I predicted it would be drum n bass... I grew out of that noise in the 90s. Remember stevie hyper? lol

DDR3 is half the price of what it was a year ago, I'm fine with 4GB but 8 is good for a new rig. You're better off buying 8GB and not maxing out all the slots that way you can still overclock the cpu good if you want. So many people got 16-24GBs either they are all hardcorde CAD designers/video editors or whatever the latest trend is or they think it makes games run faster.
I'm not sure if I'll even be able to afford to upgrade my 4870 so I'm hoping it'll play BF3 on mostly low similar to BF2 at least. Hope it's more optimized then Crysis 2 I can play that ok on low but the controls are so laggy where the framerates aren't really high

A Q6600 should still last a few more years, if you've got that and at least 4GB RAM you'd only need a decent GPU for BF3. Any quad core with at least 3GHz will be able to play any game good. I know the newer ones are still faster clock for clock but for games it doesn't really make a difference for framerates.
If I had a Q6600 instead of upgrading CPU/mobo/ram I'd spend it all on top of the range GPU

When it's chugging can you hear the hard drive going mad? Disable the auto defrag- that's the first thing I'd do, make sure no other programs in background like AV are chugging the hard drive too. Def sounds like a disk problem to me
Get an NZXT Phantom it's lush
The way I think of it is you're probably gona have to turn shadows and lighting etc down anyway just like BF2 if you wana be able to see stuff properly so I'm not gona spend out loads on a new rig.
Yea, I'm banned from their Dragon Valley server for spotting too many enemies- I weren't even spamming
If there's a wait in line rule and someone barges in I will TK, if they start planting C4 I will TK them regardless
Exactly, if an LMG in real life has the same deviation as an assault rifle/smg (idk I've never shot a gun) it doesn't mean anything in terms of a game. Obviously they weight more which is why people who rush in carry lighter guns in real life, but in a game you haven't got to physically hold the gun it's common sense that the guns should be like BF2's in BF3- they are balanced nicely I think.
I think LMG people should move slower AND have more deviation

MarkC fix doesn't do anything at all if you uncheck enhance pointer precision, it only affects rare old games that enable enhance pointer precision while playing. The jumpy mouse is just a BF2 thing where you move it fast it loses tracking- notice it doesn't do it on any other games? Could be something to do with BF2's grid aiming system. Windows 7 mouse is always slightly laggy anyway- no fix for it.
Best mouse is XP with Anir's fix it's perfect, but still skips on BF2.
I play with 400dpi and 0.2 sens and it's more noticeable with a lower sens because you have to move the mouse more, so you could play with higher sens and you won't have that tracking issue, but you will lose accuracy because of high sens- so you'll have to deal with it.

I think Kubra is a good map, good for snipers and for vehicles. Apart from Songuha Stalemate (the foggy map) I think all the maps in BF2 are decent. My 2 faves are Fu She Pass and Road Rage, I love Fu She because of how big it is- is that why no one hosts it? No one hosts/hosted Road Rage either lol
I want bridgetoofar from the 360 BF2
It looks interesting, as long as there's no options to buy all the unlocks etc with a credit card or anything like that.
Is this a browser based game?
Is this a browser based game?
For now- if anyone's interested
PC version plays good with the 360 pad, I find all of the boss people really hard and one mission where you have to fight 2 girls with swords in a nightclub I couldn't beat them lol so I failed now I'm just leveling up loads and gona restart story with all my unlocks etc.
Def gonna buy it though for the co-op mode
My fav weapon has got to be the light saber (mix flashlight with gems) it's cool

I think BF3 would be cool if they included civilians in multiplayer games, and if anyone kills you they get neg points, but you can still kill people with stones and punches.
Basically like a normal Battlefield version of PR civilians. Maybe I don't know if that would work out or not lol

The problem you are getting where it says "error reading from server" - everyone is getting it
Everyone's getting this problem, go on the EA forums every thread is about error reading from server and no unlocks. It's been like it for a few days and still not fixed hope it's fixed soon.
I get booted back to the login screen every time I press escape or when the round ends. You can't log back in either it will freeze when a map loads saying "optimizing shaders"
You have to exit the game then start it again for it to work. Something to do with the main servers

Well it's all over the EA forums about the unlocks and connection errors, hope it's fixed soon.
I don't care about any unlocks except the sniper ones- I'd like to choose a bolt action over an SVD or Type88- they're probably the major ones

