Huh.
Funny.

Was thinking of picking up a Lewis Machine Tool LMT-308.
A couple at the store I buy most of my ammo at.

Perhaps that Texas AR manufacturer should change their bumper sticker to "God bless our shipping department, especially the UPS girl"

planning next build;

.260 Remington AR-10
  • Mega MATEN monolithic upper & matching lower
  • Krieger 1:8 twist SS barrel
  • Rifle gas system
  • Suppressor (brand undecided)
  • Nightforce scope
  • Magpul stock & pistol grip

Why .260 Remington?
Looking at the dimensions of the Berger 140 hybrid bullet (1.43" length, 1.23" above boattail),
plus the .260 Remington case (1.57" at base of neck),
equals 2.80" (1.23+1.57), which is exactly the design magazine COAL for .308 AR10 magazines.

It's like Brian Litz had the .260 Rem in mind when he designed the 140 Hybrid...

Secondly, .260 Rem has a 1000 yard drop/drift of 25.0/5.5 MOA and a max supersonic range of 1400
(At my atmospheric conditions, and 2750fps muzzle velocity)

Better drop/drift than a 300Win Mag, burning 2/3rds the powder, and both Norma and Lapua make brass for it.

Though.. I may have to take a closer look at the SCAR-H.
Supposedly, the barrel changeout is stupid simple.

No, you have the slab sided HK45C, not the "spiderman" grips HK45.

Doesn't count.

gotta go buy another HK pistol.

260 remington seems too mainstream for you, long-range hipster.  how 'bout an ar10 in 257 roberts.

LaRue has been pretty backed up on orders the past six months or so.

I don't mind waiting. If the OBR is anything like my Stealth, it'll be absolute quality.

There's a gun show this weekend.

I'll look out for any HK45's..

If I don't get a HK45 this weekend I'm picking up a Kimber Custom II and do a early DET 1 clone.

I'm in long gun and 1911(antique) mode.

hah.

how about if I shoot them ironically?

or out to 1500 yards with the Berger 140 hybrids?

bolt action rifle at 1000 yards is easy mode.
gas gun at 1000 is a challenging project

edit: how about 6.5x47 Lapua?

Ruger 10/22 is the AR-15 of the rimfire rifles.
Meaning, everybody and their brother's dog makes aftermarket parts for it, and it's as easy to change parts as an AR-15.
Pretty much every part (including the barrel!) is two pins or two machine screws to remove.

As a kid, I put thousands upon thousands of rounds through a Ruger 10/22.
Grasshoppers and golf balls were the two most prevalent targets.

A few projects going here. Pretty much "long guns and 1911s";
  • Old school 7mm Mag, Winchester 70.  Was a gift. Fighting the temptation to put a McMillan A4 & CDI bottom metal (AICS mags) on it. Trying to remember to keep it "traditional".
  • Debating picking up a .45 pistol (HK45 w/ threaded barrel, or 1911 clone), or a Benelli M4 12ga semi auto shotgun.  If it needs holes put in it at short range, the 12ga is arguably more "sincere".
  • AR-10 in a 6.5mm chambering.  Still deciding on what parts to use.
  • Long rifle: thinking 300 Norma, Surgeon action, AICS stock w/ Viperskins panels, Krieger barrel (28"), etc
  • A couple of suppressors: one for pistol, one for .30 cal rifle. A .30 cal rifle suppressor would work fine for both the 6.5mm gas gun, and the .30 long rifle.

The .45 or 12ga is NOT for "home defense".  More for hiking in the hills, or as an in-hand weapon while hunting. Bears and mountain lions can be an immediate close-range problem where I hunt. And a long range bolt action is NOT a close quarters weapon.  Better to keep the long rifle in an Eberlestock pack, and a shotgun on a sling at your front, or a .45 at your side.

Small town southern Montana, there's really not much home invasion going on here.  Every home is armed, so the burglars know there are better ways to commit suicide than trying to break into houses here, when most of the houses are likely to have trigger happy rednecks behind the doors.  And the houses that don't have a trigger happy redneck, probably have a really jumpy Army veteran and her husband.

Edit: And coyotes.  Start calling them in, and the sneaky little bastards might show up behind you at "my, what large teeth you have" range. Good idea to have a shotgun at hand.

Heh.

I would make for a very large, very lesbian, very ugly woman.

it's a pretty typical rural gunshop, plenty of shotguns and tweed. probably won't get it, but the pays quite good (it caters to the blueblood basically) and it would be interesting to spend a few years at. might even get myself a cheap gun club membership

I saw those right before I came back.

Hopefully they'll start pumping out some OBRs.

Went to the gun show today. I know I said HK45 or 1911, but a HK P7 might come home with me tomorrow.

Most likely will not be modifying, what types of things would typically be swapped out?  Today shot a buddy's Remington Sportster Model 552 given to him by his grandpa.  15 shot tubular, semi-auto and I liked it very much.  My 8 year old son put about 100 rounds through it and took to it easily using iron sights.  Looked the up online and they're a bit more pricey than 10/22 or Model 60.
