No, I'd only be happy if it caused a complete global economic melt down. A good old fashioned panic and burning on a global scale. When it all comes to an end, 5/6ths of the worlds population has gone and killed themelves. Then I'd be happy. Since you asked.ghettoperson wrote:

Exactly, this is real life, not the movies, going to the police is no guarantee of a happy ending, it's no guarantee of anything. Police are, *gasp!!!* human! No way for them to confirm or refute her claims without a lengthy and time consuming investigation. During that period of time, seeing as that man would yet to have been charged, and the case against him hinging on the testimony of a single minor which he had already shown willingness to dominate and abuse, how can you seriously believe he wouldn't simply remove what he sees as his property from the picture? Trade her life, a life he had already to a greater or lesser extent destroyed, for his own. This is very simple. In extreme situations, such as this, going to the police is not a viable solution. Occassionally, even in this era of people too pampered and self righteous to consider sullying their precious hands with something as pedestrian as self defense, occassionally, you have to do things for yourself. Bravo to her, she got herself out of a horrible situation, and removed a parasite in the process. She deserves recognition and honor, not a prison sentence.
Tired it, didn't like it. I watched friends move from weed to coke to meth in a remarkably short time, and loose everything they had. If you smoke, smoke, just don't let it dominate your exsistence. An for shits sake don't try to tell me it's even remotely good for you. NOTHING ignited and sucked into your lungs is healthy.
Ok, since this has moved into taxation, I have two ideas I believe would solve the issue, neither are of course original to me. First, a flat, 10% income tax. No lobbyists, no tax breaks, no exemptions, no nothing. If you make 10 dollars a year, 1 goes to the fed, if you make a million, 100,000 goes to the fed. If you live and work in this country, you help to support it through payment of taxes. Second, mirror the trade relations of the nations we import from. If nation x imposes a 35% tariff on our exports, impose a tariff of the exact same amount on imports from nation x. If nation y doesn't tax our goods, don't tax theirs. Again, no loop holes, no end runs, no "preferred nation status". Level the playing field, on both the home and multi national stages.
People using their silly little conspiracy theories to gather attention to themselves on what should be a day of rememberance and mourning, seriously, grow up. Give me twenty minutes and photo shop and I could provide "irrefutable proof" that not only was Bob Sagget responsible for 9/11, he also faked the moon landings and started the crusades as well as the holocaust. Remember folks, just cause some second rate nut job on youtube says it's true, don't make it so.
Hmm, all these recent tales of human corruption and just plain hardcore fail make me nostalgic for Babylonian justice....would be interesting if those principles were instituted today.

If Hitler was gone then Stalin would have invaded Germany, however this action would cause the rest of Europe to unite in Germany's defense. And without Hitler's anti-Jewish initiatives Einstein would have been able to work throughout the 30's and 40's to develop time manipulation technology that would enable the Allies to strike back at Stalin and win the war. However this would cause the defeated Soviet Union to covertly build up their military and technology, allowing them to invade the United States. However once again Allied determination and technology would prevail, and the Soviets defeated. With their nation crumbling, a small group of Soviet military commanders and scientists used their pwn secret time machine to travel back in time to eliminate Einstein. With Einstein and Hitler out of the picture, Stalin would have stalemated Germany however the Allies and Soviets would again re-enter an arms/tech race for a few years before the Soviets would strike first, and make it all the way to France. However with a large corporation of scientists carrying on the work of the now missing Einstein, many defected to the Japanese who were creating their pwn army, which would simultaneously strike at both the Western Allies and the Soviet Union
This has been discussed many times before and the previous paragraph is the generally accepted answer to the whole "what if no hitler?" debate.
I'd have to disagree, the British and Soviets fought like hell, but without the lend lease program and endless convoys of supplies from the US, I don't believe they could of held out indefinatly, folks seem to forget that at the end of the war, the Soviets were using almost as many American and British manufactured vehicles and tanks as they were home made variants. Without Britian, D-Day never would of happened, as it would've had no setting off point, without the Soviets, the full brunt of the German war machine would have overwhelmed North Africa and eventually, England.presidentsheep wrote:

