Searching here is constantly complained about. Slow, sucky, bad results, etc.
Fix'd
BF2S forums are now running Sphinx -- a super kick ass, dedicated searching system. And it's blazing fast -- no more "please wait while we forward you to the results" screens. Just results, now.

Here's a fun search to get you started off on the things this can do better:

Find replies quoting chuyskywalker, newest first
Also, Sphinx supports some intensely advanced querying options which you can use to get very detailed results.
Finally, there is no pagination -- this is intended. Most people who don't find what they want on page 1, usually just change their search terms -- this is now setup to work in the flow very nicely by keeping the search form on the results page.

I'd often search for something I know I had posted only to have no results return.
I especially like the Extended query syntax to include searching with "AND" "NOT" "OR" etc.
Plus it looks simple too.
edit: oh cool the results are displayed right underneath it!

I think I even made a video once of how to search (being sarcastic).
90 percent of my searches are me searching something I posted earlier. .. for referencing in another topic. I'm my own favorite fan.

It never really worked though, nothing worked in Search. Well for me it didn't. None of the parameters would do as they were told. Even the actual words you asked for it to search for wouldn't work properly.

Sometime this week when I get a change to work on it. The old "search.php" has to stick around still since it does stuff like "new posts" etc.
