lol well I suppose if Michael Bay adhered to the rules of physics and "general reality" then he wouldn't have made a movie about giant robot warriors from another planet that transform into cars, huh?CapnNismo wrote:
So I saw the movie last night... better than the 2nd but still not great.
Spoiler (highlight to read):
* Michael Bay needs to learn that when you destroy something, that doesn't mean it's going to catch fire.
* Fire can't burn in space.
* You can't introduce in the third movie spitting and bleeding robots when the previous two haven't had any.
* Robots can't spit.
* Leonard Nimoy's robot saying the line "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few." is cheesy. Don't do it.
* The writers of dialog of these movies should never be allowed to work in show business again.
* You can't name a Ferrari 458 transformer "Dino". The Dino was never a real Ferrari and doesn't even have any Ferrari badges on the original car but rather only Pininfarina and Dino badges.
* Wing suits can't stay in the air that long. They should have splattered across the ground a lot sooner.
* A planet larger than Earth appearing just outside the atmosphere? It would likely destroy Earth because of the larger gravitational effects. The same planet breaking up and its pieces falling on Earth? Yea, that's going to ruin the planet even more.
** Michael Bay needs to take a course in physics and general reality...
Entertaining but the dialog sequences were so cheesy. It's definitely better than the first two movies but not by much...
I don't see how anyone who liked any of the halos would think Reach sucks, its mp is the pinnacle of the series... the most fun and balanced one they've ever created
Unfortunately at my school the free wights are the bottom/basement floor and all the cardio stuff and most of the machines are 1st and 2nd floor so not too many girls venture down to my area. And if they do they are more ripped than mepirana6 wrote:

Yeah that's what I thought too. I thought maybe I could hold the same weight in each hand, but only actually do the reps on one side? I don't know.
You should do both, but I did read an (t-nation? I can't remember the source) article about which chest exercise was most effective. They hooked EKG readers (or whatever they're called, the things that measure the "electrical" energy being used by your muscle) up to a test groups chests and had them do various exercises. The incline bench consistently had the highest readings, meaning theoretically it was pushing the muscle the hardest and causing more opportunity for growth, so you should definitely do at least some incline.11 Bravo wrote:

What do you guys do about muscle imbalances? I'm getting to the point in benching now where my uneven pecs are becoming pretty noticeable. Should I just do like an extra set of db benching, but only on the lagging side? I have the same problem with my calves and biceps, but those are easier to work on their own. I swear the right side of my body weighs like 10 pounds more god damnit
I hate how nowadays you have all these tiny little dudes running around trying to bully kids that are twice their size. No one has ever hit them, so they think they can get away with it. I've noticed it a lot more at college, a lot of privileged pricks who have never been in a fight so they think they can talk shit to anyone. Just hope that someday they talk it to the wrong guy and get knocked the fuck out.
I don't follow. How does this explain that people aren't having kids because they can't afford it? It sounds like you are agreeing with me. We (first world nations) are well enough off that we don't need to worry about high infant mortality rates, meaning we have less children. We also do not have the same economic incentives to have kids, because they can't work until ~18. This is the population equilibrium that I'm talking about. Economic circumstances are a factor, but mainly this is a trend in the evolution of societies.cpt.fass1 wrote:
Because all/most Western Nations are having the same problems, also we know breed out of want and not need to keep the civilization going. In places like the middle east and africa they tend to have more children because they don't have or use birth control and the children have alot less chance of survival.Home wrote:

Well the only reason to worry about the breeding rate is to support the retiring. That's honestly retarded, cause the world and the economy can't really support a constant growth.
P.S. it's common knowledge that most us citizens aren't having kids because we can't afford it(as a people) most people in my generation 34 are on their first child. Unless they're poor, in the army or army wives.
Also, I wouldn't say that's "common knowledge"? All populations grow until they level at a point that is sustainable. That's what's happening now. If it was just because people can't afford to have kids, then why is it happening in most/all Western nations at once?

From wikipedia:Spark wrote:
US's population growth rate + birth rate is fine. One of the few western countries that can say that.
The total fertility rate in the United States estimated for 2009 is 2.01 children per woman, which is below the sub-replacement fertility threshold of 2.10.[8] However, U.S. population growth is among the highest in industrialized countries,[9] since the vast majority of these have below-replacement fertility rates and the U.S. has higher levels of immigration.[10][11] The United States Census Bureau shows population increases ranging between 0.85% and 0.89% for the twelve-month periods ending in 2009.[12] Nonetheless, though high by industrialized country standards, this is below the world average annual rate of 1.19%.[9]
As I said, the US is one of the few Western states that can say that only because of it's high immigration. So saying that we need to get Mexican breeding under control in order to prosper is misguided.Hispanic and Latino Americans accounted for almost half (1.4 million) of the national population growth of 2.9 million between July 1, 2005, and July 1, 2006.[18] Immigrants and their U.S.-born descendants are expected to provide most of the U.S. population gains in the decades ahead.[19]
You realize that the US is one of the only first world countries that has maintained a nearly replacement-rate population growth rate precisely because of those immigrant-breeding-Mexicans? In countries like Japan, their retirement age population significantly outnumbers the working population. All of those Mexicans are going to greatly soften the impact of us having our largest generation to date retire.Dilbert_X wrote:

Looking good so far. Only thing I have to add is that you should try to have a fairly narrow grip on the bar when doing squats rather than a wide one. Like have your forearms in a straight line going up from your elbows to your hands when holding the bar. When you hold it with a wide grip, you'll be more inclined to hold it up with your shoulders, upper back and chest rather than taking all the weight with your legs. And the muscles below your neck (between your neck and shoulder) are the trapezius (more commonly called 'traps'). Anyways, keep up the motivation! And I read earlier that you are trying to lose fat and gain muscle at the same time, which can be hard to do: Just remember that even gaining muscle will make you 'look' thinner, because you will fill out your frame better and proportionally less of your weight will be fat.Jaekus wrote:

Not only that, another thing you need to remember when buying supplements like this is quality in terms of ingredients and unwanted ingredients. Remember that report that came out a little while ago where they found out common brands like Muscle Milk had like 3x the acceptable amount of lead and arsenic? Brands like Optimum Nutrition are ones you can trust. They own the entire process so even the ingredients and production are verified by them, and I believe it's all made in the USA. Not to say that there couldn't be sketchy stuff in there too, but you are at least reducing the chances.
Kind of depends on what you're using it for and how much you want to spend on it. To start, try to get Whey Protein isolate or hydrolysate. Idk if you're trying to buy it locally, online, or what. If online, bodybuilding.com has a pretty good store (but I don't know if that's true for the UK). Optimum Nutrition is a good brand, some people here also reccommend Gaspari Nutrition. You should take it ASAP post-workout. If you have the money, you can take it other times throughout the day too, and there is another kind of protein (casein) that is often used for before you go to bed. But to start, whey protein within an hour of finishing your workout.Mekstizzle wrote:
Long story short, I think it's time for me to hop onto the Protein powder/shake bandwagon. But I'm a complete noob when it comes to this, I know there's plenty of good guides on the internet and I've read some about this, but sometimes it's nice to hear from real people.
So where do I begin with this?

I probably will give it a look.

I agree. Several studies I've read came to the conclusion that for the vast majority of lifters, they would not ever get to the point that split routines would be as effective as full body routines. To a general audience, they recommended full body because 90% of readers would never get to the point that they needed a split. I can't say much about this from personal experience because I haven't been lifting for long enough to be able to say which has worked more effectively for me. But I am inclined to say you should go with whatever your body responds to better, starting with full body and then switching to a split if/when you ever get to that point.Zimmer wrote:
Full body workouts should be done by anybody who's just starting out with workouts. Once you've plateaued with that (you usually do) then you go into concentrating on specific muscle groups each day.Home wrote:

Starting off by doing concentrated workouts will get you nowhere, as your body isn't used to the overall idea of a workout in the first place.

Big boi concert was actually kind of dissapointing. The speakers were turned up so loud that it was just washed out and you couldn't hear the track or the words.
Yeah everyone can lift way more in the smith machine than with free weights.
If you really don't have time for 5 workouts a week, why don't you do a beginner routine? A 3 day a week 5x5 type program? This is more geared for strength than size, but it's a good place to start. Or are you just going for size?

As far as eating, follow Hai's adivce, plus:
Try to eat a lot of protein, it will make you feel fuller so you won't need to eat as much.
Drinking a lot of water can help this too.
For exercise:
Normal cardio (which I'm sure you know how to do)
Or HIIT, which has been proven to be more effective for fat loss. Basically, you sprint for 30-60 seconds and then walk for an equal amount of time on an off for as long as you can (it will probably be less than 10 minutes.)
Just remember that to lose fat, you need to be under maintenance. If 3,000 calories a day keeps you at your current weight, than you need to be getting less than that everyday.

My squat has gone up nearly 100 lbs and my deadlift 30 lbs since I started 5x5s. My bench has only gone up 15 lbs or so.
However I think I finally figured it out today! Widened my grip up, focused on my breathing, and took a 5-6 minute rest (longer than I've ever taken) between sets and ended up not even needing a spot on a weight that I was barely putting up last time. feelsgoodman

Not even worth holding on.
Soreness is also a genetic thing. Some people just generally don't and some people almost always do. For example, if I do legs day and then sit down for a couple hours afterwards my legs get so sore I have trouble walking. It's a family trait. My dad has the same problem with his legs, and he has been bicycling for 10+ years and competes in 100+ mile rides every year.
My squat has been going up steadily on this 5x5 program, which is good especially because they were lagging. However my bench still has not gone up I'm pushing it up next week no matter what.
Yeah, that's stupid. I think it happens a lot more often than it should. Recently in my hometown a pastor was shot and killed by a cop. The cop was in an unmarked car, parked on the pastor's private property, and the pastor came out to investigate with a gun in hand (it's a high crime area and the pastor routinely confronted "prowlers" this way) and the cop shot him. Plus I've seen it about a hundred times on COPSDilbert_X wrote:
