I have been having issues with BF2 every since I owned it. It seems that once a week \ ,or two weeks, my game crashes. The game loads but it does not let me join multiplayer games. When I attempt to join any multi player server it crashes. I can only join single player. The only way I can fix this issue is to uninstall and reinstall and then everything is ok. Talk about a pain. Please help!
try installing the full patch instead of incremental, hope it helps.
I've had the same problem and this happened BEFORE 1.3 came out. I uninstalled it, decided to wait for 1.3 to come out, it did, had high hopes of playing it again, spent the last 2 hours installing BF2 because the patching part takes the longest damn time to do... started it up, got single player to work and I was happy there, decided to go online and do some damage, EAGER at that, a game loads up, I hit Join Game... instantaneously I'm back on my desktop and BF2 just quit on me.
What gives?
What gives?
I have the full patches of 1.2 and 1.3 saved on my pc because i always had to re-install the gaem and then re-install the patchenitre patch. I went to EA but i dont remember finding a solution.
Ugh, I don't get it, cuz I had already uninstalled it, reinstalled it, put in SF, got the Full 1.3 patch, got that in, was working up till Singleplayer, hit Multiplayer, clicked Join Game and the game just quits out. Had hopes of getting back into the BF2 but no luck as of yet
Hey guys, this issue is related to your video and/or monitor. When you load a map and then it crashes before you even get in, it may be caused by the low/med/high settings and you may need to tweek them. The most likey cause however, is the screen resolution and framerate. I can't tell you what settings you need to use but at least you know what the root problem is so you have the opportunity to get a solution. I would reccomend that you verify the screen resolution and framerate for the game settings are the same as your Windows settings on your desktop. And make sure if you have an Nvidia graphics card that you update it with the drivers the BF2 cd gives you at the splash screen when you put the disk in the drive.
Are you serious?! I mean I recently updated my ATI graphics card drivers... and I THINK it was about the same time it started but if that's the case UGH!!! That's retarded! Why would it affect Multiplayer directly though? Like DirectFire and I stated, we can play Single fine up until we decide to go on Multi and shit just happens.
No doubt this issue is directly related to the patch or so many people wouldn't suddenly have this problem. I don't know what all was with this patch in code but it may very well have created a higher requirement on video cards and/or RAM. This is a given when they patch this game that some requirements will change. I believe in patch 1.2 there was a crash problem for some ATI users. EA had to quickly distribute a hotfix for those users.Aardcore wrote:

There's a number of possibilities here. My opinion is only after the fact that the patch was installed correctly which the above poster says it was. I've heard that pressing escape key after clicking join game alleviates the problem for some but that wouldn't make sense if only a few people are having the problem. It's also a possibility, thinking of the browser problem that some are having and other aren't, that there was a problem with downloading the patch for them. Downloading it elsewhere may be a solution. I've never had a crash and I've never had a browser problem with this patch. The in-game IP shows up for me but for some others it doesn't. If I sent you my PC I guarantee you will be able to play BF2 with no problem. So on that note, my opinion is that the system requirements have changed and most of us aren;t affected.
Of all the problems past users had with the game crashing at join game was directly due to inadequate video memory resources or improper video settings
Multiplayer requires more memory than singleplayer. If you are able to play single player, then it's not your resolution. It's more likely your resources. The amount of memory you have can directly effect your video card performance. In other words, if you have a basic video card that's just good enough for BF2 and usually have to play on LOW settings, installing over 2 Gigs of RAM can allow you to play with video settings on MED/HIGH.
During the time when you are verifying client data is when the memory requirement is really needed. Directly after that you are given "Join Game". The memory load is then dumped. if you have just enough resources to play before the patch, it's a possibilty that your OS is crashing the game because the memory load is too much for it. This is possible for anyone with either 1GB or less of RAM or a 128MB video card. The only temp solution would be to ensure you have no other programs running like Fraps or Xfire and lower your video settings in-game. There is also an option in the task manager for XP users to reserve resources for specific programs. Open the task manager, right click on "BF2.exe", click "Set Priority", click" High".
Now if there is nothing you can do about it on your end, then I suggest submitting a problem ticket to EA. I'm sure a hotfix would come out quickly simply because of the numerous crash problems that servers are having around the world. EA would have their contract team, Digital Studios or whomever did the patch, set this to a high priorty. So don't fret. If you can't fix it, submit a ticket to EA and wait for a word about a hotfix.
Oh, and you can never have too much RAM!

If you believe the updated video driver is the cause, try rolling it back. If a roll back doesn't work, then uninstall it and then install the basic driver first, tests it and then update with the new driver. And for some reason some users have had to repatch after updating their video driver. Can't figure that one out.Aardcore wrote:

I'll have to try some of those things out, if not, it's off to EA/DICE to complain and ask them what's going on, thanks much.