Ok I just checked on a website and apparently Gamespy are migrating services or something and it affects the ranking system of BF2 and 2142, but that was 2 days ago- that's probably it, not sure if it's causing the logging out error though- anyone else getting that if they still play BF2?
Ah least the error problem isn't just me then, I only reinstalled BF2 few days ago and thought it was something to do with an nlite install I made for itvenom6 wrote:
Same here! I had private rank and if i leave the server i got dropped from my account! I have no idea what are they doing!
I've been having the same problem last couple days, on every server I've played on (including my regular servers) everyones a private and got stock weapons.
And every time the server ends I get error reading from the server message- I think the error reading from server one is me though because everyone else is still in when it happens to me.
I tried to log in the other day and the BF2 servers were down for maintenance, maybe it's something to do with that- maybe they are fucked for good

Uninstall it all
You don't need to run anything as admin
Install BF2 (don't touch it), restart
Install 1.41, restart
Install 1.5, restart
Play BF2- it works fine for me I only re-installed it yesterday

Lasers track on more surfaces but opticals track better on mouse pads (and most lasers give negative acceleration). A lot of pro quake gamers use either MX518 or Microsoft WMO they're both optical and they're both got pretty much no features compared to newer mice, doesn't mean they're worse (WMO looks like a complete noobs mouse).
If anything the newer mice are worse they concentrate on cool new features (e.g. more dpi) and extra buttons rather than a decent tracking sensor it's just gimmicks to make people want to buy them.
If you are a high sens player than it doesn't really matter much most mice will be pretty good but on low sens you need low dpi (400 minimum) and good tracking otherwise it will skip- and that's not good lol

MX518 is optical, MX518 sensor tracks better than any laser mouse out when set to 1000hz. And optical>laser (I'm no fanboy I use a G9 myself)
The 518 has angle snapping, you can't disable it at all.
The G9x has angle snapping too (it's called "mouse prediction" as well) and you can disable it in Setpoint, basically if you slide the mouse in a horizontal line it attempts to straighten it out- like I said that can make you either hit more, or less, it depends what you're used to.
Google it or something before you try to make me sound stupid lol and btw DPI means nothing at all in terms of accuracy- it's just hardware based sensitivity and if you don't find something like 1800dpi enough then I'd say you're playing way too high sens because super high dpi is marketting hype, as long as you are above 400dpi you will have good tracking. The higher your dpi the more negative accel you'll get too.
Only thing something like 6000dpi is good for is if you have a massive monitor(s) and you're finding the cursor too slow round Windows

Try deleting the video folder from my documents profiles, if that don't work try moving the whole profiles folder then move the all the files back and redo video settings manually.
I see you're using Nvidia so this won't apply but could be something similar- I use ATI tray tools and if OSD (the fps counter) is on BF2 won't open at all, it goes to open then does nothing so make sure you haven't got anything similar running to rule it out.
Edit- ah you don't need AF and the other expansion it comes with 1.5. No point installing SF either no one plays it

MX518 is supposed to be the best mouse for tracking but it's got a feature you can't disable called angle snapping where if you slide the mouse from left/right or right/left it moves it in a perfectly straight line- could be good or bad for some people
Multi platform doesn't always mean it's gona be a console port, I doubt they'd fuck up the PC version of BF3 they know how much we all like BF2, COD is multi platform and the PC version plays fine
Q- does lower graphics make it easier like BF2? That's all I'd be able to play it on
What about the Optimus Maximus lol
I reckon BF3 will be better than BF2, why wouldn't it? Bad Company is a different series in itself so I wouldn't judge the next BF game by how BC2 is.
I couldn't care less about blowing up buildings or shiny graphics, the end result is always worse gameplay.
In BF2 I either fly a jet or go as a sniper, I can always switch between either and never be bored with those 2 alone. Shame BF2 is getting less and less players in the servers now and I don't understand why, I've never played a game anywhere near close to it for enjoyment and lifespan- just because it's 5 years old shouldn't mean move on to other games for the sake of it being old.
Most of the people I've heard of playing BC2 actually prefer BF2, but they won't ever go back to it again. People should keep playing and keep the servers going it's a classic game, best game ever made imo
Games like Quake 3 haven't lost much population at all and that's well old, don't see why BF2's almost completely dead- it has an ever higher learning curve than Quake if you want to be good in vehicles and as inf, and you don't need to spend hundreds/thousands on a new rig to play them either.
Apart from BF3 (which will hopefully be BF2 with better graphics and more stuff) I can't see much of a good future for FPS games, they're running out of ideas and the gameplay will always get worse as they over complicate things trying to impress people, I like a mix of realism and fun that's why I like BF2, you can just aim and shoot and do whatever you like.
Adding things like sniper scope sway/hold breath is pointless realism- things like that wouldn't even happen in real life and make games slow and frustrating, especially if it's a new game and you can barely manage 60fps, then you got to fork out for an expensive new rig just to play it at a comfortable framerate.
Then you realise all these "impressive" new features quickly grow old and you're only focusing on the old skool style of quick and skilled play.

