The Soviet Union was an empire built by decades of human rights violations. Containing and dismantling it saved countless lives throughout Eastern Europe and Asia. I think you are forgetting what we were stopping there.KEN-JENNINGS wrote:

If you're into using 20th century examples, look at how we treated Japanese-American citizens during WW2. Look at the fucking civil rights movement! Use Native American. Indian isn't the proper terminology. They don't count anyway. What was started against them predated the U.S. and the worst of it happened in the early 19th century. We have compensated their descendants handsomely. Russia is still removing Muslims from their land in the Caucasus.
We compensated and apologized to the Japanese. We vowed we would never do such a thing again. Russia has never apologized to the former Soviet states and has obviously shown that it does not want to ever make amends.
I don't have the patience to go through all your other examples. I am often one of the most vocal critics of the U.S. I don't deny we have made some mistakes. But I can say that Russia is objectively worse than us when it comes to human rights.
If it was 1939 and you were alive, I bet you would bring up segregation whenever someone complains about Nazi treatment of the Jews. People like you enable dictators. Putin has to be stopped now. Complaining about America's past isn't going to stop the Ukrainian insurgency.

We spent large amounts of money and lives to try and build functioning democracies that respected human rights. The constitution of Iraq is the most progressive in the entire middle east besides Israel and Turkey. We had success nation building in other places like Germany and Japan. Have we exploited them long-term or have they fought with us since? No, we haven't. Our failure in Iraq and Afghanistan is the fault of the people in those places and not because of any I'll intent on our part. What good is Russia doing in Ukraine or Chechnya?
I can focus on multiple things at once. Our country should be able to give equal attention to our own politics while keeping up our responsibility and commitment to human rights and democracy.
