The retired Westchester cop who gunned down his teenage daughters and killed himself made sure that his wife and surviving child would be left destitute by his death, The Post has learned.
Glen Hochman, who spent 22 years as a While Plains officer, filed retirement papers on Jan. 30 — about three weeks before the bloodbath — that intentionally left them out, sources said.

American ambassador in Korea was pushed over and stabbed twice by a 60 something year old man. He probably would be dead if it was easy to get guns in Korea.

I can own guns. I don't want to give up my fingerprints though.

I just really hate the Rambo, stand your ground, defend against tyranny, red dawn culture in the U.S. I am fine with them beyond that.

And yet he fired into a country music festival. Maybe he was still mad about having to settle in arbitration vs. a casino, and decided to take it out on people having fun in Vegas. Pure supposition until we have some data on his motive.

So are we going to ban bump stocks or are we going to have to worry about air assaults at concerts from now like that is just part of living in America?

I did see that comment somewhere yesterday of "Can't we wait for the details to come out before we talk about gun control?" as if their precious guns were ever under threat by any of the previous talks.

I think we can all agree that the writers of the constitution fully intended that mentally ill teenagers should be able to obtain assault rifles with no let or hindrance.

People who think teachers need to have guns in schools are retarded. It is grating to even broach the discussion.

It's an election year, yeah? There are a good number of people that jump whenever there is a tragedy like this to advance their own agenda. They try to capitalize on heightened emotion to ram it through. Their bodies weren't even cold when the same ambulance chasers were saying the same things they always do. "We need common sense gun control". "We need to ban assault weapons". "We need to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill". Thanks for contributing, assholes.

What we need is rational debate, not emotional responses to tragedy and trying to score political points.

At the end of the day, in my opinion, there really isn't a whole lot that can be done. There is evil in this world. There are bad parents that raise bad children who grow up with hate in their heart. There are also good parents who try their best but end up with bad kids anyway. A tragedy here, a nudge there, and peoples lives spin out of control. When you sprinkle nihilism on top of it and a chance at infamy, you get crap like this.

Our culture is fucked up. The way we treat our kids like cattle in schools is fucked up. Our media is very fucked up. The constant doom and gloom and nihilism and cynicism is fucked up. At the end of the day the focus should be on why people would want to commit mass murder, not on the tools they used to do it (though that discussion should happen as well). It requires self-reflection as a society, and is much more difficult than jumping on the knee-jerk "ban all guns!!!!" bandwagon. And yes, at the end of the day, the answer might truly be that there are indeed evil people in this world and there isn't a whole lot we can do to thwart them. That is difficult to accept, which is why we spend so much time looking for easy solutions after every event like this, most of which would do nothing.

Are you still mad? If you want to talk statistics, then no, mass shootings are not statistically significant. They are, like plane crashes, rare, which is why they are big news and such emotional topics.

The number of such incidents has stayed relatively static over time, the big difference is that the body counts have increased. It probably is too easy to get an AR-15, and it is too easy to get a mass load of magazines. The weapon facilitates these crimes for the same reasons the military chose it. It's light, accurate, and the ammo is not unbearably heavy to carry around. Does your average homeowner need one? No. But there are already between 5 and 10 million of them floating around in the US. Pandora is long gone.

But my original point was that even if you do ban semi-automatic rifles like this, you're still not dealing with the underlying issues that cause a person like this to want to hurt others. By all accounts, he was a broken individual. Maybe this whole have lunch with someone who's sitting alone trend will be the answer. Maybe it will be something else. Maybe there is no solution. Neither you nor I have the answers.

I really do feel like the entertainment and media industries are at least partially to blame for stuff like this. The shooter is getting more personal attention now than he likely ever would've received for a good deed. His name will be on the internet forever. They will write books about him. He will have his own Wikipedia page. There will be TV mini-series. And because we have a fucked up society, he will likely become a cult hero for some perverse section of the population - like Charles Manson and his fan clubs.

Just ban the production and importation of semi-automatic rifles over 9mm. Anyone who owns one can keep it and the sale of second hand rifles would still be legal. Have gun buybacks for the rifles. That combined with attrition and the high cost of the second hand rifles will go a long way to preventing dollar store employees from shooting up schools.

How many more deaths does it take before gun control is enacted? How long should you keep waiting and kick the can down the road?

Australia hasn't had a mass shooting since 1996. We enacted gun legislation that bans certain kinds of guns such as automatic and semi automatic rifles and shotguns after the Port Athur massacre.

Our PM made it his priority to change the law 2 days after the tragic event. And it worked.

To say well the bodies aren't even cold yet is such a stupid argument. By the time they are cold the US will have had another mass shooting.

Nothing changed after Sandy Hook. Nothing is going to change now. Unless you vote for it.
