Okay,

I just want to know from the experienced BF2'ers which of the following is the best, and therefore the one I should use.

All settings are HIGH.

1024x768@120hz - 67 fps

1280x1024@85hz - 72 fps

1600x1200@75hz - 60 fps

Any thoughts?

More frames per second is better, therefore 1280x1024@85hz - 72 fps. But you could lower your refresh rate, because BF2 with your settings doesn't deliver 85 fps or more.

P.S. Wrong Forum

Thanks for that

So if BF2 doesn't deliver 85 fps or 85 Hz?

What would it deliver then?

(Doh, about the forum)(Could a mod please move this to the correct forum, sorry)

You wrote it down, BF2 delivers with 1280x1024 a FPS of 72. You could decrease your monitor refresh rate to 72 then.

Most game sforce your refresh down to 60 anyway. I doubt bf2 is any different. Anybody know for sure? (Some monitors you can hit the menu and it will tell you what res/refresh it's at).

I run everything on low at 1280x1024x75Hz...  fraps usually shows a figure in the high 90's in the corner.

V-Sync is a method of creating an artificial barrier to redraw rate, effectively capping at the refresh rate of the monitor.  I don't believe it's switched on in BF2, or I should not see a fraps score which exceeds the monitor refresh rate.

Anyway, my advice is to make sure that you get a fps that exceeds your refresh rate, and don't just look at fps whilst staring a wall, get into a helo-battle or heavy firefight on a 64 player server and keep an eye on the fps.

edit:  And if you've got a TFT I'd run it at the native res... looks much crisper and helps with aiming at small targets, IMO.

Thanks guys.

I dropped the Hz down to 75, on 1280x1024 and getting a FPS about 100+ on a full 64 player game.

I'm using a 21" CRT so its still nice and crisp.

I run before at 1600x1200 at 100hertz on a 21" monitor.

I stick to my desktop resolution, so 1600x1200x85Hz on my 19" CRT.

Higher resolution = looks better (less pixelated)

Higher refresh rates are better.  If your FPS went up when you lowered the refresh rate then you need to turn on tripple buffering.
