OK here's my revised system: (I went with the more expensive RAM - don't tell my GF ) I looked at the i-tech.com.au website and they'll ship all of it to me for $29 so I can't complain about that.

COOLER MASTER EXTREME POWER 550W V2 REG $82
COOLER MASTER CENTURION 532 W/O PSU $79
MSI 975X Platinum PowerUp Edition Intel 975X, 1066/800/533MHz FSB, Dual DDR2, PCIE, ATX $258
INTEL CORE 2 DUO E6400/ 2.13GHz/ 2MB CACHE/ 1066FSB/ LGA775 $375
Corsair 2GB TWIN2X2048-6400C4 (2x XMS2 1GB) Twin2X PC-6400 DDR2 RAM, 2x240-pin DIMMs $503
Sapphire ATI Radeon X1950PRO 256MB, CROSSFIRE, GDDR3, PCIE, TV, DVI $335
2x Seagate ST380811AS 80GB Barracuda 7200RPM, 8MB, SATA II 3.0Gb/s, NCQ $170
Freight Charge $29
TOTAL $1,831.00 (Australian Dollars incl. GST)
Well, my parts arrived yesterday and I've put it all together

No O/S yet (big electrical storm last night so I din't want it to get zapped).

I ended up getting a couple of different things due to the ones I ordered being out of stock:

The 80Gig Seagates are discontinued so I had to get bigger drives, and then I realised the 250Gig ones were on special... so I got 2 250Gig drives = 0.5 Terabyte. I'll never use that much, but the drives should last me a while. I'm not sure if it's worth putting 2 drives that size in RAID 0...anyone???

The case went on backorder and I didn't want to wait so I changed it. I don't really like the one I got because you can't install/remove the HDDs without having to pull out either a RAM stick or the video card but on the up side, it came with a 350W PSU that I can put in my old PC (the PSU fan in that is nearly cactus).

nice rig bro!
don't forget to post the 3dmark score when you get it
I've never run a benchmark test before. I'll download the basic version because it's free.

Are there any other benchmarking programs that are worth running?

hmmm if your not putting videos or editing video or anything just use the 1 and keep the other as a backup in case that one stuffs up. more stable that way.. 250GB should be plenty.
benchmarks programs. you can download a free version of 3dmark06.. that what everyone uses. you should hit around 4800-5000, post your results when you do it:D

goodluck cospengle and nice system.

OK hear it is:

Edit: This is the basic version of 3Dmark06.

Main Test Results

3DMark Score 4907 3DMarks
SM 2.0 Score 1867 Marks
SM 3.0 Score 2086 Marks
CPU Score 1890 Marks

Detailed Test Results

Graphics Tests
1 - Return to Proxycon 14.269 FPS
2 - Firefly Forest 16.851 FPS

CPU Tests
CPU1 - Red Valley 0.597 FPS
CPU2 - Red Valley 0.958 FPS

HDR Tests
1 - Canyon Flight (SM 3.0) 19.999 FPS
2 - Deep Freeze (SM 3.0) 21.711 FPS

On the comparision there were a number of similar systems with a higher score (ie same CPU and GPU). Most seemed to be OCed, but one got a score of 5073 with the same frequencies (580MHz/702MHz) as mine.

I've heard that some people don't like the ATI drivers. I've got version 8.342.0.0 (dated 2/02/2007). Anyone know if there's a better driver somewhere?

Anyway, I'm happy with how it is now. BF2 plays so sweetly it's not funny. I'm all on high and no lag, 70 FPS most of the time. Everything looks so different. And it's so much easier to win in a shootout when you're not running at 15 FPS
