And also in response to OP. The Marines are also cutting their AD force by roughly 20,000.

No combat deployment because I was in a commissioning program and yes it's my fault for not reading the fine print and seeing that it made me not able to go on a combat deployment. However the training I was talking about was a pre-deployment training for my unit. So yes I am bitching about it because they sent a Bn over with shit for training.
And once again you read one thing and pick it out. Don't even go through the entire post to debate the topic at hand. Just have to stroke your e-dick to improve your self worth. My guess is your response will be something about officers and how useless they are.

How is it that the DST is always attacking people. So no I didn't spend 7 months in a dirt hole in Iraq. I'm not a pog. But what I was talking about addressing the entire post, was actually the entire paragraph, sorry for the misunderstanding.
If the USMC can sell MCRD and make a profit it might be beneficial to do so. It will be more efficient to have all the training under one roof. So let's go ahead and condense the entire Marine Corps to one base while we're at it. Just for the sake of it we'll put the Marines on the Pacific Coast and for efficiency sake put all of the Army on the east coast in one base. And we'll give the Navy two bases, I know it's not fair, but, they really should have one on either coast. But we'll only have one ship yard, no matter that it will cut our production down too. Never mind the economical impact this will have on the surrounding areas because now the cost is so much less for the defense budget we will offset that impact.
As for several thousand extra rounds in Ft. Hood. Yes it did happen, and I received several messages from a friend of mine while I was there training without 5.56 at the range, though we managed to supply about 3000 rounds of .308, that they burned off 600 rounds of SAW ammo just to get use to firing from different positions. Standing, kneeling and prone. For a POG unit, he's NBC. Now you tell me that it simply didn't happen.
No the life of every Marine is not extremely difficult as many make it out to be. In fact getting new gear is a lot quicker and easier than it use to be. And some of the Army's units I'm sure have had difficulty getting supplies, the grass is usually greener on the other side of the fence it seems.
As to the blue on blue fire, there are a large amount of reports of Army on Army, Marine on Army, Army on Marine, Marine on Marine, Air Force on both, etc. etc. Proper communication and training helps avoid much of it, but not all. There are examples of reservist and pogs lighting up towns because they thought it was the best way to defend themselves. And of officers having the infantrymen shoot first ask questions later because they wanted to seem fierce. It happens in all branches so take your ignorance and hatred and breed it elsewhere.

Sere try the whole paragraph first before you reply. But here it is barney style for you.
1. Merging USMC and Army is bad because you lose the naval aspect of it. Leave the USMC as a division of the Navy. It will never be a self sustained branch and it has a marginal percent of the Navy's budget. The money spent on the USMC is well spent because it is so small. We don't always get enough rounds for training where as a Bn in Fort Hood fired off several hundred thousand extra rounds of 5.56 simply because someone added a few too many zero's for a Co training operation.
2. No it would not rip the heart out of the USMC to move MCRD. They spend 2/3 of recruit's time in San Diego and 1/3 of their time "up north."
3. However it would leave a large space unused and extremely hard to sell. It would move a source of income for several thousand people in the immediate area. It is better for the community to have MCRD then for the Marine Corps to have MCRD.

Merging the Marines in to the Army would be a horrible choice. You are looking at taking a "force in readiness" and reducing it to another corps of the Army. More than likely the top brass would start picking apart the divisions and give out equipment and personal piecemeal to Army units they deem needy. You basically take a self reliant unit and dismantle it, making it inefficient and bloating other units.11 Bravo wrote:

Having the option available is just as valuable as using it. In Gulf War I the Marines constantly practiced amphibious landing leading up to the ground force invasion. Sadam Hussein responded by placing the large bulk of his forces along his coast line to defend against the Marines amphibious landing. And not to make the world sound like there is human nature but there will be another war and there will be another large scale amphibious landing.Doctor Strangelove wrote:
I would ask why do we still need the marines if there hasn't been an amphibious landing in 60 years, but I know I would get flamed for asking that so I won't.
Our Military budget is larger than it needs to be. It has been regarded as a sacred item in the national budget for a long time. However no one has really gone through and audited the budget to the full extent to see where wasteful spending is occurring. The force itself is really not that big, especially for what the world demands of the United States in peace keeping action, humanitarian relief and policing actions.Dilbert_X wrote:

