In reality I am adding to the burden. I am free and clear of taxes for years by adopting. 2 years ago I got more money back than I put in. I took the tax credit, but think the government has too many of these types of breaks.

Your argument is those on welfare are circulating money through the economy. My argument is I am more than capable and willing to circulate MY OWN money through the economy without their help.
Secondly the more you earn doesn't make people buy more things. You can only consume so much food, drive so many cars and watch so many TVs, so people are unlikely to purchase that many more things, but just better quality ones. With less demand for things, less people are needed to produce them which will cause unemployment.
Thirdly, as demand for more luxury items increases, inflation will push up their price meaning your real increase in income is no where near as much as your nominal one would seem like.
Fourthly, the drop in demand for stables will force prices down, causing many people to lose their job or be unable to make a fair living.
Welfare is all about increasing the market size, which in turn creates demand and jobs.

Man, I really didn't think it was true. I really wanted to blame the people for being stupid enough to get loans they couldn't afford. I know banks were taking advantage of a good situation and all, but geez.
Does the new financial controls legislation do enough to keep banks from doing this again?

The reason I dislike SS and Medicare isn't because they're underfunded and the money comes out of general taxation. I dislike that tremendously as well but my primary issue is this: People expect these programs to be there for them when they retire so far too many people have a blase approach to their retirement. We have a serious dearth of saving in this country and a commensurately serious 'live for the moment' attitude. People need to be responsible for their own retirement, their own investments, and stop financing everything on credit. Instead, what we have is a country full of economic morons who can't balance a checkbook because they really don't have to. Get in financial trouble, default, and they can't do shit to you. There's no debtors prison. The bill collectors can call you for the next century and all you have to do is screen your calls and ignore them.
The single biggest reason that people struggle financially in this country isn't the fucking wealth disparity or any other such nonsense. It's because we stopped teaching economics in school in favor of more literature classes. People drop thousands of dollars onto their credit cards without giving it a second thought. Most of them don't even realize that they end up paying for whatever they purchased twice or more times due to interest.
The government stepping in and giving people a helping hand has made them dependent and stupid. Best intentions etc...

Not ignoring it. It is just not something the school should be too concerned with. If she was to be fired in some high profile way, would the story include what college she went to? Probably not. Is she being fired for her lack of ability in her job, or her personal beliefs, which the school should have no say over?JohnG@lt wrote:

She should have been allowed to complete her education. And then be perfectly free to be fired from any school for not doing her job when she refuses counseling to a gay student.
Funding could be an issue here though. This is a public school and probably receives a fair amount of public monies to operate. Should this affect the schools ability to say who can and cannot finish their education? What if a private college (yes, still receive public funding) was to do the same thing?
Most of the time, if not all, a private party or business should be able to discriminate at will. In this case there is public funding, the school should not be able to tell her how to think. Their job is to educate her, not police her thoughts. If she leaves school and gets fired from her job because she is not performing her duties to the standard a business has set as acceptable, so be it.

True this. I really never played console games much, but my brother in-law and his buddy did, a lot. They asked me to join them playing Goldeneye when it came out. I hated every minute of it really. The whole trying to circle strafe and aim with 2 joysticks was driving me crazy. Of course they were both complaining about not being able to hit me. I think the console trains you to think about what is on the screen only. In PC FPS you really are more in tune with everything around you.mtb0minime wrote:
