My record is 812kb/s, I think I would get a little faster but I feel that in these speeds the problem is on the other side rather than my connection.

And don't forget that if it says bit, you have to divide by 8 to get byte, so 8 Megabit = 1Megabyte.
So a 10MBit connection would give me speeds of 1.25MB/s, right?
I dunno if we wanna switch providers though. We are on Telus right now, and the speeds are so slow

Varies by the server but I have gotten over 3 MB/s a few times but it's rare.  Normally I get around 1 MB/s which is pretty decent.

I downloaded Poe2 (1.5 GB) off torrent in 15 minutes so not too shabby.

lol at everyone totally not reading how the thread advances.

And yes, but only in theory. so basicly in optimal circumstances, you will get 1.25MB/s, more likely is 800-900k I think. Depends a bit.
And yeah I know it when speeds are slow, but if you pay like 25$ a month now, switching might not be worth it. if you pay 40/50$ already, switching would be a wise option.

depends where you download, torrents usually go slower than downloading something from internet.

160k is do-able, but pretty slow compared to what you can get. 160k is a bit more than a 1Mbit connection, but a 10Mbit connection can get speeds like 1.2MB/s in optimal situations. So it's oké for normal surfing behavior and most games, but an upgrade wouldn't hurt.

(btw I have only 200k usually, but then again, I only have to pay 10€/month).
I pay 8€ a month and get 8mbps.

We have a shaw business connection here at work (supposedly dedicated) and it sucks.  My speeds at home with telus are 2 or 3 times faster.  Shaw's mail servers also break down several times a month.

My download speed is 850kb/s - 1.25mb/s. The slowest I've seen it is around 450kb/s.

Slowest I've had would be around 0.8kb/s. Best I have had would be around 950kb/s. It depends on the server.

Is that fast?  Does having a server next to me improve that at all?

I'm pretty sure I have a 10mbit connection, but I am a noob in regards to this kind of stuff.

Erm. 10MBIT, or 10megaBYTE connection? 2 different things.
10MBIT is much slower.

Try the closest server to you, that should give you an accurate speed. The further away, the more the signal and connection deteriorates.
Looking at your connection, you have a 10MBPS connection. You just chose a far away server.
