(topic mainly for Hellogoodsir and his letter)

There are 3 maps that come with the booster pack, Euro Force.
These are:

Operation Smoke Screen (EU vs MEC)
Taraba Quarry (EU vs MEC)
Great Wall (EU vs PLA)

Each map has 16 and 32 player sizes, yet no 64 size. However, the 32sizes provide more than enough room, vehicles and tickets for 64 player battles. They just chose not to make 3 different sizes of these maps for whatever reason.

Right, onto the maps and vehicles themselves.
I have made a note of the maps and their actual vehicle counts, not including ground defense (TOW's, Stingers and MG's).

Whilst doing these, I came across a strange occurance. I got the map overviews and vehicle layouts by loading up single player. However, upon looking at Great Wall, it looked back to front. The EU main base and parachute starts were on the right of the map with all flags under PLA control...yet when I had played the map online, they started on the left of the map and included 1 CP that started the game as neutral?!
I have found out, that on the 16 player sizes of both Great Wall and Taraba Quarry, there appear to be 2 different 16player versions depending on whether you are playing Single Player or Multiplayer!
This becomes evident as this "guide" goes on, on both of these maps. Yet Smoke Screen, appears to be exactly the same on the 16player size regardless of whether its in SP or MP.
(is this the same with the vanilla/SF/AF maps? I havent noticed it...)

thanks for the info, and i wonder why there is a Mobile AA on the 16 player version :S. Great guide

No probs...and thanks for the karma
The AA is probs because in the 32player version of Great Wall, there are 2 helipads which are out of bounds (1 south of the Chinese uncap and 1 north of the EU uncap) which they never removed. They probs forgot to take out the AA as well.
Either that, or to shoot down the EU parachutists, which sounds more fun

Snake: Great Work

"Quan Fortress
(cant remember - and theres no active servers with enough people on to start a round to find out. I believe, its 1 DPV and 1 HMMWV)

Quan Compound
(cant remember - and theres no active servers with enough people on to start a round to find out. I believe, its 1 APC, 1 DPV and 1 HMMWV)"

I think it's 1 DPV and 1 HUMMVEE at both Quan Fortress and Quan Compound.

Nice work Snake! Thank you, this is most helpful. I really don't understand why the single player versions should be different than the online versions. I see a few errors, and I can help a little.

The Challenger 2 isn't in Great Wall, all Leapord tanks.

You're right about the Quan Fortress. It spawns a HUMVEE, DPV, or PLA equivalent. Same with the Quan Compound, except there is another DPV/FAV that is in the same area as the Compound Gate Village flag, which is the 16-player version.

The mobile AA is the PGZ-95, which is basically like the Tunguska but without that dome blocking the view. When I used to play on 101st, they had 64 players on the 16-player version of Great Wall. It was nuts! The PLA AA was useful for taking out some incoming EU paratroopers, but the games hit detection was so bad, it didn't massacre EU troops. Transports did a lot more killing. So yea, once the EU took control over the Fortress Village, a PGZ-95 would spawn a few minutes later. You would think they would have a linebacker, but no, they get a PLA vehicle.

It was good fun though. Rounds were short, and the highest score would have been around 60, with a few people in the 50s and 40s. That map would have been insanely fun if there were about 50% more tickets. Only problem were nade spammers and gaymores, but you can't go anywhere else and not have that problem.

I played Taraba Quarry 16 player on single player, and that was really fun. I played Smoke Screen 16 player online and yea that was different. Anyways, when I get my PC up and this lettet sent, we need to find a willing server to play 16 player maps.

Cheers fellas

When I load up Great Wall, theres a C2 and an L2A6....are you sure you remember that correctly?!?!

As for the AA, yeah, thats a good point. It is the PGZ-95. Didnt think about that one

With the 2 inner CP's, yes, you are both right with it being just the DPV and HMMVW. Where the hell did I get the APC from?!?! Ill update the post now

As for the 16player great wall on that 101 server...holy crap, that was SO much fun! It was awesome. Despite my bad pings on there
I remember having like 8 rounds on there, and on my stats, it said I had played 8 rounds of great wall in like 45mins

On the multiplayer version, I'm sure. It would be cool to see the C2 with a woodland skin though. Hey those LAV-25s on Taraba, do they have the same desert skin like the rest of the EU vehicles? The desert skin on the EU vehicles looks very browns, not desert like, which is cool.

