I was rather surprised the US leaders got any flak for not going. If Barack did go, I'm sure he'd get criticized for butting in to something that doesn't concern him.

The security situation is difficult enough, having a 100 car convoy land in Paris right now would be a nightmare.
Strange that most other heads of state can walk the streets without too much trouble, although Netanyahu grinning ear to ear seemed out of place.
I'm not sure what to think really, people do have the inalienable right to stick their hands into hornets nests if they so choose. The Charlie Hebdo people seemed to pretty well focus on muslims, its shouldn't really have come as a shock to them. Whether canonising them now is the right thing to do seems doubtful.

If the French, German, British, and American public not blinked and we had overthrown Assad after the sarin attack, this Syrian cancer wouldn't have left the middle east. Now we are paying the price for our cowardice.
This isn't a specifically Syrian problem, the whole region has been destabilised and turned into a cauldron - as was the plan.
Deposing a brutal sectarian Sunni and replacing him with a brutal sectarian Shia in Iraq was hardly a genius move, as I understand it the real planning and strategic know-how of ISIS is thanks to unemployed senior ex-Baathists. Dispanding the Iraqi army was another idiot moment.
Or were they? The plan was to destabilise the major powers which could pose a threat to Israel - it seems every objective has been achieved except for Iran. The current oil price war should see to that, if living conditions fall low enough there could be another revolution. Sanctions against Russia are a neat fig-leaf.

Well I guess imo, "terrorism" can be political/religious, but it can also be not so.
Someone can go around "terrorizing" a neighborhood with or without killing people and have him just be crazy.
You can take my above example (in my last post, not this one), and categorize it as terrorism, then further classify it as a murder spree. I think you can do the same for political "terror" the same way.
