Would you buy a car that had some type of breathalizer, a device that sampled the air you expel for alcohol, to operate your vehicle?  And if your car had that technology you would also have a rate cut on your car insurance premium.

Now I'm not talking about the court approved tube you have to breath-in and wait 20 seconds, but something that, say, in unobtrusive, say in your visor or hidden that samples the air in the cabin and brings the car to a halt, safely, under power.

EDIT: Looks like Nissan is working on it:

Sure, I'd buy one to save money on insurance.  I'm not stupid enough to drink and drive.

I think a breathalyzer should be mandatory in all cars.. A lot of accidents happen because the driver has been drinking and don't pay enough attention.. In Sweden there is speed cameras everywhere, which is good, but it costs the taxpayers a lot of money. I think they should do more to stop drunk drivers because they are the real danger in the traffic.

I wouldn't mind spending half a minute with a Breathalyzer if everyone else also had those, because then I would feel much safer on the roads.

What if you need to start your car quickly?

I might do. I mean cheaper insurance is nice, but it sounds like it could be a lot of hassle.

Yeah. Exactly. What if its an emergency.
And of coarse the machine will be flawed...

"Error reading breathe, try again"
"You are intoxicated please wait 10 minutes before trying again" - EVEN WHEN YOU ARENT!!!!

It would be stupid.

Not all mouthwashes do, and the ones that do wouldn't set off a breathalyzer.

If it worked, I'd love it.

Hell yes since I do not nor ever plan to drink, but that would show in what a sad world we live in which drunken driiving is so common that we need to test people in their cars.

It's already being deployed in Sweden. The government wants to make it mandatory in all vehicles.

Yes...  if the difference in insurance premiums was significant enough to cover the added cost of the device itself in the short run.

As long as it's the good hell with good music, hot women, and great food that doesn't fatten you up then bring it on.

If it's the bad hell with all the bad people then uhh...

All I can think of now is some scene from a cheap sci fi action move (think Jurassic Park or Godzilla) where some giant and deadly beast is lumbering towards my car and I try to start it but realise that I need to blow into the breathalyser, and then wait 20 seconds...

"Come on, start, start you bastard"

*Ping* "You are over the legal blood alcohol limit. Vehicle shutting down"

"shitshitshitshitshitshitshitshit"

*RRRROOOOOOOOOAAAAARRRR*

But seriously, itd be a good idea, if not a mild inconveniece (nothing compared to the lives it would save really)