This is true, but what you've got to remember, this is D&ST, once your opponent has to resort to personal attacks, against you or the source, as opposed to the validity of the information, it means they no longer have the ability to debate in a logical fashion, in other worlds, you've won.lowing wrote:

Nothing to see here folks, move along.
Liberals can not argue truth, that is why mis-direction is a must in all liberal debate tactics. Toe to toe, they do not stand a chance because to defend their own bullshit is impossible, so calling you a racist, or attack your source as bias or screaming about generaliziations is all they really have.
This seems a logical middle ground. If guilt can be proved with an excess of evidence, there is no good reason the sentence shouldn't be carried out as quickly and efficiently as possible, i.e., a single bullet. Also, who has proved that capital punishment doesn't work as a deterrent in the American judicial system? I have heard of no such proof.krazed wrote:
my biggest problem with the death penalty is the inaccuracy of a lot of court cases.
it should only be used in cases of 100% guilt i.e. caught on camera, 3+ credible witnesses + evidence etc.it would be effective if it was used more... but like i said, FAR too many people get put away when they're innocent for me to be able to support the death penaltyTy wrote:
It's been proven that the punishment is never a deterrant. The deterrant is the chance of being caught.
Capital punishment is more trouble than it's worth. The amount of incorrect verdicts that go through courts not just in America but worldwide means that yeah, multiple appeals are needed. I'm sure if you were sentanced to death for a crime you didn't do you'd want more than one flip of the coin.
This is, unfortunatly, true. We need to expedite the process, I say allow them one appeal, if they are still found guilty, send em to the squad. No fuss, no overly long prison sentences, no prison over crowding, and I guarantee it would serve as a deterent.Ty wrote:
Okay this thread isn't really about capital punishment but I feel I do have to say this:
Capital punishment keeps the cost down, are you fucking mad? You think that the appeals upon appeals for death row inmates doesn't cost a shitload of money? Not to mention that most of the time a death row inmate is in prison for years and years and years before their sentance is carried out. You know what the leading cause of death in death row inmates is? Old age!
Exactly. And in this day and age, keeping the costs down should be of primary concern. Imagine the savings if everyone serving life sentences were simply sat in front of a firing squad.
California dosen't do capital punishment anymore, but send em over the border to Nevada, we still have to suffer with all the smoke an will happily needle em.
There is a big difference. One person was assaulted the other was not. There's a big difference between punching you in the face, and booing you off stage, are you really trying to say these two events are similar? I quite clearly stated that NEITHER event was "okay just because the other was worse", but one event clearly is worse. Don't try to claim I said something I didn't, my exact words were, "Both events are unfortunate, but only one ended in a physical assault."Poseidon wrote:

I believe abortion should only be applicable under extreme circumstances, this being one of them, although even in this situation, birth and than adoption would be preferable. I don't believe it's the governments place to regulate this one way or the other, either to outlaw the act or to support or validate it in any way shape or form. It simply isn't the governments right to dictate on this issue, or many others they seem so found of forcing their involvement in.
Yeah, that seems about par for the course. It's disgusting, but not really shocking any more, not coming from those people. Just a matter of time till they kill someone for daring to speak out against the messiah.

A washcloth, toothpaste, soap, shampoo
A copy of the Koran
Prisoners are served three meals a day - all "culturally appropriate":
Breakfast - typically bread, cream cheese, an orange, a pastry, a roll, a bottle of water
Lunch - typically a box of cereal, two cereal bars, a packet of peanuts, one packet crisps, one packet raisins, a bottle of water
Evening meal - typically white rice, red beans, a banana, bread, a bottle of water.
The detainees' daily routine:
Breakfast followed by shower opportunity and personal time
Doctor visits to address any medical issues
Lunch followed by shower opportunity and personal time
Exercise period
Mail call - pens and paper are provided for limited time, letters may be written under supervision, all pens are collected afterwards
Dinner followed by shower opportunity
Suicide Pact
The detainees at Gitmo have distinct pads and envelopes that are set aside for attorney/client communication and the guards aren't allowed to read anything written on that paper or put in those envelopes?
