I'm hoping to buy a new system soon, and I wanted to get some more opinions on the parts before buying.  I don't want to spend much more than $1000-$1200.  Suggestions / comments would be greatly appreciated.

Change the processor to E8400 otherwise it looks fine. And get 1066mhz or faster memory.

No real need to get the KO edition of the gfx card, you can just OC it yourself

Also samsung spinpoints are a slightly better drive if you can get them for the same price, and isn't 700w a lot of power for one GTS?

I believe eVGA's video step-up program only applies to their factory default cards.

Dunno if his mobo supports it though

Is there a difference between KO and non-KO other than clock speeds? If there isn't surely he can rivatuner a cheaper card up to KO speeds

Thanks for the replies....
I was thinking of swapping the mobo with one that can support SLI, thus the 700W PSU.  I chose the KO because the normal GTS actually costs more on newegg, and it'll save me (technically my friend) the hassle of OCing it.  I'll consider the E8400, and if you can suggest memory in the same price range / amount that's faster that would be great.

I'm not exaclty a computer wiz, so my friend picked the parts out for me.  He's going to put it together, OC the CPU, and so on......

Also if you can suggest an SLI mobo in the same price range, I'd appreciate it.

They would have you believe that factory overclocked parts are better because they stood up to the higher frequencies while the others didnt (hence standard clock), but, chances are if you buy a stock you wont ever have a failure due to the OC.  That isnt to say it wont fail, but, it's not that likely to be down purely to the overclock (less u go friggen nuts).

If the OC is cheaper then, yea sure get it.

Have a look at 750i motherboards, for me, 780i are to expensive for what they are, and 790 is just out of the question.  Think evga are calling theres the FTW, sooooo, have a look for that, should be a good part and will give your your SLI support.

I would wait, or go for a Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600

750i FTW board it is, $50 more but for the SLI capability that's fine.  I might not even SLI it for some time though, I don't exactly have a huge amount of money to spend.

I'll consider the Q6600 instead of the 6750.  I'll just have to talk to my friend who's building it and see what he thinks (no offense but i trust his opinions more than yours )

What are you using the PC for? If it's gaming you'll get more performance from an e8xxx cpu. Low end quads are for video encoding and the like. Heck even the e6xxx cpus gives better gaming performance than a lowend quad and it'll cost you less too.

Just talked to my friend.........

He told me to get a 680i board because apparently the 80 boards (680, 780, etc) are the only good ones.  His words not mine.

He also said that the Q6600 wasn't necassary for what I do, and that he was planning on the E8400 but found out that newegg didn't have them in stock.

the evga 750i FTW is a nice board

What's the difference with the nForce 780 you aks ? Well, the third SLI PCIe connecter, one Ethernet connector. EPP BIOS and a four SATA port castration. But really ... that's roughly it man. Oh and it's roughly 100 bucks cheaper, which never sucks.
I agree that a quad is overkill for just gaming. The e8400 is a terrific CPU, but if you can't get one the e6x50's are also nice (make sure to get one with a 50 on the end, it's a new stepping, i.e. version and will run cooler and overclock better)

Besides 650i has been proved to be able to utilize 2x8800GTX without any performance loss compared to 680i.

Well I'd go with the 650i, but I don't know what brands are dependable / have good service in case I need help with something.  If you can suggest a brand for the 650i, then I'll look into that instead of the 680.

Max- Newegg unfortunately doesn't have any E8400 in stock, so I'll go with the 6750.

Also, no one said anything about the case.  Is the case I chose good?  Are there any known problems with it?  Does anyone on here have it?

Thanks again,

XFX, EVGA, Asus, Gigabyte. Don't know if they all have 750i based boards thought

Will look and see which of them have the board.  Any of them better than the rest?  Or do they all have around the same quality?

I've had bad experiences with MSI. Quality is great on the rest of them, although the feature set may be slightly different on the boards. Asus tends to add some fancy cooling and diagnostic leds. XFX & EVGA use the reference design by nvidia.

Also should i assume that an SLI mobo for $50 isn't as good as it seems to be?