That last smiley makes me laugh.

I played on Jolt Uk and I was getting 250-300 ping. I coudln't use the TV missile at all

Hmm, I think they have that green camo. But I'm really not sure, no one seems to use them on Taraba.

This is the EU's APC on the smaller versions of Taraba:

https://www.sfsteam.co.uk/Snakes_Screenies/BF2/APC.jpg

(yes, I play with the lowest settings because my monitor is about 10 years old Soon to be replaced )

Also, dont know whether you picked it up or not, but on the 16player MP version of Taraba, there is, at one of the CP's, a desert camo Hummer and also the jungle camo hummer.... (at the engineering compound)

No wonder people think that this booster was "rushed and incomplete"

Well that answers my question. And I do remember that Snake. Very odd...

Are you still seeing C2s on the Great Wall map? Did you try getting back in a multiplayer server?

Lol...I did actually. 2 L2A6's as you said

400 tickets on 32 player? Is that the standard number for a ranked server or is your local settings?

....sigh.

EDIT: Oh shit...see what you mean /blush

That was through creating a local multiplayer server on coop - and yes, I have got it adjusted.

Update.

That Desert Humvee you speak of is right here.
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c42/P … een056.jpg

I talked about some changes to Smoke Screen in my letter, and it probably hard for people to visiualize, so I took some screen shots.

At Hill Shed, looking towards the wall around Windfarm to the East.
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c42/P … een057.jpg

Aeriel view from the Havok.
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c42/P … een058.jpg

Model I'd like to see in the wall so infantry can climb the wall.
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c42/P … een017.jpg

On the cliff the wall surrounded, looking at a bretch in the fence (after using the hypothetical stairs).
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c42/P … een059.jpg

After going through the hole in the fence, infantry can run between the transformers and fence.
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c42/P … een060.jpg

Infantry can cap the flag at the this location, with concrete slabs extruding out from the transformers for cover. I can see a lot of AT units and medics back there.
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c42/P … een061.jpg

So there you have it. Good, bad, meh?

So now on to Taraba, both 32, and 16; single, and multiplayer.

Here is a pic of the stanard chocolate camo for the EU HUMVEE, and the USMC desert HUMVEE on 16 player. The desert one spawns in that shed, but I moved it for the shot.
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c42/P … een056.jpg

Ok here is the infamous bridge of death on Taraba. The eastern side is compromised of the dam, while the western side is just earth. This is where the tunnel idea comes into mind.
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c42/P … een000.jpg

This shot is near that useless bunker near the start of the bridge. At this cliff, you can see the northern face of the dam. A tunnel somewhere in it, or directly under the bridge might be cool. Look on though and see if anything fits into place.
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c42/P … een001.jpg

So as I walked across the bridge to the very middle, and looked north-bound towards the Quarry Dig, you see another useless couples of buildings.
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c42/P … een002.jpg

I investigated what purpose this may have, and it looks exactly like a flag setting in Kubra dam (don't have SS). Also on Fushe Pass with 16 players. May be others, so look around.
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c42/P … een003.jpg

A ladder! Go down it.
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c42/P … een004.jpg

At the bottom of the ladder. Already some tunnel work.
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c42/P … een006.jpg

Now face north and you'll see the Quarry Dig. See this elusive AA site? Didn't notice it till yesterday.
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c42/P … een007.jpg

Just another view of the dam from the AA site. Can anyone see a tunnel going through it?
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c42/P … een008.jpg

Now about Taraba not having enough flags. Here are some spots that are used in the 16 player version, but should still be included.

Here is one.
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c42/P … een009.jpg

Another one.
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c42/P … een010.jpg

This one is in the out of bounds. It would be cool if you extended the out of bounds far enough just to let infantry slip though that slot in the fence. Vehicles couldn't go around unless they wanted to die from the out of bounds. Could be cool infantry fighting. It's on the EU side of the map.
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c42/P … een011.jpg

This one is also in the out of bounds. It's on the MEC side of the map.
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c42/P … een012.jpg

I couldn't find any good spots on the MEC side to provide a good flag location. It's all hilly or barren. This one is near some plae crashes, which could serve as a flag with some modding. The MEC side is boring is all I'm saying.
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c42/P … een013.jpg

I didn't put these in [IMG] tags for a few reasons, but enjoy.

