if the mobo is fried is does not mean the new video card is fried.
Did you fire it up with the RAM in incorrectly, then turn it off, then put the RAM in correctly, then turn it back on to see no signal?

lol, now u owe me karma! or i should every1 that posted!
Right enough of making fun of my noobishness please, is it defo the mobo?
And i am going to go now to apply for a job to pay for this fu*k up, back soon
Hmmm when it was forced in you must of done damage to both the RAM stick and MOBO, I think youve fucked it well and truly mate, salvage what works and get replacements, smoke and shit is a sure sing you totally 'killed' it. Does it not work either if you take out the new RAM and put everything back to the way it was? If so yea its well and truly dead, INSURANCE CLAIM FTW! I destroyed a N680i mobo yesterday and it smoked a tad to 8-)

A few questions...if you take out the new ram and put in the old does it work? Take out the old ram and put he new in alone, does it work?
Make sure everything is seated properly (wiggle everything a little while pushing to make sure). Lastly, if the box does power on, turn it off and then hold in the power button in for around 10-15 seconds. If still a nogo, then yes, that was probably the magic smoke that came out and you are out one system board.
It could also be the processor if not both the system board and the processor. I'd just start with the board though.
Good Luck

xfire is choking on high latency for me so pardon the lack of response...
if it's a nogo with the old ram then most likely it is the board, however, it could have fried the old ram...just something to try
if it's got a warranty on it, call em up and tell them that it made a weird crackling noise and you smelled smoke
mention nothing of your attempt to install the RAM
