First off, I hate the word Epic used inappropriately. I only use it when it truly is deserved. And the other night, I had an amazing game of Dawn of War - Dark Crusade with some friends. Here's how it was:
Me and my two friends, Mike and Davy (Mike is a BF2s guy, XanKrieger) have been playing Dawn of War online together for a couple of weeks and been having a lot of fun doing so. But we needed more... So we download a new map. The map in question was called Bunker 149:
Basically, sides 1, 2 and 3 have a fort, with one main corridor into it in which they must defend. We set the game out as follows:
Player 1 - Me - Tau
Player 2 - Mike - Space Marines
Player 3 - Davy - Eldar
Players 4 to 8 - Orks
We knew we couldn't win, but aimed to hold out for 30 minutes, and then an hour.
We set the difficulty up to "Harder" (second to hardest difficulty out of a possible of 5), got our tactics sorted and let the game begin.
Wow.
It was probably the best game I've ever had from any game in ages.
I built up a few Tau Fire Warriors at first and sent them to the front lines, and within minutes we were under attack. At first I was managing holding them back on my own, but then they just kept amassing and coming at me.
My friends were teching up, and eventually managed to put some men on the front to support me completely. Within the first 15 minutes I had as many Fire Warriors on the front lines as possible and were holding the orks back. With Missiles flying in from the sides, we had the perfect set-up, and no ork got too close to us.
Then, I started to bring in the Skyrays, which is just like this:
And they do damage equivalent to this:
At first...
As the game went on, the Orks got harder and harder to keep back. They started getting long range units in to attack our guys on the walls, and also managed to get their best, unique units, the Squiggoths. Being against 5 Ork armies, we were expecting 5 or so of these things...
And these things are a bitch to take down.
But with the help from the powers that grant us blue...
So satisfying to see that, by the way... But after a few more minutes of this, it started to calm a bit... So I sent some unused units in to have a look and see what else is coming...
I definitely knew we couldn't win this
So I just sent some more blue, this time with a blue air-strike.
Now it got a bit harder... My leader died in combat on the walls, which shattered my men's morale, damage and health, causing a whole load of orks to get in a bit too close for comfort.
But we maintained our corridor... And manged to take some more screenshots... AT DIFFERENT ANGLES!
It was about this time... That someone in my house tripped on a wire that was somehow sticking out, causing a "ripple" effect which led to the falling of my router, thus disconnecting me... I was pissed off. But it was time it ended, it could only just get repetitive.
Final scores are as shown:
2495 kills in one game. Is that a record?
And it's also worth knowing that the in-game time is slower than actual time, as we had speed down on Slow (or Very slow, I dunno). The total battle was about 2 hours.
Seriously, it was fucking cool, and anyone who doesn't have this game, you should get it. Even if you're not interested in Warhammer (I used to, only really like these games now), it's worth getting. You can game with me
So yeah, that's my story of my epic battle.
...
Jealous..?
