I paid and got my beta key last night. Worth the money. A few hours worth of entertainment and experimentation over multiple nights for $7? Hell yeah.

Ahhh well, please remember that the legend of "ShowMeTheMonkey" has not died, just got shorter.
I'll still only play on BF2 as I love the real day setting. I hate playing in the future, it's just annoying.
The bit about not plugging in all the leads is for two reasons.
1. (From Actual Experience) Sometimes one of the leads may cause the board not to boot. So I just use power until I know it's all working fine. Then HDD, Power, etc. I save reset for last because it's not critical and the reset switch caused me not to boot on a few boards.
2. If you have to pull the board for any reason or flip leads it's easier to add one by one than unplug and flip all of em at the same time. Plus it's less to unplug.
But that's just me. Your individual mileage may vary.

Yes you can. But it may be expensive because they use smaller cases and smaller 3 PCI motherboards are usually more expensive.Aardcore wrote:
I'm being taunted by the very thing I don't have and that's a decent videocard and I'm being held back by my motherboard that's housed within this computer I've had and I'm wondering if a certain thing I can do to it can be done and that's to upgrade the thing from the inside out.
I'm currently using an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro but I have an ATI x700 Pro and a GeForce 6800 but my motherboard cannot support either of them which is very, very sad since that very thing is holding me back, and all that it's being held back by is the motherboard itself. I thought about something that I could possibly do and that's just replace the motherboard in the computer itself and MAYBE that could help the situation but I also considered the flaws that could happen to it, such as:
Since this is a stock computer made by HP themselves, would me tinkering with the insides itself hurt the build altogether?
Also, is it even possible? I don't even know what kind of socket it uses but I've come to know that it isn't a 939 Socket. It still uses the Athlon XP series CPU but I know I've seen other people run XP series CPU motherboards and still be able to use 6800's, even some other nearly high end, decent mark videocards that still use AGP.
I'd get another computer but I'm dreadly under budget and need to figure out how to compensate since I have good videocards available, but I JUST CAN'T USE THEM BECAUSE OF AN INCOMPATIBLE MOTHERBOARD!
So I'm asking you for help fellow Battlefield 2 brethren, can anyone help me answer the question:
Can replacing a motherboard in a premade factory computer like this Hewlett-Packard a420n be done for the sole purpose to run a much better videocard, and safely?
I did it for my brothers and I was a factory builder for HP for a long while. But I'd recommend taking what you can and building with new components in a new case that breathes better with a bulked up power supply. The stock power supplies were lucky if they were 230 to 300.
Sorry for the 2nd.
Has anyone gotten it to run with normal video just like it would on XP, or 2K3?
I have a very UGLY, looking run under native Vista 32 and under WinXP SP2 Compatibility.
I'm using an ATI card and I even have DirectX 10. (From the Software SDK from Microsoft)
and it's not pretty at all.
Gamma corrections won't hold with the Vista Beta Catalyst Control Center.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Burn the DVD if you want a clean install. Run the iso if you want to install over XP. I did but that's cause I use Server 2K3 as my base OS.

Question. I can verify that BF2 works.
But the game has visual artifacts and is just about as dark as the bottom of a well at midnight.
How did you correct this problem?
I could play the game but the graphics were all hammed up.
Did you run it under WinXP SP2 Compatibility or in Native Vista?
Do you have a NEW DirectX Beta for Vista?
Any help or suggestions?

I downloaded. I wasn't paying $6 USD for a DVD I could make and duplicate for free.
It said 9 hours, so I said OK, went to bed, and when I came home from work. BAM and iso I could load with Daemon Tools and install the OS.

Zboard Drivers work as well.
Installed last night via Daemon. Didn't have any NON RW DVD's lying about.
Works great. ATI's Beta 32bit Driver Locked up the System.
The 32/64 Bit Driver Installer went all the way through and gave Catalyst Capability.
But each time I installed something else, Vista would drop my Gamma Corrections.
Will be trying Vent and BF2 on the system. Tried SetPoint for Logitech G5 and it won't work, even under Windows XP (Service Pack 2) Compatibility checked.
I love how they ripped that off from Server 2003.

I am smack dab in the middle of the US. I speak what they call neutral English. I have no regional inflection.
To me "British English" is done somewhere towards the back of the mouth and "Irish/Scottish" type has the hard sounds about 6 inches outside the mouth. It's all about where you make your T's and R's at.

I can totally buy the story seeing as sheetrock ain't gonna stop a .44 round.
I'd get a piece of junk steel plate. I'm sure the body armor is real, and that you probably have it as your issued equipment.
But if it takes a round, aren't you out of pocket on that? Not like you can DX your body armor if it gets shot up "off duty."
I think I'd find a different apartment.
Unless his guns were junk and they were loose AND there was a errant round in the chamber, I could maybe see dropping it.
But I've never seen a dropped gun go off.
Your neighbor is a fuckin Section 8.
I just can't see how someone would be sitting down and pointing at the mirror. Unless he was on the shitter.
Hope he didn't have it out for you.

From everything I've seen, it's more smoke and mirrors than real product.
I tried the damned link, and got Euro Force. A game I've never played and never had a desire to.
Everyone else just shows screenshots, or posts a link for an "AF SERVER" that only seems to play Karkand out of Britain.
I've got the supposed "Leaked AF2 Manual." Which could very well be real or one hell of a photoshop job and then written up in Adobe Acrobat.
It IS in PDF Format.
It has dashes in the title and is in all lowercase.
Has a Muscle Car and a Semi Truck.
If anyone wants to see it, I will e-mail it to you. Just hit me at [email protected]
I can't find a way to stash it. I will check throughout tonight and tomorrow.
Are there any US owners, are they all UK?
Nobody seems to know.
If it's a bunch of fuckin griefing, you deserve to have a small temporary ban.
If you're honest and want to prove yourself and you're in the US, hit me at that address.
I'd really like to see what you've got with your download.
I'd like to at least think there are a few mature, honest people around here.
Hell, nobody even offered to let Chuy check it out.
But to all who want to see the so called "manual" hit me at the e-mail addy and I'll give it to someone to take and host somewhere.
I'm headed to the zoo now. I should be back in a few hours.

It was good overall. I'd shorten it in some places. And maybe drop the Irish accent. I couldn't tell if it was a non native english speaker working on sounding like an english speaker or if they were working on sounding Irish.
Secondary note, some of the sound effects overpowered a little bit and were a tad too loud, like the running, hummer motor and crash noises.
Great job overall.
This was flat out funny!

Yeah it sucks, but then again its not a sim. And then what stops the assholes from flying above everything for the whole round and raining death down untouched by ground weapons.
And I haven't figured out the scale. But when they use the meters system I don't think it's applicable to firearm ranges or anything else of the like. They'd also be out of the range of AA and Stingers.
I'd like it more realistic, but to have that that'd have to screw with several other things and we'd be up to our necks in patches.
