldn't be more happy with it. Highly recommend Lenovo. Just go on their site and customize an R500 or T500 to your liking.
That type of freezing sounds like a software thing to me. Looping sound is generally not related to hardware failure. And a video card/CPU would not be overheating when he's just watching youtube or doing nothing.
But as Deathunlimited mentioned, you should try un-overclocking everything or removing all but one RAM stick.
When's the last time you reformatted?

When you say it freezes, what happens? BSOD or just the game freezes and you can't bring up task manager or minimize?
Does this only happen when you're playing Medieval, or for other games, or when you're not gaming at all?
And just because your video card isn't overheating does not mean that it isn't the root of the problem. It could just be dying. Depending on what type of freeze you're experiencing, it could also be a software issue though.

Sorry, didn't know there was a non-tech version of this thread. It hasn't been used in 2 months anyway, it's kinda dead.
Not tech, but I'm still excited about it. Scorpion Exo-700 street helmet.

I have the PSU that you picked out (the OCZ one) and it's great. I run my PC 24/7 folding/gaming/movies/internet/whatever and it's been rock solid.
There's a lot of good companies out there, OCZ, Silverstone, Antec, Enermax, Corsair and Thermaltake are just a few.

Just read this on the EVGA forums, it's supposed to increase PPD.
Tip #1: Setting Affinity
Affinity is when a process only runs on a certain core(s) of a multi-core CPU. First, I will explain how to change affinity, meaning how to change which CPU core a process will run on, and then I will explain which FAH processes to run on which core depending on your system hardware.
Changing Affinity:
To change affinity, open up the Task Manager. Click the Processes tab, and locate your FAH core process (FahCore_a1.exe, four of them, for SMP. FahCore_11.exe, for GPU2). Right click on it, and click Set Affinity. There will be two boxes if you have a dual-core and four boxes if you have a quad-core, which represent the cores of your CPU. By default, all boxes will be checked, meaning the process is allowed to run on all cores of the CPU. Unchecking a box prevents it from running on that CPU core. Read below to see which cores you should run your client(s) on.
Optimal affinity setup for the certain hardware configurations:
- Dual-core CPU without GPU2-capable graphics card. Run one SMP client along with the Affinity Changer program (more on this below).
- Dual-core CPU with single GPU2-capable graphics card: Run one SMP client, and one GPU2 client. Set all four SMP processes to run on one core, your choice of either CPU0 or CPU1. Set the GPU2 process to run on the other core.
- Dual-core CPU with multiple GPU2-capable graphics cards: Run one SMP client, and however many GPU2 clients depending on your number of GPUs. Set all four SMP processes to run on one core, your choice of either CPU0 or CPU1. Set all the GPU2 processes to run on the other core.
- Quad-core CPU without GPU2-capable graphics card: Run two SMP clients along with the Affinity Changer program (more on this below).
- Quad-core CPU with single GPU2-capable graphics card: Run two SMP clients, and one GPU2 client. Set the four SMP processes to run on three cores. Set the GPU2 process to run on the fourth remaining core.
- Quad-core CPU with multiple GPU2-capable graphics cards: Run two SMP clients, and however many GPU2 clients depending on your number of GPUs. Set the four SMP processes to run on three cores. Set all the GPU2 processes to run on the fourth remaining core.
Why not go i7? Would cost you about $150-$300 more depending on the RAM and mobo you get, but would be way better and way more future proof.
that heatsink is ridiculously big

World Of Goo (one of my favorites), Professor Heinz Wolff's Gravity, Icy Tower (free), The N Game (free), The Art of Theft (free), Peggle (can be addicting).
Those are just some of the little games I like. Also, if you're weird and like typing games like me, I'd recommend The Typing of the Dead. It's like the arcade game House of the Dead except instead of point and shoot, you have to type words and letters to shoot the zombies. Pretty awesome.

If all three of your video cards and the i7 are folding, you should be over 20k PPD. max could give you the best estimate because he folds like it's his job, but he's on vacation for a while. Looks nice, and the folding team could really use you now that we are in the top 150 worldwide!
I didn't know you needed a password for [email protected] You just need the password for the SMP client, which is the same as the password on your Windows account.
Why don't you build your own on Lenovo.com?
The SSD in my laptop is noticeably faster than the HDDs in my desktops. For example, Zune software is pretty bloated and takes a while to load when you have 4500+ songs. There's maybe a 5-10 second delay when I open the program on my desktop, but it opens almost instantly on the laptop with the same amount of songs.
Just get bigger than 64GB if you can... it fills up a lot faster than you might imagine! I'm kicking myself because now I need an external HDD for the laptop and it doesn't support eSATA.

Maybe an error occurred in the conversion, just try it again for the videos that don't work.
Ummm 40-45 C idle temps are not bad at all, you have plenty of headroom to OC. Of course, you should get an aftermarket cooler, especially for a quad core.rammunition wrote:
275 it seems then. i will overclock it, but its hot in the UK and my idle temps are 40-45'. i need a better cooler aswellGC_PaNzerFIN wrote:
Well I don't think the additional vram makes much of difference anyways (its like 100MB diff lol) but if you can afford the GTX 285, I do recommend it.
edit: like I said before, you defo want to OC that CPU too
Nope, my GPU client is still chugging away. That does happen to me every so often though. It usually manages to fix itself.
Well I assure you that the SSD that's in my laptop was anything but cheap, so it better not start getting slow anytime soon.
That's probably because your work computer sucks. Vista does not run well on older/cheaper computers, I'll give you that. But the computer that the OP is building will run Vista flawlessly, and Vista is better than XP hands down.specialistx2324 wrote:
dont get vista, for the love of god please.. that OS chugs like molasses especially when i have quickbooks and some other stuff running at the same time at work. vista is not optimized correctly. like ghettoperson said, save your money for windows 7 at least. vista does more than XP, but vista doesnt run as efficiently.
If your computer has i7 + 6GB RAM in tri-channel + GTX 275 (like the OP), I guarantee that Vista will no be sluggish. In fact, it can not be sluggish on much cheaper hardware than that.
I was looking to get the P182 also... I'm pissed that's it's been deactivated on newegg.
sfc /scannow
will scan for missing/corrupt files and should automatically repair/replace any problems.

What are the major noticeable differences between 7 and Vista? Looking at screen shots, they look almost exactly the same. I've delayed trying 7 out because I assume it will be very similar to my Vista x64 install, so why bother?
WHAT!!?? YOU MET MICHAEL PALIN? I'm gonna have to call bullshit, but if you really did... well I'd give my left nut just to see him in person. Just looking at him makes me laugh. Might be my favorite Python, but choosing a favorite is nearly impossible for me. Did you "meet" any of the other pythons?Bertster7 wrote:

Both are great.
I used to do tech support for Michael Palin. Fixed several of his computers. Seemed a bloody nice chap.

I looked in the laptop manual and found that I have IEEE 1394 connector (it doesn't give any more detail, just says "1394 connector"). So I'm in the market for an external HDD that supports this. I see on newegg that there is 1394a and 1394b.
Google/wiki don't make this clear, so will a 1394b external HDD be compatible with my IEEE 1394 port?
EDIT: My port is only a 4 pin so I believe the answer is no, it will not support 1394b. This sucks, wish I had thought about this before buying this Lenovo with a 64GB SSD

Can't figure out what this is... the one in the middle with the "P" (or is that a "D"?) over it. It looks like eSATA to me but the laptop isn't supposed to have eSATA so I just want to make sure.

If you want mouse and keyboard for GTA4, why not just get the game for PC? It's probably cheaper (or free if you want) and you wouldn't have to buy extra peripherals for the PS3..Sup wrote:
I might as well buy a new Monitor. What I would also like to know is mouse/keyboard compatibillity with PS3. Anyone tried connecting PC peripherals to PS3? Would need them for games lets say GTA4

Truth. I made the switch from XP to Vista and never looked back. Don't know what everyone is bitching about, Vista seems better in every way. Most likely, problem lies between keyboard and chair.GC_PaNzerFIN wrote:
well my own experience is that CF and SLi ran better, and even single ATi, ran better on Vista, so what kinda performance lulz ya are talking about.

e. and could use settings that really benefit from having raw power too, not just knowing they are there but can't use them because of XP.
got it working again, replacing the original exe with the drop-in binary available on the stanford site did the trick.
hmm still nothing happening after I delete the work and queue folders. guess i'll just try a full reinstall when I get the chance.
My SMP client randomly stopped working, nothing happens when I try to run the .exe. I forget, what are the files I'm supposed to delete to fix it?
Makes me want to play Mirror's Edge again.
Can the PS3 play .mkv files? I know it can do divx and such...max wrote:
HTPC, PS3 or whatever. Disks are outdated and annoying.
I'm not sure I want to go through the process of reformatting and then reinstalling all the drivers for the laptop. I'll probably just disable the extra services and processes in msconfig. But if it's really that bad, I will reformat as a last resort.some_random_panda wrote:
You'll want to install a clean Vista without Lenovo crap on it. It's harder connecting to internet with their utility than just the normal one. They also have tons of services that you'll never use starting up every time you turn on the laptop, so get rid of it quickly.SpIk3y wrote:

I'm sure, I opened up the disc in explorer and it has an AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folder with all the .vob files. As far as I know, the ISO used to burn the disc is an exact clone of the original.
Is this something that could be caused by copy protection?
Is this something that could be caused by copy protection?
I have 7.7GB ISO that I burned to a dual layer DVD using Nero. The disc plays fine on my computer but neither my PS3 nor my standalone Sony DVD player can play the disc. The PS3 says "This video cannot be played" and the DVD player says "Cannot play disc". I just double checked and it is definitely in NTSC format. Explanation/solution?
EDIT: To make things even weirder, PowerDVD and WMP will play the disc on my PC, but VLC gives me an error saying "You're input can't be opened."

I'm pretty sure the upgrade will make a folder on your C Drive called "Windows.Old" with all of your program files, documents, music, etc. You'll still have to reinstall the programs though. And it's always smart to do your own backup in case Windows misses something important and doesn't save it in the Windows.Old folder.
