I have searched, and trawled through the tech forums, looking for a POLL on the best Antivirus. The other topics that have been posted have pages and pages of people stating what they think is the best AV.

I have tried to list all the most common AV's, to try to make it as fair a poll as possible.

So... I am fed up with McAfee, for the 3rd time in 2 months some registry shit for McAfee has become corrupt, and it wants me to uninstall and reinstall McAfee. I did half of what i said.... i uninstalled it.

So its basically up to you guys to tell me the best AV. If there is already a poll, please point me in the right direction and lock this one.

Used to use Norton - it blows and hogs resource

I use CA Security Centre now - 1 year free and much less of a resource whore

Not had 1 problem with it

I use one called Symantec AntiVirus.  My friend gave it to me on a flash drive (I think he torrented it) so it was free and it doesn't interrupt my gaming, and I have not had one virus since I installed it.  It updates daily too.  The only possible downside to this AV is that it does a quick scan of your computer at boot up to make sure its working ok, but it takes about 3 or 4 minutes.  My rating on this AV = 9/10

From personal experience I'd say stay away from Symantec Norton it's a system hog and completely infests the registry.  Someone I know used it once and a system file Norton needed to run was infected so he cleaned it using another app but Norton detected the change and restored the virus time and time again.  I worked as tech support last year and saw that Norton didn't detect a lot of threats.

AVG is excellent and free, never had any problems with it.  I've also heard Kaspersky & Avast are good but don't have any personal experience of them.

McAffee and Norton are crap for the money, never bother with em unless you get it for free with something.

AVG is shitter than shit, Avast pisses all over it for a free AV. F-Secure Internet Security is one of the best if your looking to; a) pay for it and b) get an entire security suite as opposed to just anti-virus.

Used AVG for a while and thaught it was ok, never got any virus warnings so i figured all was ok. Then I tried Avast and it found bollock loads of shit AVG was apparently oblivious to. Now I'm on a regular wage I pay for my security software.

Havn't used the rest, but I've been using F-Secure for nigh on 2 years now, looking at 'dubious' sites (warez, porn, more porn, warez and porn mainly), and generally just being completly ham fisted with my browsing not really avoiding any sites at all and ending up on most of the worst for chucking out viruses daily, and I've had a grand total of 0 infections, literally nothing has got past it yet.

I voted null because I've only used Norton and McAfee... they both suck and when I reformat/reinstall I'm going to try AVG or Avast. We be watching this thread.

Nod32 is supposedly the best there is right now, it's never missed one virus ever, ever, ever in the testing they do for AV stuff.
I use Norton Protection Center with their Firewall, Internet Security, Anti-Virus, Spam Blocker, etc. I know it hogs alot of resources & I even got a copy of Nod32 but haven't installed it yet because Norton does EVERYTHING. I shut it down when I'm gaming usually though. I've heard it's impossible to uninstall too if that matters to you.

Seems not many rank Nod32 first, might be because it ain't that popular - but hey, all Nod32 users out there - who cares if 'our' AV doesn't win a poll, as long as our comps stay clean and secure!

TBH I'd never heard of it and I don't know anyone who uses it.  May have to check it out if it's as good as some of you are saying.

Nod32 is technically the best.

But i prefer Kaspersky, easy to use, nice to look at, good features, and only the 2nd best!

Apparently, AVG really sucks:

But since it's free, I guess it will do.

That was version 6 .  There's been a few versions since then that are big improvements.
