Yes, the borders from one African country with crappy hygiene and medical services to another, you dunce.
That means that an infected person can't just walk across the border to visit friends and relatives.

There is absolutely nothing against bringing someone to the USA under proper quarantine conditions.
Bringing someone out of a quarantine zone under any conditions breaks the quarantine, and increases the risk for those in the country they're brought to.
How the hell do you think that the Ebola virus is handled in all the research facilities across the world?
Not by shipping in sick people.

But anyway, the Ebola virus apparently is transmitted by fruitbats.
Pretty hard to shut down the border or enforce quarantine for those.
They can't fly between continents, as long as its not brought in by importing sick dinguses we should be OK.

If we made eliminating the fruit bats a priority, future outbreaks can be prevented. Trying to extinct fruit bats is a big no no of course. I wonder how the people who want to save the fruit bats would feel about destroying mosquitoes colonies.

As long as people don't butcher and eat fruitbats there's next to no chance of their diseases affecting people.

Mosquitoes do bother humans and are a wider problem for many people.

We should use DDT again. The World Health Organization agrees

http://www.who.int/mediacentre/news/rel … 6/pr50/en/
Nearly thirty years after phasing out the widespread use of indoor spraying with DDT and other insecticides to control malaria, the World Health Organization (WHO) today announced that this intervention will once again play a major role in its efforts to fight the disease. WHO is now recommending the use of indoor residual spraying (IRS) not only in epidemic areas but also in areas with constant and high malaria transmission, including throughout Africa.
World Health Organization. Not some right wing group.
Each year, more than 500 million people suffer from acute malaria, resulting in more than 1 million deaths. At least 86 percent of these deaths are in sub-Saharan Africa. Globally an estimated 3,000 children and infants die from malaria every day and 10,000 pregnant women die from malaria in Africa every year. Malaria disproportionately affects poor people, with almost 60 percent of malaria cases occurring among the poorest 20 percent of the world’s population.
Those lives of course don't mean much. Not surprising since there is a strong link between environmentalism and racism.

it was dumb for a lot of countries to stop using DDT... It's the number one killer of malaria by killing mosquitoes. some environmentalists are just dumb.

DDT doesn't just kill mosquitoes. It would make more sense to vaccinate people, so they have no chance of contracting the disease, instead of spraying a shitload of DDT everywhere and people are still at risk, albeit diminished.

There's no universal vaccine for malaria, that's the problem.

A patient being treated at a Dallas hospital is the first person diagnosed with Ebola in the United States, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Tuesday.
The person, whose identity was not released, left Liberia on September 19 and arrived in the United States on September 20, said Dr. Thomas Frieden, director of the CDC.
At that time, the person did not have symptoms. "But four or five days later," that person began to show symptoms, Frieden said. The person was hospitalized and isolated Sunday at a hospital in Texas.

Oh wow! Look! I was right about ebola. We should have a travel ban on people from sub-Sahara west Africa.

I bet you are all eating crow right now which is not something I would recommend because that is how you get ebola.

Thread lolgic -

DDT banning was bad because it stops Malaria
->

We don't have a malaria problem in the US, so banning of DDT re: eradication of malaria is not relevant to US
->

Florida had minimal cases up to the 1940's when it was virtually eradicated (DDT was banned in the US in the 1970's).

You were right about what?  Our medical facilities are well-equipped to deal with Ebola.  It's not like our medical clinics consist of prefab tents where water and sanitary conditions are in question.  You just post shit for knee-jerk reactions and to point and laugh at people.  It's like a 15 year old wearing a provocative shirt to school just to see what happens.

The first person to be diagnosed with Ebola on American soil went to the emergency room last week, but was released from the hospital even though he told staff he had traveled from Liberia.
"A travel history was taken, but it wasn't communicated to the people who were making the decision. ... It was a mistake. They dropped the ball," said Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

Bullshit. I am vaccinated against Yellow Fever. I have a little booklet from the doctor to prove it.