Wow 15 years ago the recruiters were all but sucking dicks to get people to join, now they're full. We as a country are fucked and I can imagine that the Army and the Airforce aren't far behind with letting people go.
I really don't even know why I am putting this in here. Dilbert_X is just a bafoon spouting off from his ass about things he doesn't know. A socialist agenda might look good and well in the short run but you are reducing the human desire for functional work production by giving free hand outs. An easier way for you to understand this would be take a class of kids and tell them that they are all going to receive the same grade for a test. The first test they all get a B because you have a few students who study extremely well and aced it, most students study at least somewhat and did decent but there are a few who did not study and did not even complete the test and bragged about getting a B without working. So the second test the average drops because a few more students want to get a decent grade without working for it. Those that studied are getting frustrated because they worked hard and are getting a shoddy reward for it. The cycle continues until only a handful of students who care more about personal pride and self worth are studying compared to the rest of the class who want a free ride. The result is that everyone gets an F.Dilbert_X wrote:

The Marine Corps is a division of the Navy. They are Naval Infantry with the ability to project force rapidly and self sustain for a limited amount of time to allow the Army to make its landing and roll through.eleven bravo wrote:

The Marine Corps is a self sustaining force for a limited amount of time designed to create and maintain a beach head to allow further reinforcements from around the globe to arrive and land.Shocking wrote:
I don't really understand the USMC, it's like a miniature army. Very different from what we call marines.
Once again, it is a self sustaining force designed to create a beach head to allow for more forces to land and reinforce. This means that they have to be able to:Shocking wrote:
What? They've got all sorts of heavy equipment which you don't usually expect in an amphibious/fast deployment unit. Tanks, very large arty installations, their own aircraft etc. The USMC can fight a conventional war on its own.
1. Land and make a beach head.
2. Defeat any forces that counter attack be they armor, air, infantry or a combination thereof.
3. Create and maintain a base of operation that allows for sustainable operations and expansion.
So yes it can fight a small war on its own for a limited amount of time. That is exactly what it was created to do.
MCRD is located right next to an airport. It is land that normally would not be bought by any retailer or home owner. It is not marketable. The only other marketable use of it would be dock storage and if you look across the water you can already see a dock.SEREMAKER wrote:

Also it is a visible reminder to the people of Southern California that there is a local military installation which for most if a reassuring factor.
Third it is a source of income to the area. It brings federal money into Southern California basically pumping more money into the area instead of just having the same money cycle through the same peoples' hands. It is a way to insure that the area does not start 'leaking money' to out of area installations or companies (more and more common with the internet shopping age).

On a serious note, all of the motherboards that I had came with a very elaborate handbook that explained with detailed images how to install all the components and connectors.
All the hardware parts themselves come at least with a quick install guide and mostly with a manual on CD.
The only problem I faced so far, was that my Arctic Cooling CPU fan didn't have the usual arrow to indicate in which direction in turns and the airflow goes. Had to plug it in and check the flow with a small thread.

Both are already OC'd the 460 is pretty much pushed to its max.
First set of numbers are the 460, second are the 560
Core Clock 850 MHz (v.s 720 MHz reference) 850MHz
Shader Clock 1700 Mhz (v.s 1440 MHz reference) 1700MHz
Stream Processors 336 Processor Cores 336 Processor Cores
Effective Memory Clock 3900 MHz (v.s 3600 MHz reference) 4104MHz
so I mean in spec's they are pretty even it appears.

I'm looking at a new build [3rd or so] and I've come back to the BF2s forums yet again because it's sort of my tech geek home. So hi, I'm back again. Yay! BF3 after how many fraking years?
Anyway I'm looking at parts and seeing very comparable parts for $20-60 in price range with the more expensive only out striping the lower in one category another. The easiest one to see is in the GPU: I've narrowed it down to:
EVGA GTX 460 (fermi) OC: $180 [$150 after Rebate]
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6814130596
EVGA GTX 560 (fermi) stock: $202 {shipping) [$192 after rebate]
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6814130661
They are identical in stats except for Effective Memory Clock (560 is faster by 204).
I'm not a terribly good OC'er. I tried to OC my 2nd build after a year and a half and instead had to do my 3rd. So I would be leaving these as I got them more than likely. Is it worth spending the ~$20 to get a little faster clock speed?
[edit: Adding comparison page link. I hope it works.]

