This EA Link thing is bullshit, their attempt to imitate steam has failed miserably.

okay, now at least they give you the solution except that................................... YOU HAVE TO DO IT!.  What ever happened to customer service?  They fucked it up they should fix it.

Today when I updated to EA Link they totally removed my game.  Its like they uninstalled all of my BF games.  BF2, BF2142, SF, and the booster packs, the only thing left was the .exe icons on the desktop.  Bastards.

I feel like punching somebody.

I have it too, but it still did it to me

Registration KEY: On your box. If you register your game, it's also in your EA profile

PS: Guys keep the flaming down... Yes EA sucks... we get the point... this intended for those who needs it, not to vent your frustration.... there's plenty of post here to do that

Double clicking on the Battlefield 2142_code program does nothing for me.    The one in the Battlefield 2 folder works fine.

The above steps seems a bit much.
I only needed to reenter the CD key. But that caused a new problem
"getting kicked via PunkBuster".

Fixing that was easier, just head on over to punkbuster's site and get the
three files needed to manually update PB. "pbsec.htm, wc001280.htm and wa001365.htm"

All is better. :-)

I didn't realize this but just double clicking on that program added the registry keys described further down in the instructions, so not a bug, just errata not in the instructions.

Has everyone missed the most important bit of EA Link? Its the "spyware" code for the in-game advertising.

If you read the EULA it states that you must have the software installed to "validate your CD key" but it also states you must always have your computer connected to the Internet, that it may collect information about your computer and pass it on to third parties.

Yes, if you want to run the software you must have the advertising. Which is put BS if you ask me. Anyone feel a boycot comming on?

I think Class action lawsuit sounds better. They release shit products that people pay for and fail to fix it in a timely matter. They dont test shit obviously with all kinds of issues they had when 2142 was first released. You buy a game and are basically forced to install spyware in order to play something you buy which is crap. I am about fed up with EA and their antics. If they think they are professionals then then are professional fuck ups and should find a new line of work.

You only need to use it if you've downloaded 2142/SF/AF/EF. I'm waiting till Nov. 7, when EF/AF are in stores so that I can get around using EA Link, which sucks balls.
