Autoruns is a sysinternals tool to control all the windows start up items. It also provides a handy feature to search for something online that you are unsure of. It digs quite a bit deeper than msconfig. It's helped me quite a few times.

Download Autoruns (or download all sysinternals tools) and unzip them where you want. Run Tcpview.exe from wherever you unzipped it to.

Autoruns is the best tool to catch all crap that you dont need... but dont just junk things you dont know as some are needed

Under Options use 'Verify Code Signatures' and for most people use 'Hide Signed Microsoft Entries' - (then refresh) - this will stop you deleteing some of the important stuff.

Also the biggy is for laptops (on desktops you will probably still run if you delete all) .... they often have loads of little extras to make them run, with wierd names and often unsigned.... so be very carefull on laptops!

lastly, unfortunately some shit will keep adding itself (like QuickTime task)... so you'll have to keep getting rid.
