When I play BF2 I get mild lag. Not a big deal except when you like to be in the chopper.
The system I play on is pretty good

AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3800+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.4GHz

1GB of RAM

NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GS

the sound card is onboard with the motherboard

I also have a comcast cable connection.

But I still lag even when I play on servers really close to me.

anyone know why or have any suggestions?

Which settings do you run it? With 1gb the memory is the limit of your graphic settings

With 1 gig of memory and a 6800, running graphics on high is bound to slow you up.  Put everything down that you don't need.  I'd say keep geometry higher but turn the rest down, and the lag should disappear...

I agree with that. I had a 6800XT and I used 1024x768 resolution, high geometry and 100% view distance, everything else on the lowest settings. (Now I have an 8800GTS... )

But your biggest problem is your RAM. 1 gig is not enough. I had constant lag problems when I had 1 GB and they went away when I got another gig, even with the 6800XT.

Lag is not FPS. Lag is the time it takes for data to be processed, then transferred to another PC, and processed again. It has jack shit to do with how smooth or high your FPS is.

A more complete discription of the term "lag"

But there is Connection Lag and there is video lag so the issue here seems to be video lag and I think Lowering the settings would clear the issue up for him

Yup. Lag is different from "chop" or "slowdown" but it seems that everybody still knew what he was talking about.

Turn down your video settings. That tweakguide other people posted is pretty good. Try not to turn down the geometry, keep that on high, but turn others down until it smooths out.

If you really like good video settings, then you could also invest in RAM, get yourself 2 gigs. That, however, opens the whoe 'upgrade' can of worms which would deserve its own thread.

run all your settings on the lowest possible and you should get rid of your problem.
