Morning fellers,

Was thinking about upgrading the ram in my lappy. It's reallllllly slow, so I cleared some of the junk off it, freed up a bit of space, and ran CCleaner, still performing pretty slow, come to think of it, it's always been slow.

I'm considering wacking another 3GB inside it to see if that'll kick the arse out of it and give it some speed.

Specs:

Compaq Presario CQ60
2.1Ghz AMD Sempron
1GB Ram
nVidia 8200M G
160GB HDD.
Windows 7 Ultimate

Reckon 3 more GB will be enough to get it flying?

Sticking another CPU in it would work better, but yeah you'll notice the difference.

The question is whether or not the motherboard will even support that much RAM. I imagine that you're running 64 bit Windows on there?

Why the heck would you get 3GB more? Just get one GB to make it 2GB and it will be just great.

I have 2GB with P8400 C2D on my Lenovo, rest of your laptop specs hardly beg for 4GB.

If I can afford it shouldn't I just get 3gb instead of jsut 1?

add another gig. Does it even support that many sticks?

Yeah, pretty sure it does.
Most likely it only has 2 RAM slots for a max of 4 gig (2x2) which would mean buying 2 sticks to get 4 gig.  Really though I'd guess anything over 2 would be mostly a waste on a laptop with those specs (I doubt you do much on it by the rest of the specs)

There is nothing that laptop can handle and would require 4GB ram.

upgrading to 4GB on low end laptop would be huge waste of money.

It is not  waste of money, my laptop has 1gb of ram. I need to use it for Visual Studio in college some days. Runnin Opera and W7 right now it's using ~800mb of ram.

Is it just me, or is this thread eight months old?
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