Damn! Wish I could support those graphics in multiplayer...
With my current FPS that is.

Taraba...that elusive AA site. LOL I never even knew of it either. I didnt even know that building had a ladder going down...
That building set also appears on Clean Sweep at the furthest forward MEC flag (forget its name now).
Ive NEVER been on foot on that map, I always get in a tank or AA. Failing that...jihad jeeping Occasionally a jeep with an AT team hopping out to knock out some tanks.

As for the additional flags, maybe one or two more. But tbh, the map needs more than 1 way across to the other side of the river. Currently, its the bridge and the quarry dig...of which no mountable force will get through there past the other teams CP.
The problems with the map, lie in both a lack of CP's (I reckon 1 more either side in the first 2 locs you posted) and an additional way across the river...not just a measly dam. Maybe a few footbridges that only Infantry can go on?

Its also very linear...i.e. move forwards and sit at the dam. Thats it. People say that Road Rage is linear...well, nothing compared to Taraba. There is only 1 way across and it is at the far top of the map - either the bridge or around the bottom - both of which, are nigh on impossible to get across if you are on the losing team.

Smoke, I agree with having some form of infantry "staircase" up on the wall. Would make infantry incursions on the map between the Hill Shed and Wind Farm (if they are both in each others hands) a lot more fun and interesting.
Currently, it just involves a DPV trying to get in around the back fence.

Oh yeah, and I hit SgtMjr on Smoke today

It's great Hellogoodsir.  +1

Congrats Snake, +1 for you too (EDIT, damn couldn't karma you again, I'll do it tomorrow^^)

About that AA, I've noticed it but I didn't know how to reach it. A flag would be great to have there, like them in Kubra Dam, Clean Sweep and Fushe Pass. (as you two said)

Maybe boats or choppers too cross the river? And a tunnel or something would be nice.

My card is a 7800 GS. For some reason, it looks like it renders medium settings even though it says high. Things just look a little fuzzy and stuff... maybe it's the card? Older one was a 6800 Ultra, but maybe it just rendered the game better.

So yea, just looking at Taraba, it is just overall suck. It's flatness is cool and stuff, but it's just bad news when you have two bombers, and even attack jets can be nasty (Smoke Screen). The idea behind the map was awesome, as well as the EF skin. It's the only map were it's chocolate colored, rather than dry and bright like the other MEC maps.

So point wise, if the rounds ended up with 50% more points on average for players, and ended quicker, would people flock to the boosters? It's a few reasons people play SF over vanilla. Anyways, it would be cool if you could play vanilla maps with vanilla settings (no grapping hook, tear gas, etc.) on SF servers. Vanilla folks couldn't play unless they had SF, which requires you to be in SF but it counts as vanilla. It's confusing, but the server shows up as SF, and you are logged in as SF but a SF server can play vanilla maps because only people loading up on SF can play on that server, so no non-sf people can't join. It might be an option to let non-SF people join, but it would be like the boosters and kick people.

The concept doesn't seem like a lot of work, but who knows how much ten thousand lines of code Dice will have to edit to make that happen.

And thanks for the Karma. Got 3 today (well, yesterday, but I stayed up). Anyways, the 100th one was kinda mean... lol.

So anyways, I downloaded the BF2 editor, and wow... I do not know how to use it. I'm wondering if it's my problem, because I see nothingness and it's like there is no tools to make anything. When it load ups, it loads all these BF2 files and it says there are a bunch of errors in red, or file couldn't be found, which doesn't make sense because I know their on my HD. The editor is in beta, and I'm not surprised if the program itself is just a huge obstacle modders have to deal with.

So yea... I'm tinkering with it to see if I could have some potential to make something out of it. I do however am learning up on Pro Desktop, which is easy to use. If I can't make maps, I might make 3d models.

It's exactly the same for me with the editor.
