I want to dabble in some web design and I wanna know what you think is an easy web designer to use. Looking for something that's easy enough to pick up.

Cheers.

Dreamweaver if you wanna go batshit insane. Notepad++ for free open source goodness (not made specifically for webdesign it just gives you the benefit of colour coding imo). Check the sticky in the programming thread I think several people mention some good editors.

I've used Dreamweaver the very few times I've done anything like this, works great.

There is a fine difference between web design and web coding. I use Photoshop and Dreamweaver.
dreamweaver was pretty easy to learn and it works.

Software doesn't matter much until you've learnt all the basics [of HTML and CSS]. Syntax highlighting is generally pretty handy, though.

I used to be the same, now I just use the code editor in Opera, I have little use for a big ass program like Dreamweaver and the code editor in Opera works quite nicely (open page you want to edit and hit ctrl+u, it opens the source code in a new tab so you can edit it, apply it and switch back and forth to see what it looks like, all you need for the basics really).  Oh Opera has an 'inspect element' thingy that'll show you all the bits of code that affect what you highlight and all the various files that code is in.

Like this:

Makes finding fucked up code a little easier.

Argh sorry I was frustrated by Imageshacks terrible user interface. No, I don't want a stupid border around it. No I don't want your zoom tool. I want to see the image. Nothing more. 100%. Go away Imageshack.

RAGH.

For those that don't know, Firebug allows for code inspection like in Opera.
