Anyone reckon they can match this?  39 kills, 0 deaths with the L96A1 (or the 900 yard wondershot)

Nice find, i've done 39 / 0 with the l96a1 but I think the 900 yard shot is nigh on impossible in this game going on that the record [set by dbss] is currently at approximately 560m

What the fuck asshole. If you don't have anything posative to contribute stfu. Yea i liked the part about aiming so many yards to the right and high to account for the bullet drop.

"In 2003 Royal Marines sniper Corporal Matt Hughes killed an Iraqi gunman from 900 yards with a “wonder shot” in which he aimed 56ft to the left and 35ft high to allow for wind.

The bullet’s trajectory was calculated by his spotter after he studied the movement of dust in the breeze."

It's insane.  That's what I reckon.  I wonder what they said to each other right before he took the shot.

Imagine putting your head behind a sniper rifle going off... you'd get knocked out by the recoil ^^

Lots of skill combined with some luck.

My father was a police tactical sniper (hence the name), and my best friend has a sniper squad in his platoon he is in charge of in the Army.  The amount of hours for practice those snipers put in on civilian and military is just ungodly.

They have to know there weapons more intimately than virtually any other person in the world.  A sniper won't take a shot unless they are certain where that bullet will land.  One miss could mean a lot of lives in danger.

That is an impressive record.  It looks like he might break some of the Vietnam records.  I am sure about 10 years after this is all over, some of these guys will do some instructive books and lectures on their experiences.  Snipercraft  in real life is an ever evolving tool for military and police.

Nice post.

Id say that is a trained sniper/scout team, with a tad of luck, but they are trained for that stuff, so Im saying it was skill lol

Skill.

Shots like that are required to pass sniper school.

I went to quantico and watched the 1000 yard interservice rifle championships one year. The marine  who won put a group of ten rounds in a ten inch circle at 1000yards in pretty bad cross winds with a standard issue sniper rifle.

If you read the chapter on ballistics of the US Army Sniper Field Manual - it's insane what they consider before taking the shot.Height,humidity,wind,etc...

For that much wind? Any good shot should tell you: a little of the first and a lot of the second. Just knowing where to aim to get the bullet to land on target is most of it; the rifle and ammo take care of the bulk of the remainder; how to squeeeeze off the shot is most of what's left and luck accounts for the last little bit.

Well it depends on the head, don't it? Meatloaf once won a bet he wouldn't let a VW van drive over his!

Seriously though, though the kick from a powerful round is quite fierce a punch can exert more force. See post #42 on this page:

Wouldn't it be cool if we could have realism settings on server. the higher the setting, the more complicated things get and the more skill you need.

I wish some of you guys would have had the experience of facing somebody eye to eye, who really killed another soldier with a sniper rifle. Who really saw the head of another human being exploding in their scope.

I bet you would talk a bit differently and less lightheaded about something serious like this. Something I will never forget when I made that experience. I never saw human eyes with that much coldness and death in them.

Normally I don´t add stuff like this here, but this thread is based on a true story.

Sorry for spoiling your fun.

No, not first hand, one of my friends is a scout in a cavalry unit, US Army. And he did the sniper job because the original assigned sniper in his unit was killed. He was a totally different person, when he came back from Iraq. Like I said, I never saw eyes with some much coldness in them.
Scary as hell.