Linux Mint is the best one I tried (in 64-bit) it's got a good GUI and lots of decent programs built in and it's easy to get into.
I think the good thing about Linux is the driver support is good you don't normally have to install anything at all, except graphics drivers.
It's sort of getting there for the "just works" thing, I think Mint is the closest yet to a Linux that seems similar to Windows (a bit) but it's still Linux, you will always have to learn/look up pretty complicated commands to do simple things

I used to use DDWRT years ago but been using Tomato since then- I'd say it's a lot better and better interface on it, and it has bandwidth graphs for how much people on the network are using.
I'm still using an old Linksys WRT54G and if you only want a wired connection you don't need anything else, any router will do for wired- newer routers won't do anything at all different except add support for faster wireless types.
I'd go for a Linksys if I was getting a new one, they're one of the best network brands in the world, and I think they look better than other brands as well

Of course Linux is the kernel, but every distribution is basically the same, has the same basic kernel just different GUI/features built in etc so I'd say Linux is an OS, it's just a generalized word for any distribution
Whatever way- it operates your system, even if you made your own Linux version it would still be called Linux

I voted for Windows- games and every program you will need.
Linux is good, neat and fast, and has plus sides like EXT3 and 4 file system doesn't fragment as much as NTFS, plus hardly any viruses exist.
Thing with Linux is that Wine sucks, and the programs that are native for Linux mostly all suck compared to Windows programs. And obviously you can't play any decent games on it.
For a general OS, gaming aside, Linux is better if you have learned it all, but 99% of people are used to Windows and have spent time learning that.
If games never existed I'd rather have spent years learning Linux rather than Windows, but it don't matter to me I'm a home user and my Windows is set up just as secure as any Linux OS anyway.
Linux is best for servers IMO as it's free and you can customize it to run how you like, plus the virus/fragment benefits, it's perfect for servers- but for home users it's not really needed at all unless you really want a free OS, or just to say you're cool lol even though nowadays anyone can "use" Linux compared to the old days, it's easier than Windows for basic things, but it relies too much on the terminal to do anything useful on it, and there are people who have been using Linux for 20-30 years and still don't know it all.
In this day and age if you're thinking about just moving to Linux now (as a home user) I wouldn't lol because you won't accomplish anything that Windows can't already

I haven't read up on new CPU's for a while now, last time I looked was an article on overclocking the Gulftown and they called it the i9, unless it changed name it was few months ago I last looked.
Edit- yea it's still i7, was just a rumor that the next architecture would be i9

One of the cleanest I've seen, I'd avoid neons at all costs looks smart without them all they do is make an expensive PC look tacky, bit like putting some neons on an old Ford Fiesta lolGC_PaNzerFIN wrote:

Not all time servers have "time" in their name, hardly any do actually. It normally says in the server description.
But in this day and age where not many people play BF2, sitting in vehicles for hours while you're afk for a pointless rank is annoying, because if they was to actually play the game there would be more players in proper servers. Same with stat padding servers (where they just kill enemy, enemy revives, etc etc to get a load of kills/points) it's almost as though they think people will look at their 200 k/d ratio and think they are actually skilled, I've never stat padded but looking at people doing it it must be boring as hell, complete waste of servers and players

I have trouble finding nice servers on normal BF2, see a populated Gulf of Oman server- it's a Bmw time server, populated Dalian server, same Bmw, almost all the populated ones are time servers and their "clans" lol except for a handful of well known ones like Super@ etc
I find it almost as fun going in and fucking them all up on time servers as it is playing normally, you know if it's like 8 hours left you just essex the jets off the carrier and they'll come back to their comp raging thinking no one could kill them.
I make sure I tk them all on both sides before I leave, it sometimes takes quite a bit of skill as FF is off

Like I said, it makes no sense to get a 4890 at your res anyway, plus it's dearer. All I was saying is that out of the 2 the 4890 is the better card.
Get a 5750 or 5770, either or. If you have extra £10 or whatever currency you use spare then get the 5770 for the slight extra fps, if you're really struggling on budget get 5750 they're pretty much the same card anyway.
Also jaekus games can be CPU limited, especially games like BC2 but if you've got a bad GPU it doesn't matter how good your CPU is you're going to get bad fps.
CPU limited basically means if you've already got a good GPU, which you haven't (it doesn;t mean the game depends on the CPU for good fps, you can't get away with a good CPU and bad GPU)- look at games like COD4 that aren't CPU limited at all, you could play COD4 on a bottom of the range CPU and have exactly the same fps as someone with a top of the range CPU (if you had same graphics card) but if you added better graphics card fps just goes up and up. CPU limited is bit more complicated but all you need for the moment to play pretty much any game is a quad core with decent clock rate.
To sum up again, get the 5750 or 5770 at your resolution.