woohoo time to fire up the old dustbox
so if you put in the odst disk you get an option to go into the beta?
It's a thermaltake. My coolermaster PSU doesn't work with the components for some reason so I'll just use it in the fiancee's computer later
Ok well I had an extra PSU but it doesn't work with this system for some god unknown reason why. Took it to a friend's shop and they tested it, it's the PSU, getting a new one, another 150 volts. Best part, they can wire it better than I can. Worse part, it's not completely my build now.
Oh yeah, windows 7 home
I was in the middle of playing a game, not even a very graphic intensive part and the computer just powered off like it was a power outage. The rest of the appliances were left on, including the monitor. So I bent down to check on the computer and the LEDs on the mother board are still on so I push the power button.
Fans spin, their LEDs turn on for a fraction of a second and then turn off. LEDs on the motherboard are still on. I turn off the PSU and proceed to dust out the inside of the computer (regular dusting was suppose to be this coming saturday) so it's not to bad but still a little dust. Close it up, turn on the PSU hit the power switch, they spin light up and die in under a second again.
I have checked the connections to the socket and the PSU plug. I've been running the system for months with absolutely no errors or faults. It has worked great, no flickers, no graphic errors, no ROM data recovery delays. Nada! And then today it just won't power back on.
So here is my question, what is the most likely cause of this problem?
Motherboard- EVGA nForce 590 SLi
CPU- AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ 2.6 Dual Core (2x 512mb cache L2) AM2

just curious, i can't seem to find a way to uninstall norton on this laptop. Heck getting add/remove programs is a pain in the ass it was renamed to some other shit but I can't really get norton outta here. any ideas?
good to know, speaking of windows 7 I got some advice saying not to upgrade hardware until 7 has been out for a while, but I really want to get a working desktop again so have there been any issues with recent hardware and windows 7?
thanks everyone. I have some of it fixed, talked her into only WoW instead of flash games and have her using the little stand so there is air flow underneath. Unfortunately I can't fix everything
she likes to play internet flash games and goes to all these random sites for them so I want her to keep a basic firewall. The thing with the XPS is that even on an even desk the computer overheats, it has a single vent in the back that just doesn't work well.
Now here is the freakist thing that it does and i forgot about it. She will be writing an article (journalist) and takes a little while, 20-30 minutes for short ones, an hour or two for the longer ones column like ones. When she is done and sitting on the couch away from the laptop (its still on the desk) it will crash to a black screen where it asks if you want to restart in safe or normal mode and likes to scan all of the files anyway. I just don't get why her laptop is so crash happy.

it's wireless, we both keep internet and can access the web. It just randomly disconnects her.
So we got her a dell XPS laptop a while back, probably 8 months. I hate the damned thing. It overheats faster than a stove and has so many background programs from dell it can't run anything efficiently. What I am having huge problems with is that she doesn't understand the difference between RAM and ROM and thinks that when we install a new program and then the laptop does something retarded it's the new program's fault.

Technical Problems:
1. Norton, the infamously horrible antivirus software and internet security, was already bought and paid for and installed on the computer before she got it. It sucks and takes up a huge amount of resources but it also suddenly quit working when I installed one of her games [WoW]. The antivirus part only doesn't work. At first it said that the subscription was up but online it reactivated and said she had 220ish days left. Well the antivirus still isn't up but we got the rest working and I managed to open up the ports for her to play on. If anyone can help me figure out what Norton is doing and how to fix it that would be great.
2. What is a low resource anti virus/firewall program?
3. I cannot run disk defrag. Yep, I get to the control hit defrag now and the computer literally refuses, says that it will run it when it is scheduled, but then the scheduled time comes and it doesn't defrag. WTF is going on?
4. She is playing WoW and it randomly disconnects her. I know it's not our internet because I will be playing a game at the same time and not even have a problem. What should I look at to try and fix this.
Also I've disabled user account control and windows firewall because Norton's firewall hates to go down and pops up every five minutes that it is disabled.

Theoretically I would believe that there is intelligent life else where in the galaxy. I highly doubt that there is a single nation cover up. I do believe that the incredible advancement in technology in the mid to the 20th century has not been entirely on the up and up. The invention of the microchip has been one of the most ground breaking and revolutionary events in human advancement. It has allowed for all these new technologies that have sprung up and the advancement has become exponential.
But then again it could have been human ingeniousness.

no the casino automatically posts your name picture and posts a story its great PR for them. It sucks. Casinos suck. That casino is no shit outta luck cause we've had I think 3 "major" casinos close in Reno/Sparks and a bunch of little ones shut their doors. As long as there are still a few poker rooms open I'll be happy.
i live less than 10 minutes from that casino... utter fail for me
absolute win
a sundress is (could be rather because it can be longer) a miniskirt with a top. and quit being so damn picky and just be happy that you get to see what you get to see..
do you honestly not see the plus side of sundresses? besides the fact that a slight breeze blows them up. and you can tell which girl will have a belly and which doesn't, just be smart, that's what an education is for. Geeze, everyone has to rip things down.. be glad there is previously hidden goodies coming back out to play.mtb0minime wrote:

(I can't stop agreeing with Haffey in this thread)
A lot of girls that wear sundresses or other kinds of blouses that are loose in the torso region are just covering up their pot bellies. Plus a sundress just doesn't conform to their wonderful hips and buns.
