President Bush may soon have a new reason to avoid left-leaning Vermont: In one town, activists want him subject to arrest for war crimes.A group in Brattleboro is petitioning to put an item on a town meeting agenda in March that would make Bush and Vice President Cheney subject to arrest and indictment if they visit the southeastern Vermont community."This petition is as radical as the Declaration of Independence, and it draws on that tradition in claiming a universal jurisdiction when governments fail to do what they're supposed to do," said Kurt Daims, 54, a retired machinist leading the drive.

As president, Bush has visited every state except Vermont. The town meeting, an annual exercise in which residents gather to vote on everything from fire department budgets to municipal policy, requires about 1,000 signatures to place a binding item on the agenda. The measure asks: "Shall the Selectboard instruct the Town Attorney to draft indictments against President Bush and Vice President Cheney for crimes against our Constitution, and publish said indictment for consideration by other municipalities?"

The White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment Friday. The press office did not immediately respond to an e-mail.Support for the measure is far from universal, even in Vermont, where the state Senate voted earlier this year to support impeaching the president. Anti-war rallies are regular occurrences here, and "Impeach Bush" bumper stickers are common.

Nope, that was Killington.  It wanted to become part of New Hampshire.  If you want to see something funny, look up Killington, VT on a map and see how far it is from NH.

Again, Vermont is stupid.

Killington wanted to secede?

It's a very VERY small town and it's more of a resort than anything. I go there specifically each time my dad and I take a trip up to vermont yearly. I love it there.

I see the article now, but I don't get how they'd become part of NH...

Because the US is any worse than most other countries like Russia or Iran. If the US was controlled by people like you we would all be slaves by now.

Secession referendums

Main article: Killington, Vermont secession movement

Killington's voters have twice voted to secede from Vermont and join the state of New Hampshire 25 miles to the east. The movement stems from what some residents perceive as an inequity in taxes sent to the state of Vermont, and services received. The votes are largely symbolic, as secession would require the agreement of both states' legislatures and the U.S. Congress.

Vermont's problems are that it is stuck in the 70's, too many people are smoking pot, and the state politicians' only answers to their problems are to dig into the people's pockets and raise taxes.  Oh and try to arrest the current Pres. and Vice Pres.

Isn't plotting to arrest the president and potentially overthrow the government a treason offense?  Meaning it can be punishable by death?  GG Vermont.  Now I see why everybody hates the liberals.

Oh, and the whole public nudity thing, umm, yea.  It's not all it's cracked up to be.  We're not talking 18yr old blond swimsuit models, it's more like 55 to 65 "I'm proud I haven't gotten a pacemaker yet" crowd.  All I can say is, "Just say no."

Well, atleast they still make good cheese.

And i laughed really hard at this:

Code:

Brattleboro was the home of the first person ever to receive a Social Security Benefit Check. It was issued on January 31, 1940 to Ida Fuller. Her check number was 00-000-001 and it was for $22.54. [3]

I have the old-school SuperFriends on DVD. This reminds me of the episode when the Legion of Doom puts the SuperFriends in trial.
The Legion of Doom found the SuperFriends guilty with obstruction of injustice....oh the lulz

I don't think that applies when it is a "group of activists" in the "Town of Brattleboro".
